Seriously... this band are so fucking good it's unreal... The words... they're ridiculous...

    How come America gets 'bar rock' like this whilst we get lumbered with plodding, soulless, ultra-derivative, two chord pub rock like The Stereophonics?

    It's not fair.

    The Hold Steady have NO WEAK SONGS, not even one.

    Amazing band.

  • Heres a confession

    I heard about them lots last year & heard Chips Ahoy, though I thought it was good (really good) their sound didn't appeal to me. On a whim I got Stay Positive (as ya do) and it's simply fantastic! WHERE TO NEXT?!?!?!?!

              Which particular bands are using similar riffs, similar lyrics and similar vocal delivery. If you can name me 10 that aren't laughable, I'll concede. If you can name me a million, I'd be slightly suprised.

            Soft Rock is a compilation consisting of the first two albums (Lifter Puller and Half Dead and Dynamite) plus almost everything else they ever released. Fiestas and Fiascos is the third album.

  • took me a while

    with "boys & girls", but now i really like it.

    "stay positive", though, is fucking AWESOME and probably my album of the year so far.

  • The general opinion of the The Hold Steady seems to have changed massively on these boards

    There used to be loads of 'They're overrated' threads and now there seems to one every few days saying how great they are.

    my love for this band. So many great songs, so many great lines. And I saw them live for the third time last night which only confirmed for me that they're basically the best live band in the world.

    I love the way you can tell they're having the time of their lives every time they take to the stage.
