Videogame music.

Done before, but I wanted to bring your attention to this:

http://thebrawl.net/soundtrack/

304 amazing Nintendo themes as included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. This has truly made my day :') - the soundtrack on that game is what edges it into being a classic. You can download them too, but I'm waiting to find a zip folder of the whole thing.

here are my top ten from it:

1. Type A (Tetris)
2. Porky's theme (Mother)
3. Ocarina's melody (LoZ: Ocarina)
4. Green Hill Zone(Sonic The Hedgehog)
5. Super Smash. Bros. Brawl Theme
6. Love Theme (Metal Gear Solid)
7. Gerudo Valley (LoZ: Ocarina)
8. Hyrule Field (LoZ: Ocarina)
9. Bob-bomb battlefield (Super Mario 64)
10. Rainbow Road (Mario Kart)

what are your favourite videogame soundtracks and themes in particular?

what are your favourite videogame soundtracks and themes in particular?

    • Mmm

      ROAD RASH.

    • Zelda games in particular

tend to have quite memorable themes.

Other than that Red Alert is one that stands out.

    • Streets of Rage 2

Forget the composer's name right now. But it's ace.

    • me and a friend were planning on doing an acoustic album

of all the levels from sonic 2. Sort of gypsy jazz feel. We "interpretted" green hill zone, marble zone, metropolis zone, and something from the two player section.

      Should we do it?

      • No.

Gypsy jazz? Acoustic? Sounds like aids.
Getting massive amps, loads of distortion pedals and downtuned guitars, and a rabid drummer. Much better and less lame.

        • The Advantage

          • Genius.

            Great band.

        • I have massive amps and drums etc

but sometimes you would rather have a nice bowl of ice cream than insert a freezer up your backside.

          • But what if the ice cream doesn't taste of anything?

            • It wont taste of anything

if you have just been drinking tonnes of cheap wine and chomping down on pepperarmi, but if you've just come in form the fresh mountain air you would be far more appreciative if you drift my catch.

    • Doom 2.

Carmageddon 1 & 2. (The first is an instrumental Fear Factory album!)
      Dungeon Keeper 1.

      • My fave Doom music

is from the first level of the shareware version!

        • is that the one that sounds

quite alot like metallica master of puppets? the only riff ever to be designed specifically for people with only one arm and one finger to play

        • <3

There's some really cool sounds on 'Dead Simple' from Doom 2, which sounds like a stylophone in overdrive!

    • I think they get alot of stick

But I bloody love the music from the final fantasy games.

      • why on earth would they get alot of stick?

any fool and his dog knows they are great!

    • I love you for posting that link

      <3

    • skate or die

      Rob Hubbard!!!!!!!!!!

    • secret of mana

:) I love that one I downloaded it a while back and even put some of the tunes in a mix with NiN tracks and alsorts

    • I tried this thread week ago and it sank like a rock

I hope this one doesn't cause I love video game music.

      Star Fox 64

Zelda: Link To The Past, well all the Zelda

I adore the "sound" of Resident Evil (the gamecube remake, which I now play on Wii)

But TheWildSon has zeroed in on sum specifics- wish I had time for that.

    • ...

The tunes to Dynamite Headdy are well classic. I can still hum them now, 14-odd years on.

      • Streets Of Rage II

on MegaDrive is my all time favourite

        • ...

Ah, memories. That game taught me that rave music always = violence.

    • final fantasy 7 cant be beaten i think

      cosmo canyon
      1 winged angel
      jenova
      shinra theme
      tifa theme
theyre all up there with the best

      • Yep

It's amazing, it's the music I use for long car journeys. Makes it seem like an adventure.

        • Lol

Awesome! I love most of the Final Fantasy stuff (particularly VII, VIII and X) and the Silent Hill stuff is atmospheric, great in the dark..

    • Wonder Boy!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=J323JguGX9s - this is one of my favourites.

    • The king of Megadrive sound tracks

      are
      Streets of Rage
      Sonic 2&3
      Outrun
      Lemmings.

      That is all.

      • Sonic 2 I remember as being quite 90s

and Lemmings on an old windows pc with a dodgy early soundblaster thing!

    • fairy theme

      from zelda ocarina of time.

    • Are modern games aloud?

the score for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is absolutly amazing.

      Harry Gregson-Williams is my hero.

    • NARCTRAX

Duo from Tokyo who have done a bunch of remixes (including one on HEALTH - DISCO) and are absolutely incredible sounding, fit perfectly into this thread. There's a bunch of remixes available to download on their myspace, and some original material too. I implore you to check them out. Hopefully they'll release something and not just fade into obscurity, because this shit is awesome awesome awesome!

    • All the music from megaman

      it's quintessential videogame music

megaman 2 is best if I remember

    • I like Nobuo Uematsu's

soundtracks for the Final Fantasy series - especially those for FFVII, FFVIII and FFIX.

      • i like

the epic metal gear solid music

    • RAYMAN

      Raymanraymanrayman.

The original, 2D one of course.

And I still love the Pokémon Red/Blue tunes, although that may be a nostalgia thing.

    • Golden Axe

The music when you complete Golden Axe on the master system is probably the finest 8-bit song of all time.

It sounds so much like an Of Montreal song.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHWH6QVzWAY

it starts about 1:30 into the video :D

    • anamanaguchi

is a pretty cool 8bit band while were on that topic, check out helix nebula its amazing
      www.myspace.com/anamanaguchi

    • Hummm

In terms of having a big budget and resources, Id say something like the Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack, or the sheer plethora of lovely musicks you get in Shenmue.

Resident Evil 4s soundtrack, at least in terms of in-game music is rather great too. It complements the game-play really well.

I also really like the theme music from Metal Slug X. It has this crazy industrial middle-eastern thing going on.

Pilotwings on the SNES had a really memorable theme too!

      • Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack is damn good

Especially the main theme. In fact, most of the Final Fantasy soundtracks are awesome. Nobuo Uematsu might just be God in disguise.

    • the best / worst thing ever

    • There's...

Some fantastic use of the intro music to Platoon on the C64 by Diplo

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXfkev09fHA

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faf0wdMHiTA

      • What about

Xenon 2 (Bomb the bass did that)
        Speedball 2 (Ice cream...)
Tomb Raider, when that choir start singing
        WipEout 2097
        Shadow of the Colossus

        • ummm

nobuo uematsu, and just general final fantasy scores

          then konami scores

oh yeah and the music in shadow of collosus

          • props for

Wipeout 2097 - pyyyaar class soundtrack.

I would offer honourable mentions for Deus Ex's Tangerine Dream/Deathprod style ambience, the song sung to you by the computer upon clocking Portal and all of the music in half life 2, though particularly the George A. Romero evoking score for Ravensholme

    • Comix Zone

you got a free CD of shite metal versions of tunes from the game with that.

      • i had comix zone

it was the best, i still have the CD

        • MEGA BONUS POINTS

if you can name the guy's rat!

          • Secret of Mana

Still tops for me. Hiroki Kikuta FTW!

          • Roadkill!

            • you win a partially broken

              six button megadrive controller!

              • shame I sold my Mega Drive then

wish I hadn't, reading this thread.

    • There's a Brazillian metal band

      That cover Megadrive soundtracks.

If i recall, the sonic green hill zone one is pretty amazing.

      http://www.megadriver.com.br/sitev2.html

    • google "Fantomas Video Game Music Covers"

I downloaded some years ago and they are absolute gems.

      • The Liverpool band

1UP do videogame covers and they're absolutely bloody fantastic. It's like a trip down memory lane every time they play live

    • I'll second The Advantage

mainly because they need mentioning again.
