Following my seemingly portentous 'recession' thread yesterday, I've just been told that our company is making redundancies due to a drop in turnover.
Looking at the proposed restructuring of the company, there isn't much role for me unless someone more experienced than me takes voluntary redundancy.
Can someone be nice to me please?
:(
Pretty harsh.
Be commandercool, not commanderemo!
:(
That sucks
:(
I dreamt about you once x
Why would you make him feel worse at a time like this?!
What sort of callous bitch are you??
shup up or i'll pinch your bitch-tits
fish face
Unlucky dude.
Kudos on the use of the word portentous though. That sort of language will have you back in gainful employment in no time.
Know anyone
who'll need a copywriter in the Leeds/Edinburgh areas?
Go to Hearts and see if Romanov will employ you.
He's a fucking loon, so if you go in and say the right (mental) words you could be editing every press release they put out within a week. And that's a lot of press releases.
Just make sure he doesn't take
McCall from Bradford.
Anyway, should I get a shirt with
MCCALL
4 EVER
on it?
Julio McCall?
And, no. Because he'll leave to become Everton manager in 4 years.
that sucks
but voluntary redundancy could be a decent package with which you can start your own thing
that counts for either you or 'someone more experienced' on whom you could use your powers of persuasion at the water cooler
Yeah
I'm sure news about voluntary redundancy details will come through soon and I'll speak to my boss about it when I've had a bit of time to let the news sink in.
Being a small/poor company, I'm guessing any package is going to be a minimal offering though :(
:(
the best can often come out of the worst
and other futile platitudes
good luck
let's go for a drink sometime
Let's
you're moving to Leeds in September, aren't you?
I may be back in the Boro area before then if I can't get a job and have to move back to the parents'.....
i am :D
you'll have to show me around leeds, as i am clueless.
If I'm still around
I definitely will do :)
(I mean in the city, I'm not going to top myself or anything)
awesome :D
you better be!
that sucks :(
although, when i was made redundant... it was shit but actually i'm glad it happened. i didn't like my job at all.
you'll probably get a decent package that will cover you for a while, while you can decide what you want to do!!!
you have wonderful hair
also
to cheer you up, there are photos of you from ATP on my facebook. though i can't remember whether we're friends or not.
I just requested you
:)
how long you been there?
,
coming up to a year
how much notice do u get
about redundancies?
No idea yet
we've only been told that there will be redundancies and have been given a propsed restructurement plan for the business (which seems to leave no room for me).
when I got made redundant
it was actually good! I got the summer off, a not bad payment and found a new and better job pretty quick
hope it all turns out OK :)
do you know
what a company HAS to give you if you get made redundant?
I'm worried because I've got less than a year's experience in this role and it's one I want to pursue as a career and in today's economy not many people are going to want to be hiring :(
you support spurs
and are good person. therefore youll be ok and have a shiny new job soon.
plus, you get money to not work right?
Some money
whether it's enough to live off is anyone's guess.
I've done the whole
moving back into the parents thing when I was skint before. I don't want to be forced into that again :(
ah well i hope you do get enough
and can find a new job you like! (not that this is much help i know)
but it could work out well for you, see what peopel said above.
If you could you might be able to turn this round to your advantage
If you have no need to be in Leeds, you could try to find a job that is in the countryside (this will hold you in good stead when the real bad problems start)
Working in the forrestry commission or on a farm or on some scottish estate (some thing with live in accomodation would be fantastic......because if they found they couldnt pay you fully they could still barter some work from you in return for accom and you being able to use some land to grow your own food and them giving you wood n stuff
Really ideally crofting would be the best thing to aim to be, but obviously you couldnt afford the outlay to buy one and there arnt exactly jobs advertised for this.
Seriously though, try domething like this it will be good for your soul as well as good for your body and future. I really wouldnt hold out much hope for jobs in the city cos they are mostly unessential and thus will go
u really do think this is
doomsday huh?
Im just amazed that others cant see that it is
well i already do live in the country
soo i guess im sheltered from it all a bit.
still, ok so loads of people dont have jobs and prices go sky high and we run short of food.
surely its just a period of adjustment before we grow more again? and to get back to pre insanity days financially? :S
how long do you think it would take until we could grow more?
who will then supply it? WHat will people buy it with? WHat will people eat in the time they spend waiting for people in the country to grow more for them? How wiill the food in the country get to the people in the city?
Why will country people give food to people in the city? What is their motivation? goodness?
Fuck me. I hope it's okay. DON'T LOSE YOUR JOB! :(
xxx
It's looking more than likely, Theo
I've just had an email from my manager about it...
what he said man :(
as people have already said
redundancy can be a good thing, in that it allows you time to look for something better while still having money to live off. i think you can expect to get paid out for your notice period, and if they're nice maybe then some.
obviously it's not so good in that you're actually in a job you want to be in, and see it as a career, but hopefully you'll get a great reference and it could be the motivator that you need to find something a lot better. and it will give you some breathing space to do so.
in other news, you seem like a really lovely person and my money is on karma being good to you, despite this news.
Lousy economy.
I think this might happen to me at some point soon as well.
Let's form our own company! We'll sell socks, Nik Naks and old radiators and then torch the place after two weeks in an insurance scam.
is this before or after
the failed bamos, colonol_k and sadpunk estate agency?
The same time!
Two businesses, one roof!
Also, Joe Mahon wants in on this as well, apparently.
Will he be willing to listen to Mudhoney
drink sambucca, dance like a tit and eat meaty snacks?
Of course
It'll be in his contract.
No....go to the country
Get a job somehow producing food (preferably diverse and on small scale)
If possible something that is not just on the edge of a major metropolitan area.
Or forrestry, theres always something to be ate there, also wood can be traded for food from farms n stuff.
Basically crofting would be best or maybe another ideal would be maintaining kitchen gardens or working on an estate that does some food stuff too.
Its a change of direction for you guys....maybe certainly, but these sort of jobs are at least 'REAL' jobs that can work even if other layers of society or systems of admin fail.
Also you will be in the country.
:(
Well that sucks!
I went through this recently and it worked out alright in the end.
I spoke to a lot of people about it and heard encouraging stories about how being made redundant gave them the kick up the arse they needed and most of them actually said that, career-wise, it was the best thing that happened to them.
Big love, Leopardbreath!! Don't be sad! :D
xx
Look on the bright side,
you can now achieve your ambition to be a professional blood bowl player!
Oh. That puts my moaning about
lack of annual payrise and rent increases into perspective.
This might make you smile briefly. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3006/2651643196_07726ece35.jpg?v=0
