Stage shakes off alcoholism: Reading and Leeds re-branded
Posted: 08 Jul '08, 17:54
With the cleaning up and rebranding of the Reading and Leeds Festival sans-rubbish dishwater alcohol, the new bands tent has gone through somewhat of a metamorphosis.
As of this year the smallest of the stages at the festival formerly known as The Carling Weekend will be called the Festival Republic Tent.
Headlining this stage will be Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip, Elliot Minor and The Kills (pictured above).
This year the Reading and Leeds Festivals will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend of 22-24. More information here.

is there going to be any more tents announced this year?
Or any more bands?
Because i'm very dissapointed if that is it, but would should i have expected.-
DiS get lazy shocker
forget to copy paste the full Festival Republic stage line-up from efestivals/reading website/their own boards
-
still left to be announced;
the Alternative stage featuring. Youthmovies and
the BBC Introducing stage.-
How is this loss of carling good for business?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining - I just don't understand how the festival's in the same financial position after losing its major backer?
Will it be that several beers will pay a smaller amount to be sold at the fest - and that, cumulatively, that will come to more money?
-
The Kills in the 'New Band' tent??????
i say again ?????
-
basically, yes
Gaymers are selling the cider. i believe Tuborg is the lager?
-
haha!
I remember Jamie Hince fronting the first band on (Scarfo) at the first Reading Festival I ever went to... I don't want to think about how long ago that was...
-
hmmmm
ok we better get some more good stuff
-
When is it ever billed as the new band tent?
Echo & the Bunnymen played it like 3 years ago for example. As well as Animal Collective in recent years, it's just the smallest tent.
-
oh man
i am gonna have the worst rotted teeth if this is true
-
it always used to be
the new bands tent. back in tut day. i am old.
-
in general it is the new bands stage
They've always made exceptions for the odd headliner etc. Even Billy Bragg also headlined this stage a few years back.
It would be silly putting an unknown band on at the same time as Metalica or Rage against the Machine as the majority of the Reading crowd would go for the big name.-
Tuborg is
Carlsberg owned I think. Can see why they'd want to get their name involved in a rival's festival.
-
*involved in
what was previously a rival's festival brand
-
yeah but the stage holds a tiny amount of people
ah fuck it i cant be arsed to argue
-
I've been waiting desperately for this stage to be announced...
And while it's not overwhelming, it's not a let down. My list of bands to see has gone from about 5 to about 20.
Phew.

Tuborg + Gaymers
Not too bad. They stock Tuborg at the Barfly.
-
Reading 1995, I was there.........
I could hardly miss the only rock star ever to emerge from Andover!
-
when mean fiddler sponsored the event
They at least had a good concept control over site layout and organisation.
Carling in my mind destroyed the festival. You may think that is a stupid statement but sponsors play a heavy hand in certain organisational and structural aspects.
I haven't seen anything new and interesting at Reading in over a decade, not since either the N64 world tour van or the (if anyone can remember the days before V) giant Virgin Free Tea Mushroom, now that was good.
oooo blackberry tea, I may have to source some now :-)

Oh My God
After last year's EXIT, I still have nightmares about Tuborg. Urgh.
