Let's get excited about Latitude thread

So this time next week, we'll be there! Who you going to watch? What are you excited about?

I'm most looking forward to Interpol, BSP, cider, Howling Bells, Black Kids, Elle S'appelle, Bearsuit, Franz, Johnny Foreigner, Gravenhurst, camping and fun.

  • oh

um. i will be having me some of:
death cab, grinderman, twilight sad, johnny foreigner, elbow, guillemots, OKKERVIL RIVER, crystal castles, lovvers, jonquil, bearsuit..
and a lot of vodka redbull. YUM YUM.

    i'm excited.

    • + YACHT, Wave Pictures,

      malcolm middleton, emmy the great...

      so much.

      also: DISCO SHED

      • These

are all the place where I will be too!
        yay!
        and joanna newsom of course.
our tickets came this morning as well!
        I'm far too excited :)

    • Can't believe I am not going to this!

It was just one festival too much for me after going to loads this year. When actually it probably looks like I would have enjoyed this most!

Sigur Ros, Grinderman, Okkervil River and I would have loved to have seen Mars Volta again....

I might hang outside the fences weaping into my Brothers Cider...

  • Interpol

Elbow, Sebastien Tellier, Grinderman, Bill Bailey, Simon Day!, Rich Hall etc...

Should be great, hopefully the weather will hold up its end of the bargain.

    • JULIAN COPE!!!!

      *faints from joy*

      DEUS! WOO!!!!
      Grinderman! YAY!
      Bill Bailey! HOORAH!!!!

And so much more. S'gonna be ace, can't wait. Haven't got tickets yet!

    • franz,

broken records, elbow, seasick steve, mars volta, coral, grinderman, nada surf, foals, gravenhurst, pivot, okkervil river, black lips, errors and many of the comdenians. so many goodens!

  • J-to-the-O-to-the-F-to-the-O

Interpol, The Breeders, Lovvers, Nada Surf, This City, Okkervil River, dEUS, Cider, Falafel, Polly Scattergood, Pretty girls in cowboy boots and floral dresses, ice cream, gallivanting by the lake, the woods at night, late night iPod sessions outside the tent, Hipflask assisted Jack Daniel's smuggling, comedy, films, The LOLZ!

  • I am looking forward to

taking my 24 can crate of Pear Kopperberg from Ikea and getting totally wasted on it and dancing in the woods

    also that and bands

    • your teeth will hurt.

    • ^5 on the ikea kopparberg crates

i've already broken into mine though

    • Woo!

I feel sick with excitement at it all.

      • Yay!

Okkervil, Deus, Sigur Ros, Grinderman in that order.

I've never been before - are there woods?

        • yes

the Sunrise stage is in there, and just along from it there's another area actually called 'In The Woods' which has late night djs. also i think they do some of the theatre and stuff around there.

          • I didn't realise one of the stages was actually in the woods

            Awesome.

          • Sounds like fun..

...and I forgot about Glasvegas playing too. Very much looking forward to their Brylcreem music!

    • 24 crates of Kopparberg always seem like a great idea

      They're not - trust me.

Ask guntrip, he saw the state it reduced me to. I had heartburn so bad I couldn't eat properly for 2 days after ATP

  • It's going to be awesome

Sigur Ros, Joanna Newsom, Okkervil River, Grinderman, Franz Ferdinand and so much more...might even top last year. Just praying the weather ain't too shit...

  • My tickets have just come too.

    Far too excited!

    In no particular order:

DCFC, Sigur Ros, dEUS, Lovvers. Thomas Tantrum, Bearsuit, Elbow, Howling Bells, Wild Beasts, Nada Surf, Foals, Okkervil River, Micah P. Hinson, Metronomy, Crystal Castles, Black Lips, Natty, Emmy The Great, J Wo, Jo Fo, Godwits, Errors, Broken Records, Murder By Death, Rich Hall, Otis Lee Crenshaw, Richard Ayoade, Dave Gorman, Rufus Hound, Bill Bailey, Tim Minchin...

    Aaaargh it's gonna be clash-central :|

    • I'm going to spend a lot of time

sorting out who and what I'm going to see, and frantically moving between everything.

Ooh dear me I'm excited! Gonna have to take it easy on the cider though, I don't want a reoccurance of "acid guts" again. That makes me feel like death for days.

      • Im curious to see how Guillemots

are gonna ruin the soundtrack to Eraserhead.

    • Richard Ayoade

you say that he is appearing? On what stage as I can't see him on any list but would love to see him?

  • I'm really excited about this!

Murder by Death, Howling Bells, Crystal Castles, Clinic, Sigur Rós, Guillemots, Interpol, Grinderman and Foals to name but a few! I'm particularly looking forward to Howlnig Bells, as they're one of my favourite bands and I've never seen them live before.

I still need to practise putting our tent up, though. :\

  • I am pretty much dripping with excitement already

Too many bands to list, so many I'm scared I won't have time to take in all the other stages.

Plus especially looking forward to DISCO SHED! and SWAP-A-RAMA! :D

    • Is the actual arena really small?

      • Yeah

It's not tiny but it's the perfect size for getting around.

  • ERRORS ERRORS ERRORS

plus Howling Bells and Okkervil River means it will be ace. And Frankie Boyle. And all the other shit! My tickets got here about 20 minutes ago. EXCITEMENT CENTRAL.

  • I'm watching every band. Literally every band!

  • My friend won an NME competition to get two free VIP tickets

So so jealous. Especially with Joanna Newsom playing, assume she'll do some new stuff too.

  • i might not go

    • Looking forward to it very much.

To confuse things they keep on announcing appealing non-musical things, like the Bafta stuff. And this year I'll try and see a least 1 or 2 comedians, if I can get past he hordes of selfish middle age dads clogging up the tent.

      • why are they selfish...???

should they ask you first before they are allowed to watch anything?

        • they all sit down inside and take up loads of room

so there will be a row of people standing around the outside of the tent and nobody else will be able to see anything

    • huh?

  • SOMEONE SELL ME A TICKET

  • for me it's mostly about sigur ros

joanna newsom, grinderman, interpol, elbow, the breeders, stewart lee, elle s'appellle, tindersticks.
any thing else I should have a look at?

  • WHY IS NO-ONE EXCITED ABOUT NADA SURF

    gonna be great.

the weather looks a bit shite, though. and I've spent the last four days in a tent, I'm not sure how much more I can handle...

    • i didnt know nada surf were playing

      huzzah

    • Because they're a bit rubbish?

    • I am, it's going to be great!

Haven't seen them live in over 10 years!

  • Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy

Interpol have started ending their pre-encore sets with Roland. THAT IS ENOUGH TO WARRANT THE TICKET PRICE

Then of course there's Grinderman, Rich Hall, Errors, Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Ros and/or Mars Volta (ARGGGHHHHH), The Go! Team, Omid Djalili, Bill Bailey, These New Puritans, Wild Beasts, Foals, Ross Noble, British Sea Power, Frankie Boyle, Elbow, Nada Surf, Lovvers and Russell Howard to complement that.

  • OMG SO EXCITED!

Anyone else staying in the Loner's Camp? I'm gonna watch:

Clinic, Slow Club, The Do, Ross Noble, Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Ros, Johnny Flynn M+F, Dave Gorman, Rich Hall, Frankie Boyle, Grinderman, Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring, Bearsuit, Okkervil River, Micah P Hinson, Noah and the Whale, YACHT, Soko, Jeremy Warmsley and more!!!

    • I'm staying in the Loners Camp

I do think I prefer the name 'Billy Loadsa Mates' though.

      • I will be mostly looking forward to...

Elbow, Interpol, FF, Sigor Ros, Bill Bailey, Metronomy, Frankie Boyle, Marcus Brigstocke, Lee Mack, Ross Noble, Black Lips, The Now Show, Midnight Juggernauts.... and of course sum Guilty Pleasures DJ. so much good stuff. Will be the perfect weekend.

    • what is the loners camp?

  • I just got offered a free ticket...

...and I'm snapping that up. Can't wait!

    • AHHHHHHHHHHH

I HATE YOU! (Not literally of course, just metaphorically, otherwise that would be quite rude.)

  • argh

just heard i've got a place to work with the workers beer thingy. am absolutely shitting myself :( i'll be by myself and argh! anyone else doing it? :( :(

  • Only a couple more days...

Can't wait to see (bands I've seen before and really wanna see again!): British Sea Power, Go Team, The Aliens, TMV, Interpol.

And the bands I've never seen before: Foals, JoFo, Sebastien Tellier, Metronomy, Yacht etc etc.

    It should be awesome.

  • Missed out falafel, Suffolk Sausage Company, Disco Shed

    and Rivers Cuomo.

  • what goes on on thursday?

is it cool to arrive on the friday?

    • There's a few things on Thursday night

I think last year I remember watching some weird Daft Punk film and just wandering around aimlessly but you wouldn't be missing anything important by arriving on friday.

  • I might explode.

Finally getting the chance to see Elbow is the biggest deal for me, by far. And then there's my duel-faves Interpol and Death Cab. Plus Sigur Ros. And then there's Lykke Li, Wild Beasts, Joanna Newsom, The Twilight Sad, Errors. There's fuggin' loads.

    • Errors and Death Cab will probably clash though

      I regret.

      • Oh, wack.

I've seen Death Cab once before, and I'm surprisingly underwhelemed by Narrow Stairs.

One more tough choice to make.

  • the times are now up on the website!

    http://latitudefestival.co.uk/lineup/arena.aspx?stage=music

click on the individual names. i think people on the official forums are going to put together a clashfinder...

    • All looks okay for me

Apart from Lykke Li starting the second Breeders finish. And Lykke Li finishing just 20 minutes before Blondie start... wanted a good spot in the tent. Not quite sure what to do with Sunday night now!

    • Rather pissed at Guillemots/Eraserhead clashing with Franz Ferdinand :(

    • ohh this is good

No clashes for me as far as I can tell...I've just made my timetable.

Who should I see on Saturday, apart from I Am Kloot and Elbow? Not familiar with many of the other bands that day...thought I'll be seeing the Factory's Hamlet, Tim Minchin and Bill Bailey with luck, so not complaining too much...

    • FUCK FUCK FUCK

Sigur Ros and Mars Volta are clashing, as I always knew they would, but there's almost no overlap. Also, Crystal Castles and Errors clash, so that's me definately seeing Errors.

    • sure this is right?

for one thing go! team and johnny foreigner clash - you've missed out death cab second down on mainstage.

      • oh yeh...

18:35 - 19:35 - Go Team, main stage. I'll see JoFo some other time. Love Go! Team at festivals. Such fun.

    • hello dead

looks like im following you around all day on friday.

      • cool...

you can call me Robin if you like

        • nah

          thats alright

          • whore?

            on second thoughts.

            • sure.

shall we meet for slow club/murder by death? i dont think anyone else will do it. unless you are in a mega-popular group

              • nope,

                just me and two others.

i'm working on the barrow boys thing on thursday and friday morning, so say hi.

                no big "DiS meat?" then?

                • yes

after franz ferdinand i believe. i havent arranged it though so not sure.

                  • link?

I missed the Primavera DiS thing (that I arranged) because I forgot about it.

  • WOAH

that is a MASSIVE set for The Twilight Sad. i thought they'd be bumped to the second or third arena but they are actually directly replacing MIA.

    • Only a half hour set

though in the mid-afternoon. Hardly a make or break moment in their careers is it?

      • friday

        is such a clash fest.

I heartily recommend everyone write their times down. last year there only small programmes for the times and they are impossible to keep in decent nick, plus pages fall out easily.

      • no

but id wager it'll be the biggest audience they've played to by a considerable amount

  • I need to be at the site...

for 9am on Thursday (I'm working there). Just checked the site and it says that Halesworth is 6 miles away from the site, and it says that the shuttle buses aren't running until the afternoon.

How big is Halesworth? Any taxi firms? I don't fancy a 8am trek to the site.

  • Bastards!

Dave Gorman clashes with Blondie and Interpol. Boooo :(

      • My god

That is awesome, thanks for that. Shame about these clashes, but I'll live

        Murder By Death/Russel Howard
        Seasick Steve/Rich Hall
        Blondie/Grinderman

    • It's looking like this for me:

      FRIDAY
      The Godwits
      The Joy Formidable
      Broken Records
      Slow Club
      Micah P. Hinson
      Bearsuit
      a.P.a.T.T
      Jonquil (first half)
      British Sea Power
      The Go! Team
Death Cab For Cutie (first half)
      Martha Wainwright
      Franz Ferdinand

      SATURDAY
      Wallis Bird
      Beep Seals
      Wild Beasts
Bill Bailey (my token non-musical selection)
Ida Maria OR YACHT (probs Ida Maria, as I'm seeing YACHT at the ICA next month)
I Am Kloot OR The Little Ones
[2 Hour Gap, might have a wander, see what's going down elsewhere]
      Guillemots (first half of set)
      Elbow
      SIGUR ROS!!!!!!!!!!!

      SUNDAY
      Joanna Newsom
      Fields OR Polly Scattergood
      Those Dancing Days
These New Puritains OR Noah and the Whale
      Nada Surf
      FrYars
      Patrick Watson
      Glasvegas
      Okkervil River
Grinderman OR Blondie (probs Grinderman, may flit between the two)
Interpol OR Tindersticks (may check the beginning and end of Interpol, and watch Tindersticks in the interim)

      • Annoyed

that Guillemots and Elbow clash slightly >< Oh well.

Think I'll watch just a bit of Guillemots.

  • where's good to camp?

any experienced Latituders please share your expertise.

And to be perfectly honest im old and grumpy so not after party central in terms of camping!!

Also, whats the onsite supermarket like? is it drasctically overpriced and terrible or okay to get some bits there...?

    cheers

    • The consensus seems to be that 'Yellow'

is the best place to camp.

It's nearest to the arena and it's supposed to be the 'liveliest' of the campsites, not that it's going to be exactly like Reading or anything!

I'm hoping this proves to be correct, I'd love a happy medium between the WAKKY!!!11 '5 go fucking mental all the time'/tents on fire antics at Reading and the miserable bastards who tell you to keep the noise down after 11.

      • i love a good tent burning

as long as you check no-ones inside.

        • Last one to chuck a Calor gas canister on the fire is a LOSER!

          • First one to chuck a Posh, Home-Counties thug onto a camp-fire of gas canisters,

gets free entry to next years Latitude!

        • neeko11

did you make that chart yerself? it very impressive.

          • that would be me

who made the clash guide was just coming on here to put a link but neek011 has beat me to it

          • nope...

just copied from a post on last.fm, useful stuff, cheers gooma

            • Great stuff Gooma

Was admiring your handywork on the latitude forum so at least get to thank you on here...cheers!

      • hehe

agree, and that made me laugh. see you soon alex! (laura)

if anyone can give me ideas on how to fill the (very few) gaps i have then please do so!

    • Robin Ince's Book Club

When and where possible. Spent more time there last year than most of the music stages.

      • Book Club is a must

like citizenmeh spent a lot of time at the Book Club last year and it was ace if only for the genius that was the mills and boon sex off !

  • This'll be

the third country I've seen BSP in this year...

    1) Portland, Oregon
    2) Barcelona, Spain
    3) Suffolk, UK

    Fucking love this band.

    • I hate clashes

I know you'll all say watch BSP, but I really wanted to go and have a dance to Black Kids. And I am going to see BSP at the Roundhouse in October. What to do?

      • Gutted.

I didn't realise that BSP were clashing with Black Kids.

        • Thought they were gonna clash with Howling Bells

but turns out it's Black Kids. That's the only real clash for me though.

          • Black Kids Black Kids Black Kids!!!

            Lets Dance! :)

  • QUICK QUESTION:

how strict are they on stereos in the campsite? can you get away with it as long as you don't take the piss by playing wolf eyes at 4am or something?

    • last year

I had a stereo blasting out party hard until about 3am and nobody complained so you should be fine.

      • The Clashes arent awful

I can catch a bit of Mars Volta and see all of Sigur Ros...but GRINDERMAN/BLONDIE/BLACK LIPS! WTF! Griderman win.

        • ^ That's the only real bad set of clashes.

I think I'll have to forego Blondie, Black Lips and Lykke Li unfortunately.

I'm pleased there's some good bands on all days, as last year I remember Friday was a bit rubbish.

  • and it goes a little something like this............

  • I'M EXCITED

    thanks

    • I'M VERY EXCITED

I am not doing any work today.

  • IDA MARIA HAS PULLED OUT

and is being replaced by Fanfarlo.

    THAT IS ALL.

    • AWESOME

      That's very good news.

Unless you really like Ida Maria, I guess...

  • WHO'S BEEN BEFORE?!

If it rains Thursday, will the ground be all muddy and stuff? I was just gonna take my trainers, but would it be worth bringing something more suitable? Does it get muddy? Boots are so bloody heavy and take up rooom in my bag :(

    • It didn't really rain last year

but I read on the Latitude forum that the site's got good drainage and doesn't turn into a mudbath when it rains so you should be OK with trainers. I'm gonna bring boots just in case though...

      • ahhhh, OK.....

fuck it, I'm going with the trainers. can't be arsed to lug those boots around just to not wear them. My trainers are on their last legs anyway (PUN!)

Another question... is it like Reading/lots of other festivals, where there is a gate to get into the arena and the only way of sneaking booze in is up your arse or in your ear? or is it the (better) set up of "once your in, you in" (truck/glastonbury) and you can walk freely between arena and campsite, thus being able to take your own booze to watch bands?

        • You definately can't take drink from campsite to arena

There is also a very strict No Glass policy which applies to the arena AND campsite. Don't know if they search you for it.
The latitude website forum is very useful for these sorts of questions.

        • i've not been

but all the literature suggests it's a campsite/arena divide like reading. remember, for all it's pretentions of being an 'arts festival', it is still run by Festival Republic.

          • This is correct

The security guys at the arena gate got very half-arsed with checking stuff after the first day though, it wasn't hard to bring booze in.

          • true

but you don't get the shit organisation of an 'arts festival' and at least there's drinking water.

    • Wear your boots to travel

and put your trainers in your bag. Trainers are much easier to fit in bag and you can change into them when you get there, that's my plan.

      • That's what I was thinking...

as it's what I did when travelling America. Plan Batman

  • I'M SO EXCITED.

    :D

  • can you get site maps and stuff like that when you get there?

I've been trying to print out the site map but it's not working, and now I'm going to get lost :(

    • also

how much ££ would you recommend bringing? Probably won't be eating a vast amount, drinking a bit more but again not loads.

I have cereal bars, marshmallows for toasting, orange juice and oreos. I reckon I'm sorted.

      • Site maps will be available

I always take £100 to be on the safe side, but try not to spend it all...

  • bah

just got an email syaing that place with workers beer was filled already so i can't go :( just wasted a whole lot of time and money :( and now stuck in london for a week. i really wanted to see interpol! sob! have fun you lucky people :(

    • Well that sucks

Just go anyway, get a ticket outside.

  • I'm leaving the house now

    I'll see you all there!
