Due to the boring title of this I doubt it'll get many replies, but can anyone recommend any musically diverse european festivals they've been too?

and by diverse, I mean with metal aswell as singer-songwriters and DJ's and stuff.

Dour?

You'll have to wait until next year though.

That's good

I was planning to :)
I'll check it out.

The reason I'm looking is because I want to go to the same festival as all my best mates, but they all exclusively like metal, and I only like a few metal bands and mostly other stuff.

Just looked on the site

I'm looking for something with a bit bigger names to tempt my mates to go that far.

lowlands

in holland its sold out but i'm sure you could get a ticket on ebay or something!

Tell them to go to...

Nightmare Before Xmas - ATP.

The Melvins and Mike Patton are choosing the bands.

Its gonna be well heavy!! AND VERY VERY GOOD.

Oh did i menation its held at Pontins Holiday Site too!!
Booyah!!

Check here for the lineup so far -

yes

Pukkelpop

Went last year. Had amazing time. Going again this year. Better line-up than any other main UK festival and a lot cheaper too.

I'm there too!

Cheap as anything and the line-up is as diverse and better than any of the big festivals we have here... So basically what leighton already said!

poor lineup this year

minus Flaming Lips and Sigur Ros of course

Wrong.

Cold War Kids, Iron & Wine, The Dresden Dolls, Mercury Rev, The National,
Girls In Hawaii, Tokyo Police Club, Two Gallants, M83, Holy Fuck, British Sea Power, Caribou, Menomena... I could go on, but to me, that's awesome.

Supersonic is the best in the UK for this

though you've just missed it. It's certainly the only festival I've been to that puts on doom, drone, noise, electronic stuff, indie and folk.

Some ATPs can be good for this depending on curator but they do tend to favour indie ponces a bit. Still amazing though.

i was suprised by

the diversity of sonar, for metal i've seen maruosa there, for singer-songwriters david grubbs and dj flying lotus.

I was

going to suggest Sonar, but it seems a bit too niche and beat-orientated for what the OP is after.

The day festival is great if you're into experimental guitar stuff (I saw Yellow Swans & Pram this year, Sunn O))) and Wolf Eyes played last) or more esoteric/chilled dance. The night is pretty much pure amazing dancedancedance with the occasional curveball.

Primavera maybe? It seems to be pretty much ATP without the chalets and a better lineup.

Sziget

in Hungary is supposed to be really eclectic.

I haven't been though, I might go next year.

The line-up for Sziget is looking a bit "meh..." this year.

My housemate is going and isn't best pleased that she bought a ticket now.

Bennicassim

In Spain, like a beach holiday and a festival rolled into one.

Roskilde

This year you had your Slayer, Judas Priest, At The Gates, Benga, Extra Golden, Sunburned Hand Of The Man soundtracking films, the 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit' guy, Bonnie Prince Billy, Solomon Burke etc etc etc. Really good!

ZXZW

Check out ZXZW, with metal, singer songwriters, jazz, lots of breakcore and more.

primavera

has the most diverse (and best) lineups i've ever come across. and it's cheap, and in barcelona. you can't go wrong, really.

Eurrrrrooooccckkkeennnees

Most diverse festival in my opinion. Every year they have decent amounts of hip-hop, reggae, metal, dub and homegrown talent on top of the standard indie fare.

Food is cheap too...and set on a lake which is cool.

ZXZW

ZXZW is only 25 euro for the weekend. And lots and lots of bands.
