Unfortunately, this is not the much called for Horse Vomit anniversary reunion show. I don't know if that's ever going to happen...
Anyway, it's going to be me and fellow HV member Cementimental doing a collaborative harsh noise/power violence set. It will be pretty punishing hopefully.
It's at the Cross Kings or Cross Keys or whatever it's called in Kings Cross, i'm not sure, i've never been there, is it is a good venue?
So yeah, please come. It's being headlined by these chaps: http://www.myspace.com/mmmplus Who I rather like. I think it's £3 to get in; now that's value.
Wrong board.
FAIL!
accidental?
(cynical)
Why would I deliberately post it on the social board?!
for extra exposure
but no worries, Im glad I know about it! think i might see you there
i definitely want to see this.
Me too..
..if im guarenteed free entry & drink all night.
will you be getting your winkie out again?
I don't know really.
As much as I am aware this is what draws some people to the shows, it shouldn't be the only reason people come.
In short, I don't really pre-plan such things, if it happens it happens.
it's not 'reall'y the wrong board is it
I've pnly been 'upstairs'..where you can hear everyone for free because its only the curtians between the stage bit and the pub.
haven't been downstairs. dont't know what it's like
downstairs is basically a cellar.
It's ultra-warm as well and there's no stage.
do tell
what is powerviolence?
do tell
what is wikipedia?
i don't trust wikipedia
it thinks test icicles are noise
no it doesn't
.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise_rock#Time_line_of_notable_noise_rock_performers
i love that page
it must annoy SO MANY genre geeks.
:)
This page needs serious repair
You'd have to be insane to tell me Airiel and Daughters have even one stylistic similarity besides the fact that they use drums, guitars and basses...the list of bands includes anything from noise rock to math rock to shoegaze to mathcore, and many of these bands have absolutely nothing in common. It should be made clear as well that "noise" and "distortion" are not synonymous.
:D :D :D
Sonic Youth
Do you really think Sonic Youth was still noise rock in 2005?
:D 'kinell!
noise rock.
not noise.

Powerviolence on Wikipedia
This page was written by Chris Morriss, surely?
"Spazz vocalist and bassist Chris Dodge's record label Slap-a-Ham Records was a fixture during the rapid rise and decline of power violence, releasing influential records by the likes of Neanderthal, No Comment, Crossed Out, Infest, Spazz, etc. The label's Fiesta Grande was an annual power violence festival held at 924 Gilman from 1992 to 2000. Spazz drummer Max Ward's label 625 Thrashcore has started its own festival, Super Sabado Gigante, in a similar vein. Geographically, power violence was specific to the Bay Area. While power violence grew out of thrashcore[citation needed] (often referred to simply as "thrash"), this style is distinct from the thrash metal groups active in the same place, at the same time. Bands such as Fuck on the Beach helped to bring attention and eventually new scenes to Tokyo and other cities in Japan. Today, Japan is host to many power violence, fastcore and thrash bands."
'much called for'
The Cross is next to Canvas, where they used to have Kill All Hippies. That's all I know.
Will you
spout tory propaganda in between songs? I do hope so.
Nah.
We only do one song per set, so there's no real opportunity to any between song canvassing.
PLEASE WEAR A TSHIRT WITH
DAVID CAMERON ON PLEASE PLEASE
perhaps you could play
david cameron speeches backwards while you're playing in a Slayer/Anthrax-esque fashion?
Having had a rehearsal yesterday
there may well be some hidden propaganda. It will most likely take the form of a distorted speech.
Aww
I'd like to have seen this.
It's NEXT Tuesday.
It hasn't happened yet!
I know
but I'm in Germany, baby!
The Cross Kings has two venues.
There is the downstairs cellar bit, which is rather excellent and a stage in a back bar, which is rather less so.
If you are going to be rowdy, I imagine you'll be in the downstairs bit.
Yeah, we're in the basement.
Jesters Bar I think it's called.
Is it any good down there?
Small, sweaty, low-ceilinged
Down I Go and Adebisi Shank slayed there (not a typo). It's a fine cellar. Wish I could make it to the gig.
This sounds perfect!
Why can't you make it?
I'm going to Brittany for three days next week
on a King Arthur-themed press trip. Sorry. I'll bring back a souvenir.
i want a photo of you dressed as king arthur.
So do I
but I'm not sure it's going to happen.
<3 Adebisi Shank
they're hopefully touring again in October, should be RAD.
I'd be really curious to see this.
But I've just decided I need to save £800 for a Mac ASAP.
Now I don't know what to do.
Can you promise me nakedness?
Well, it's £3, couldn't be much cheaper.
No, I can't promise you nakedness, but at the same time I can't promise that there won't be nakedness either.
...
Hell yes. It's on, (woodpile) nigga!
^ This is going on the flyer.
Seriously though, please do come.
unfortunately
I'm watching another bloke take is cock out at the underworld on the 15th
Enoch N' Roll
10/10
:D
Damn it
This would be the night I am father son bonding with my dad. That said, I am really looking forward to seeing No Country For Old Men.
the venue downstairs
is quite a decent cellar and could be good, but I think they get crowds of about 6 people on average.
Haha,
yeah, that's the impression I got. Still, I think we'll be able to drag a few people along.
Do you know if they normally get pissed off about sound levels? We want it to be as loud as possible and because of the frequenies we use it'll be quite uncomfortable. I mean, that;s the point od course, but it's annoying when it's really quiet or the landlord gets narky, it totally ruins the impact.
I asked the lady that booked bands
she said they dump all the loud bands there so it shouldn't be a problem.
But these were mostly hardcore bands.
but you're gonna use mostly high frequencies no?
That's only going to annoy people in in the cellar with you
and they won't let you touch their mainboard
so use your own mixer, add a limiter/compressor and give them a stereo out.
ensures you won't cause any damage
I'd like to come.
But equally I'd like not to be in a cramped, sweaty cellar with earplugs in a few hours after a flight home from a wedding, so the chances are I won't be there, sorry.
i'll come if you definitely get your winkie out
fuck
I meant, if you definitely DON'T.
yeah SURE
i'm interested, let's go.
you're interested in seeing his winkie?
Okay, just put your fingers over my eyes at the relevant point.
it's you who's interested in his winkie, remember?
i'm there for the noise.
you're the pervert
not me
i'm there for the noise too, yeah?
actually i'm working that night, but might be along if you and gaz are actually are really going
I think Id like to go
cool
and fine zakia, i'll be the pervert.
also,
are gaz and i a package deal these days? it's good value.
bogof
i don't think you got a good deal
Buy one, get one free, that you didn't want anyway.
that's to Sarah, by the way
Sarah's a good deal.
You're like the sandwich toaster.
how is a sandwich toaster bad?
you just always get one free with the toaster
which is what you really want and you put it away and then it gathers dust and you assume it's broken. Eventually you bring it out and realise it's working and you think 'I should really do this more often'. But you never do.
So what you're saying is:
"Don't hide the toasted sandwich maker away, use him regularly and you'll get the most out of him".
No, she's saying 'Chuck your boyfriend, have a sandwich'.
i'm real cheap though
i'll usually take what's free even if i don't want it.
i could use a cheese toastie right about now.
ewwww
you want Gaz's cheese...
x
I might go
I
live quite close to this.
Would be good to see what CG looks like in the flesh! Although I don't know if I want to see *that* much flesh.
Stop ruining yourself, CG :(
THIS IS A BUMP.

this thread has some of the worst flirting i've EVER seen
Good isn't it.
It also acts as a handy way of continually bumping the thread.
yeah, but it's distracting
You're losing your street cred
I wasn't aware I had any street cred.
This gig is sooooo me.
Seriously though, I work just down the road so may pop along.
As one of the better users of this site.
I think you should. We have a rather exciting live show planned.
That should be a comma, not a full stop.
Makes it look like i'm bigging myself up.
I'll be there, don't you worry.
I like the Cross Kings actually.
Wonderful!
We're playing in the downstairs bit apparently.
Yeah, we played there in May (i think).
It's a nice venue, a bit of an oddity in Kings Cross really.
Ah, you've played there?
Do they let you have it loud? Like, really loud? And are they pretty 'liberal' in terms of the band's performance, or do they get pissed if you do anything other than stand there and just play?
I don't think we had any restrictions imposed.
Volume or other?
They just let us do what we wanted really.
What time are you playing?
...
There's no stage as such, so you're pretty much free to have a wonder. And the place already looks like a tip, so feel free to fuck shit up. As for volume, well the only bands I've ever seen there have been metal up the arse, so I can't see that being a problem either.
A final bump, but an informative one.
We are on at 20.45.
I'm quite confident with my being at this
as long as my friend Oliver doesn't cancel on my stinky ass.
