Ubiquitous adopting of 'DiS phrases'

I've only noticed just how frequently this is done. It's quite irritating:

'^5'
'ZING!'
'dinner?'
'man the fuck up' (or its acronym)
'^WRONG'
'/thread'
'^racist'

etc, etc

Half the time it doesn't even make sense! (except '^this' which i accept does quite nicely in indicating that you agree with someone's point)

When it's someone's idiosyncrasy it's amusing (e.g. craigfoley's "dinner?" requests), but why does it become an online trend?! We should all take the example of the mullet comeback as a warning not to fascimile others.

I'll probably get slated for this, but hey-ho

they're just gags that

have a short shelf life, will probably get overused but to some are funny at the time.

SORRY MEDULLA

i can't see that link at work.

Still, if it's an example of 'ZING' only, there remain a plethora of other phrases

what was it?

i'm working so don't want to click any tinyurls.

it was a "twss!"

THAT'S
WHAT
SHE
SAID!

I high five people continuously

in real place. I don't understand the "dinner?" thing, I must have missed that DiSism.

It is part of the DiStopian society that we are all part of, yeah?

In summary, we're not as funny

as we think we are.

surely ^5 and ^this aren't "DiS phrases"

i don't think it's very important really, does it honestly annoy you that much?

i really really hate them

when I hear people use them in real life, I think OH MY GOD, my world is imploding. Or something similiar. But no-one really uses them in real life do they?

Oh, 'racist' - I used that well before DiS to insult my sister if she commented on my hair or my outfit. It was really funny because we're both brown.

unfortunately i've heard them being used in real life.

Your 'racist' anecdote made me smirk :)

the internet is not a true reflection of real life

it's like a weird fantasy world where nothing really matters.

oh and you forgot:

PHWOAR!!!
*swoon*
craine

ans some other strange ones that i don't understand.

JAG!

Lemon Shark!
Once I killa a man!

how could i forget JAG!

although i haven't heard the others. "grow a pair" was one but that's kind of died out.

Ho is Razorlit?

JAMIE!

SAMPLE!

Wut?

maybe dissers only use them with other dissers?

otherwise you'd have to give a long detailed explanation. "I'm part of an emo internet forum..."

I've actually only met two people that use such phrases and in one case, it's understandable. It's very annoying having someone yell 'ZIIIIIIING!' in your ear, btw.

Ideally, you'd come out with a phrase to a non-internet person and they'd think it was hilarious and you wouldn't have to explain its provenance.

Lets make some more up then.

That would sort everything out.

hope these help in some way shape or form...

Hi!

/thread

is not a DiS phrase. IT'S AN INTERNET PHRASE.

^ this

none of that is DiS-centric, read more *chan.

If anything DiS is usually pretty slow to pick up on memes and "hilarious trends", which if anything is nice because i rue the day pun threads catch on here.

MTFU, JAG and Amazing Scenes

are all phrases I have inadvertently used in a non-DiS context.

I keep using "FAIL" and "EPIC FAIL"

and "____ - centric" a lot IRL.

I hate myself.

My year 7s were fussing about doing a test.

I told them to 'man up!'

They now say it all the time. In their squeaky little soprano voices. It is freaky.

sounds

terrifying. i told my brother to man up the other day, though.

...

But none of these are Dis specific. Zing has been around since Mork and Mindy or some shit.

...

Like "okay then"?

...

Also: I invented Man Up. It was the codephrase for when we had to jump out of our burqas and attack the rebels. Worked like a charm and I've been using it ever since.
