okay, i don't know what else to call it. you know, lush melodic stuff that's as much shoegaze as indie pop

i already love:
Surrounded
Asobi Seksu
Radio Dept
Beach House
The Clientele

so, recommend some similar stuff, go!

Mazzy Star

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

oh yeah, i love Cocteau Twins

i should probably have posted a longer list, i just thought i'd throw out some recent references

wikipedia has a rather dubiously long list of dream pop artists which includes, oddly, Doves

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dream_pop_artists

Mercury Rev are dream pop?

Ok, well get Deserter's Songs then. Except you've probably already got it...

ALL OF THEM!

NOW!

oh I don't know 'she hangs brightly'

or 'Among my Swan'

some of us aren't on teachers' salaries

i'm a student! i can only afford one CD per month (well, maybe two or three), i have to spend wisely

but you recommended some, so that's okay

Sorry I get a bit carried away....

I love Mazzy Star.

So Tonight That I Might See

Then get the other two.

Trust.

^this

x10000000000000000

^definitely this

on my list to listen to

i need to do a day on myspace sometime listening to everything that people recommend

^ yes

<3

future crayon

by Broadcast.

will listen, ta!

Air France

Its not to shoegaze but it fits some kind of dream pop vibe all the same.

okay!

woop

i really like this band

mega good

Air France

Cannot stress just how good they are!

cranes

.

ta

more please!

pah

just listen to galaxie 500

will do

well, not *just*, but i'll listen Among Other Things

This Mortal Coil

'It'll End In Tears' - everything good about 80's 4AD.

The first Mojave 3 record is awesome, though probably not 'strictly' dream pop.

Mojave 3...

...they're something to do with Slowdive, right? someone recommended them once and i forgot to listen, d'oh

yeah

it's pretty much the line up of Slowdive, but taking a completely different musical direction. Track the first album down, it's incredible.

try

My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, m83, Maps...

love MBV

love "Ladies and Gentlemen..." by Spiritualized but never really connected with anything else
detest M83
vaguely impressed by Maps but never given a big listen, they're on my "list" though

anyone mentioning This Mortal Coil

gets mad love from me (hope you're ok with that) but you still FAIL for choosing the wrong album.
"Blood" would have been the correct answer.
Listen to this NOW:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ4_b8e4XAE

Also,

they may not be dream pop, but for some reason I think this belongs in this thread:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJpjcYqGjhw

The album that's off is essential.

Amen

To that

There's this band called Pinewood Derby

Really obscure but they have a song called "Ivy on Stone" that is in a similar vein and is fucking incredible.

There's one Joy Zipper album

which is quite dream poppy.

which one...!

its called

AMERICAN WHIP

and its the definition of a dream pop lovey doveyt summer spent in the haze and the daisys

OLIVIA TREMOR CONTROL

Dusk At Cubist catlse & black foliage

~SERIOUSLY!!!

they even advertised for people to send in tapes of their dreams for inspiration.

you're not the first person to recommend them to me

i need to start listening to people more

definitely

they are ridiculously fantastical... get dusk at cubist castle... its out of this world, and if you like it you definitely CANNOT go wrong with black foliage

ps.

you will have to prob download, its expensive to buy unless you buy it from cloud recordings (like I did), and in that case it took a month ot two to turn up through my letter box!!

really?

I got them both cheap off Amazon easy. Curious.

I'll second the recommendation anyway, though I might switch around the order I got the albums in... Meh, either way, can't go wrong.

well

each 13 quid off amazon.... but 13 quid for both from cloud. I'm a cheapskate.

That's not being cheap!

I wouldn't pay £13 for an album either! I meant Amazon marketplace...

What about Midlake?

Surprised no-one's suggested them yet. On same label as Beach House and offer that same element of dreamy haziness.

really?

I like them, but I'd never call them dream pop...

I'd say Trials of Van Occupanther is that lush melodic sound

layered with very thick guitars, and their first album is pretty much a deep sleep...hmmm, yeah - that wasn't as good.

yeah, i wouldn't really call Midlake dream pop

don't get me wrong, i like Midlake's album a lot, but if Midlake are dream pop, you could probably stretch dream pop to include, like, Fleetwood Mac. which is silly

True

Maybe they're more "Baroque Pop" then - as such a thing is claimed to exist?

I think both are pretty escapist, like something you would climb up a tree and listen to...not that I would do such a thing...hmm.

Also...

check out Grouper - currently keeping the dream pop flame alive with some kind of beautiful, distorted interpretation: http://www.myspace.com/grouperrepuorg

"I'm Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill?"

Yup sounds about right.

felt

Goldmine Trash is a good place to start

this did make me think of

Scorpio Rising by Death In Vegas, that might not be the sort of thing you want though.

no, it's not

okay.

Sorry.

Mahogany

Look out for "The Dream of a Modern Day" and "Connectivity!"

^^^^

What they said, Connectivity is pretty much a perfect album.

Also, The High Violets.

Slowdive, Hope Sandoval...

...Mojave 3, Vanessa Daou (Zipless), Saint Etienne, Autolux

Yo la tengo?

some of their stuff could be called dream pop - You could have it all, autumn sweater, green arrow...

I've only got a best of and I can hear the heart beating as one, and they both seem to veer between these sorts of songs and shoegaze, and country.

Maybe someone who knows more about them will be able to recommend their most dream popy album.

You probably already know about them though.

Agree with Mazzy Star and Mahogany-

Connectivity is absolutely gorgeous, one of my favourite albums of the last few years.

Aislers Set if you like The Clientele

Galaxie 500 are the godfathers obviously

Henrys Dress and Black Tambourine are excellent

Young Galaxy are a recent good dream pop band

the moons

the heys

'Euphoria'

by Insides, they were one of the great lost 4AD bands in the early 90's. Havent seen a CD of it for years but you can probably get it from the 4AD shop, its more than worth checking out.

Miracle Fortress

That's dreamy in the dreamiest sense.

The Autumns and...

The Brother Kite's second album:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=WR6PZgUruQY
http://youtube.com/watch?v=xCGhellXalg

you won't regret it. ignore the grunge-y autumns vid, you have to remember that it was 1997. everything else is Slowdivey bliss.

crap, i forgot..

adorable - against perfection. here's the vid for sunshine smile - creation records at its underappreciated best:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=AfHQ-ig2pkA

and of course, the boo radleys: does this hurt?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=oLQoIdS2Tg4

ENGINEERS

are the best of the so called nu shoegaze bunch

the eye jab

i just found them, i love them!

also:
- mixtapes and cellmates
- sirka ragnar
- through snowy static

Give SIlversun Pickups a try.

You never know.

Au Revoir Simone

and 'How to measure a planet?' by The Gathering.

try

hammock
daysleepers

Slowdive - Souvlaki without doubt

As other people have said Connectivity by Mahogany is real awesome.

Maybe some Kitchens of Distinction?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YONJ-yp8Xi0

atlas sound

listening to this right now.....damn.....it's pretty good.....definitely dreamy, kinda poppy, lo-fi.....i might actually like this better than deerhunter.....

The Fleeting Joys

Very MBV - probably better than the comeback!
