Footballers you had on the back of your replica kit as a child!

Who did you have on the back of your shirt as a Kid; I went through my old kits at home, got some Villa legends:
Dean Saunders
Mark Bosnich
& the mighty Ugo Ehiogu!!!!!

Loved being a white pale 12 year old boy walking around with Ehiogu on my back! Best defender ever.

  • Bergkamp

    on every single one.
one with the prem league badges too.

  • YEBOHA

    hero

    • was it cheaper

      spelt incorrectly?

      • olololol

        sorry

i have his number in my phone

IT DOESNT MATTER I SPELT IT WRONG

        • You can't leave a comment like that hanging

"I have (Tony Yeboah's) number in my phone"?

          • well, i do!

i have my dads old phone, and he's one of my dads customers.

(my dad is not a male prostitute.)

david weatherall and gary speed too!

my friend tried to ring tony and ask him if knew where we could find some speed at about 4am when we were all wrecked once, but no answer ;(

  • Keane + Solskjaer

"Fat Roy Keane" was my nickname. Lovely Stuff.

    • Isnt that code for Fat, Angry and Irish

I wouldnt want to know u

      • i am now no longer

fat or irish. it was just a phase.

  • i'll give you a run down of all of mine

    Klinsmann
    Howells
    Redknapp
    Poyet
    Dawson

  • Cantona

on the green and gold Newton Heath-style away kit circa 1995, Giggs (with gold PL badges) on the 1995/96 home shirt and Solskjaer on the 1997/98 white away shirt.

Haven't worn an up-to-date replica since, though I do have a 1963 FA Cup final Utd shirt from Toffs.

  • I had 7 Lee

    as in, Robert Lee

I wanted a Gillespie shirt but they charged by the letter and we were poor

    • Actually it was just a number 7

      now I think of it

The extra £4.50 for 3 letters was an economic step too far

  • Hughes - 10

    Paisey - 8

  • when I was a kid they

didn't have names on the back of their shirts. Though when I was a teen I had Di Canio on the back of a shirt and people in the pub were asking why as he was shit. 5 minutes later on the big screen he scored one of the greatest ever goals and people actually clapped me as if I was Trevor Sinclair and had provided the cross. I hadn't.

  • robbie fowler

  • Henrik Larsson

    Paul McStay

  • Taibi - 1

    Eastwood - 23

  • Had a few

Berg on the back of a Blackburn 3rd shirt
Moller on the back of a blindingly bright Dortmund shirt
Baggio on the back of a faker than fake AC Milan shirt

    • oh

of course i had Nakata on the back of a dirt poor fake parma shirt, back in the day. absolute gold.

    • Redknapp - 15

I bought the whole kit from Inter Sport and had the name printed on the back after winning £80 at Bingo in Woolacombe bay

  • The names thing started in about 1993, which is

about when I stopped wearing football shirts as a fashion statement, I think.

  • BECKHAM- 7

The season before he buggered off. That was my last football shirt.

I also had Beckham before when he was number 10, Giggs 11 and I think that's about it.

My cousin had Butt. Ha, how we all laughed (and still do)

  • I had loads

Polster on the back of my Austrian shirt because he was the ultimate.
Foe on the back of my Lyon shirt.
Litmanen on the back of my Ajax shirt.
Rai on the back of my first PSG shirt, Simone on the second.
Savicevic on the back of my Milan shirt.
Zetterberg on the back of my Anderlecht shirt.
Nilis on the back of my PSV shirt.

    • Why would you want to own so many shirts or random teams?

      • OF

        • to be fair

everyone needs to own an Ajax shirt at some point in their lives

          • Really? I may as well be dead then.

          • ReclaimYourBrain's mum

must have spent a fortune on shirts and names on the back. from my memory they charged about 3 quid a letter!

      • Well I wouldn't I?

Some of the shirts looked ace, I guess I kind of collected them. I've never really supported a team, just liked so many.

Some of the shirts are from places I visited as a child or my dad got them, as he works in a few different countries.

I once picked up a wicked Lens shirt, it was Lime, yellow and blue.

        • "why"

          Not yet awake.

        • lime yellow and blue?

          bleurgh!
i had a newcastle away kit circa 98 (i think) that was marroon and dark blue. fucking disgusting.

    • did you get your money back

      for Foe?

    • I've drunkenly claimed to a friend of mine

that if i ever see anyone with P.Neville on the back of an England shirt, I'd eat my shoe.

      I stand by that

  • Del Piero - 10

    Wasn't replica though.

  • Roberto Baggio!

    On my Juventus top!

  • Whitmarsh 9

on the back of an old Hendon shirt. Pretty sure it's still in a drawer somewhere.

  • Kewell

  • 11 Asprilla

that all went a bit tits up

  • 10 Paul Merson

then 8 Ian Wright for a good few years
he got shunted out by 10 Bergkamp
    then 14 for Henry

  • 23 Euell

He was the new Pele don't you know...

That was the only one I got, didn't really like it on them to be honest.

  • 2 McManamans

    A Fowler and an Owen

  • Speed 11

    Batty 4

I still want to get Aranalde 3 on my Carlisle shirt even though he's gone now - just for posterity.

  • 9 Cole

Six months later he left, after that I refused to have anything on the back of any shirt!

  • 6 Pallister

    unbelievably.

  • We never wore replica kits........

on account of the fact that they were disgusting garish nylon garments emblazoned with the logos of obscure South Korean typewriter manufacturers.

  • Michael Owen

    Zidane

  • Y'know those fake

kits you get from market stalls in London/Spain etc.

    Well...

    I bought

    20 Denilson (Brazil)
    7 Figo (Barcelona) and
    6 Carlos (Real Madrid)

All in the summer of 1999. Other than that I've never had any.

Although, if we're talking goalkeeping gloves, the first pair I ever got were Reusch at Christmas 1990 with Bryan Gunn's name on the wrist strap.

    • Ndlovu (legend)

Geneaux (He left after 4 games, massive error)

Dion Dublin (Broke my heart by signing for Villa)

      • FERGUSON - 9

        Duncan, Duncan Ferguson
        Duncan, Duncan Ferguson
        Duncan, Duncan Ferguson
        Duncan, Duncan Ferguson

One of the most heroic footballers of modern time.

        • Surely if he's a hero

That makes Joey Barton one too and Lee Hughes a total facking legend.

          • Big Dunc

not once, but twice completely smashed burglars who broke into his home - the man is a legend

          • think you're a bit wrong there

Big Dunc went to jail after a couple of taxi-scuffles, a fight with a fisherman and an on-the-field altercation with John McStay. All four incidents were heavily provoked. It's doesn't excuse violence, but there was a context.

In what way is that comparable to Joey Barton - a well-known thug, generally unpleasant character and a known racist. Also, Lee Hughes cuased death by dangerous driving and then fled the scene. Surely that's very much worse unless you have a strange value system.

Also, it's well known in Liverpool that Ferguson has done more charity work within the city as a footballer than anyone else from either Everton and Liverpool. Apparently, Carragher also did a lot.

            • BIg Dunc only had one foot

              and that was his head.

  • Nakata

  • batistuta

    jaques songo'o
    alvarez

  • I only ever had my surname.

because i always had (and still do to some extent) the faith that i'll eventually one day be a pro.

  • Schmichael on keeper

    Giggs otherwise

  • .

Vieri on a 98/99 Inter Shirt
Seaman on that shocking Euro 96 kit
Seaman on 2nd choice Arsenal keepers' jersey mid-90s
someone Israeli on an Israel national kit

  • I have a great pic

of me as a kid in a green liverpool shirt with "Fowler" on the back. Cant find it!

  • i had

    Palace shirts with
    Lombardo
    Freedman
    AJ

...and a classic Milan shirt with
    George Weah

  • Beckham

    Solskjaer
    Irwin

  • um

    2- mcdermott
    11- groves

ooh, and 7- cas. this was the worst buy ever, as he got in a strop and left after about two months of the season starting.

i think i got '7- sestanovich' as well. expensive and he didn't last the season. last seen in court for his involvement in a burglary that ended up with someone dying.

  • i would've killed to have deanos name on the back of my shirt

my dad wouldn't let me get any players name's printed when i was little because he argued 'they'd be gone in a couple of seasons'. he once let me get brian little's name on the back of my villa away shirt (the horrible green/black/red one from about 95) when he took over, predicting that he would be in charge for a long time and so it was a good investment. he was gone in a couple of seasons.

    • great story

this was always my worry. what if they leave soon? given that i got a new shirt every christmas it was a bit pointless as i wouldnt wear the old one much anyway

      • /\ Trust no one in Football

My signed Gareth Barry shirt means nothing to me now :(

  • Hislop (Shaka)

    The greatest goalkeeper ever FACT!
and i had Lee Sharpe on a Leeds shirt when i was about 6. Good times

  • i was never allowed a name of the back :(

they were expensive enough as it was

  • Having had various United kits from about the age of 5...

I didn't get one until I was 12, and it was Keane...

I do remember though, my mate, who supported Arsenal, tried to put "Keown" on the back of his shirt with black electrical tape, but it ended up as "Kewon"...

  • Somewhat depressingly

    Yousef Chippo

    FAIL

  • Chelsea:

    I had -

    Gullit 4
    Flo 19
    Laudrup 7
    Ferrer 19
    Shondells 9 (my nickname)
    Makelele 4

Crowning glory was when my pal, back when we were like 16/17, came back from the sports shop with his new Chelsea top "Check it out, I got a name on the back" he exclaimed proudly. "Ok sure, lets have a look then" He pulled out his brand new home CFC shirt, turned it round and revealed 'Lambourde 7' on the reverse.

To this DAY I still don't know what possessed him...he wasn't trying to be 'funny'.

  • le tissier

    genius

  • i've had

    Huckerby
    MC (my nickname)
    Wanchope
    Anelka
    Dickov
    Ireland

    • i once saw paulo wanchope in a supermarket in spain

      he's tall

  • Sheringham

    Poyet
And my own name half the time

  • giggs 11

and beckham 7 on my england top

  • Vieri 32

    on an inter milan kit

i was obsessed with him as a youngster.

  • Merson - 10

It was out of the offical Arsenal catalogue, so the numbers had little Nike ticks at the bottom

    I also had:

    Overmars - 11
    Vieira - 4

I still every single football shirt I've ever owned. I have a drawer full of 'em, and they will NEVER LEAVE ME

    • ^ Damn right

I am passing my Villa bad boys down to future sproglings

    • I still have a lot

but some of my classics have gone to football shirt heaven - Valencia 1996-97 (with Ford sponsor) RIP

  • gary mcallister

on my old thistle hotels home shirt. Wish i still had it, i'd be like going full circle.
