Pitchfork's top 20 albums from sub pop.
Do you agree with this list?
What's your favourite album to ever comed from the label?
I think with the 20 year anniversary coming up we should probably have some kind of discussion..
They gave us Nirvanna, The Shins, an awesome Sleater-Kinney album and more...plus two of the years better albums with No Age and Fleet Foxes
I don't really know the point of the this thread
I guess I just wanted to spark some kind of discussion.
Sorry for linking to pitchfork..
I know its not a very well liked site.
.
I thought the list was good - nice range, some new, some old.
Man, I love Codine.
Sub Pop were an awesome label. Anyone have that Revolution Come and Gone compilation? That was great.
Also - anyone remember when The Word did a feature on Sub Pop? or it may have been the Seattle scene. That was the first time I heard Earth.
my favourite sub pop album is
the white birch by codeine
then
apologies... by wolf parade
then
make the robot cowboys cry e.p by beachwood sparks
the postal service should really be in there too
.
Frigid Stars > White Birch

Apologies...
is fantastic
I had no idea Bakesale was released by Sub Pop.
So, my choice is that or Superfuzz Bigmuff.
Sub Pop 200

I used to have this and it was pretty hilarious and good. Is it on the list?
mojo is giving away 'sub pop 300' this month
I have sub pop 200 it put me off beat happening for years
So many
great bands, and so many great albums really.
I am listening to 'Oh Inverted World' right now. That's gotta be up there with the best In my opinion.
Actually, as the shins were my first introduction to the label, and because I never knew that Nirvanna had been signed to them, i always thought sub pop was basically just an indie pop label.
Ha!
but what about Cat Butt? Fair trade I'd say.
lol I have that Cat Butt record
also have
Blood Circus
Girl Trouble
The Walkabouts
The Fluid
all from when Sub Pop started up, do you think they are worth anything?
sell them to Bamos.
^ this
Ahahaha
They seem to think that Mother Love Bone were "later called Pearl Jam".
Ahahahaha. Just can't read any more after that.
Green River and Mudhoney
YESSSSSS
No Tad God's Balls?
Can someone fail this list for me please
the vaselines!

My favourite Sub Pop album is Chutes Too Narrow
My favourite singly to be released on Sub Pop is Jumpers by Sleater-Kinney. Or maybe Touch Me I'm Sick.
Yes Fastbacks, yes!
I've got a lot of time for Six Finger Satellite and that Velocity Girl album as well.
They've got the wrong Red Red Meat album in there though.
That list isn't as bad as it could have been. My personal list:
1. Diary - Sunny Day Real Estate
2. Superfuzz Bigmuff - Mudhoney
3. Bleach - Nirvana
4. Bakesale - Sebadoh
5. The Body, The Blood, The Machine - The Thermals
6. The Full Sentence - Pigeonhed
7. Give Up - The Postal Service
8. Dreamcake - Jale
9. Congregation - Afghan Whigs
10. Pond - Pond
11. It's Heavy In Here - Eric Matthews
12. Chutes Too Narrow - The Shins
13. Jimmywine Majestic - Red Red Meat
14. The Sacrilicious Sounds... - The Supersuckers
15. Love Tara - Eric's Trip
16. Descended Like Vultures - Rogue Wave
17. Goin' Thru Changes - Zumpano
18. Pleasure Forever - Pleasure Forever
19. +/- - Holopaw
20. Somebody Spoke - The Hardship Post
That's if we're only allowed one album per artist, obvs. And is subject to massive changes when I do things like realise that I've left off people like Big Chief. And Pissed Jeans. Bugger. Erm. As you were.
Bakesale's ace, I haven't listened to that in ages.
The whole Sub Pop 20 thing has made me listen to Massachusetts by Scud Mountain Boys again, and it turns out it's pretty good. Not mind-blowingly amazing, but better than I thought it was.
I'd also put Tournament of Hearts by The Constantines in their list.
Scud Mountain Boys can kiss my grits.
That's what you should call your third album
and fill it with covers of their songs, but with you going "meh weh weh" over the top in a whiny voice.
