Anyone else think The Verve's new song

is comedic?

"Ahow, ahow, ahow!"

And then at the end it goes on helium.

But then Dickie's singing is really serious and gravelly.

They must think that song is brilliant, since they closed on it at Glastonbury.

Personally I think its well shit. The Verve seem to me to be another band to add to the evidence backing up the 'Doing Drugs Makes You Produce Very Good Music' list.

Not good

It actually reminds me of Ashcroft's 'Keys To The World' (i.e. Not good)...

Yeah.

It does sound like a tasteless mix of his solo work and some guitars from a Stereophonics B side.

Not that I have listened to any Stereophnics bsides.

Worse than The Music.

I'm not a big fan but they tend to make danceilicious beats, but minus the comedy noises.

Motley Crue?

It's an absolute

stinking pile of shit.

Naaaaaaaaaaah.

I do applaud their lack of encore, as I think encores are evil and pointless, but I wanted Glastonbury to go out with some epic explosion of brilliance.

The song lasts for too long.

I HATE ENCORES!

So few bands don't do an encore and I applaud them when they don't.
The Music don't encore!

Good!

Neither do Howling Bells!

Um

*small voice* i quite like it- at least they're trying to go back to their earlier stuff, when they were good-ish

*curls up in corner and awaits kicking*

Quick, GET HIM!

Is u jokin? I assume you mean circa A Northern Soul? I think that's their absolute magnum opus. Huge psychedelic jams.

The beat of this is more modern, and the lyrics are nothing like old Verve. They're more like Aschcroft's solo boredom, influenced by his evil wife.

I quite like it

but then I own and enjoy all of Ashcroft's solo stuff so I'm pretty bias.

I like it too

It's not their best, not by a long shot, but its suitably grand with sufficient Verve-esque bluster. I'm just glad to have them back I guess.

uhm

the song is literally obscene

Good bassline and sort of 'A Storm in Heaven 2008' sort of thing

but not enough to hang them by - its 'ok'

It sounds like pure album filler,

which is worrying considering they released it as a single. The only thing that makes it bearable is Ashcroft's voice. (Not the wo hoo wo hoo bits)

yep

its nearly as bad as ashcroft going "woaaw woaaw woaaw" on bittersweet symphony

what a total n00b

this song

makes my ears bleed. my friend told me not to listen to it because he knew it would just break my heart, and he was right.

it sounds like there is a fucking monkey howling during the entire song. EPIC FAIL, ASHCROFT!

Monkey howling :D

Perfect

It's OK

which is probably a damning indictment. I would have enjoyed it more if the GUITAR had been HIGHER in the MIX - more McCabe!

trying to get that A Northern Soul

sound back, but failing. like you alluded to earlier maybe the drugs did work.

if

only richard would go mad again :(

Shoudl have finished on Come On at Glasto

Love is Noise is passable as a tune but Sit and Wonder is immence. The Verve ARE back but just not showing it on the first release. Probably a record company decision. And that applies to the woo woo bits as well.

They really should have finished

with a 20 minute spazz-out with Gravity Grave, methinks.
