Ball of Confusion...always thought it was a Love & Rockets "singleish" track. Nope. Temptations. My Motown knowledge = el sucko.

I only recently found out
(well, this year) that Yo La Tengo's The Whole Of The Law is a cover. Have I since bought all three Only Ones albums off the back of them writing one of my favourite songs of all time? Yes, yes I have.
Though I still prefer the Yo La version.
the yo la tengo version
is absolute perfection.
at SXSW las year
I heard some guy utter the immortal words (regarding the Knife track on the tannoy), "Who is this massacring Jose Gonzales?"
if ever there was a time to use a firearm
it was then
i fully
condone this
to be fair
99% of all people are going to think its his song.
replace 'people'
with philistines and we have a deal of fairness
to be fair
99% of all philistines are going to think its his song.
Deal?
let's shake on it
...
I love The Tempations version.
It used to be a staple of the jukebox in my old local.
I was amazed when I found out that Kingdom Come on Scary Monsters wasn't written by Bowie, but by Tom Verlaine.
and...
I didn't know for years that Oh Lonesome Me wasn't a Neil Young original.
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn!
Whaaaaaaat?
Blondie
most people seem to know that The Tide Is High was a cover but don't realise that Hanging On The Telephone and Denis were also covers
WTF?
serious
yup
hang on a sec
:-?
wow
here
http://philspector.wordpress.com/2007/10/19/under-the-covers-with-debbie-harry/
and their demo version of Heart of Glass is totally lolsome - despite Debbie's voice sounding as glorious as ever
WOW
consider me educated
likewise
i had absolutely no idea about those two songs
Nerves ftw
i love the nerves
crazily
I didn't realise until reading that Leonard Cohen vs Death Cab thread that Hallelujah wasn't originally by Jeff Buckley. I've just listened to the original, and it's not as good.
that IS
crazy. i prefer jeff's.
you should check out the version he did when he starts singing 'I know it's over' by the smith's half way through.
jaw droppingly hot.
cohen's version
is way better. well it is since Glastonbury.
That Klaxons song.
That'swat the world is today.....HEY HEY!
Patsy Cline "Crazy"
Willie Nelson wrote that
I said that one cause
I heard Willie singing it one time and I said hey he's doing Patsy Cline and then someone said hey, Willie wrote that song. But there are several great examples of what you are looking for but I just can't think of them.
i didn't realise oasis' Wonderwall was a cover
until Mike Flowers re-released his version.
Status Quo
In The Army Now. Makes sense really as it sounds slightly different to all their other samey output
I used to love The Quo
They are one of the worlds greatest covers bands.
The Wanderer
Roadhouse Blues
etc etc.
yes it was the only Laibach cover they did
I think
weren't about three of the first Pretenders singles Kinks songs
hmm>?
San Serac
Teenage Wildlife.
Turns out it's Bowie.
One of my friends didn't realise that RATM's Renegades
was a covers album in its intireity.
a lot of stuff by The Lemonheads
but then they successfully got me into Big Star.
Mickey
by Toni Basil, as in 'Hey Mickey!' was originally a song called Kitty, by Racey
Behind Blue Eyes
Is a cover by The Who of a Limp Bizkit tune. I never knew that!
took me a silly amount
of time to realise tainted love by soft cell weren't by them. Have to say they made it their own though in that almondy kind of way
primal scream
'slip inside this house' by the 13th floor elevators. great cover though
I thought big mouth strikes again was a placebo song
funny how much more it has dated than the original what with the mention of megadrives and discmans
Lemonheads
Outdoor Type. Still a great song mind.
