So 1993 I know but a friend uploaded me their first album which I hadn't heard for years - of course your taste develops but you never forget why you liked something in the first place, no matter how awkwardly it fits with your more 'advanced' or esoteric tastes - anyone else a fan?
The second album was rubbish.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The second album was rubbish"
FAIL.
well it wasn't as good
That's all. Shame about their bass player wasn't it? I saw them 'at' Glastonbury that year and they were as loud as MBV - for a three piece this was impressive I recall
the god machine were so good
I feel actually quite guilty for not enjoying Sophia as much, they're still great thoug. What was wrong with the second album then, eh???
'Home' is a classic
as is their version of the KLF's 'What Time Is Love'. Much missed band.
Hooray - my campaign to get 'Scenes' recognised as a modern classic gathers momentum.
Bloody hard to get hold of through the proper channels but it is an amazing album - up there with 'Spiderland' in mu opinion.
The second album is amazing, just not quite as good as 'Scenes'. It has 'Boy By the Roadside' which is probably the best song ever recorded. By anyone. ever.
i thought this was going to be about the liberty 37 album....
if anyone wants to send email/YSI me the second album
then I will be mad pleased
cos
a. I havenot heard it
b. I cannot buy it
same for fade out by Loop
while we are on the subject
Scenes from the Second Storey...
... was a truly fantastic album.
Definitely a modern classic.
I saw them play the best part of it at Reading, early 90's some time.
After that though they didn't really grab me again.
Second album was a little lack lustre, I thought.
Still better than a lot of what had ever come before but I think they set the bar too high for themselves.
remind me
what kind of stuff did they play?
They got namechecked a lot by mates but I haven't really heard anything
crushing metal riffs
'indie' clean vocals. Sometimes with orchestral accompaniment.
I saw them do that set
They were stunning. I still listen to the band to this day
'Last Laugh' was incredible too. Me and the wife almost bought a flat from the guy that signed the band to Fiction. FACT! He seemed amazed that I'd even heard of the band. Not much of a claim to fame, but it's the best I can do in this thread
dog machine
they were amazing. i cant recall them doing anything that sucked.
Second album was not rubbish
it was left unfinished and released as it was at the end of the last session with Jimmy before he died. nice gesture I thought.
i know the dude that did their sound. he LOVED it... i remember reading an article in the Melody Maker about his sound for the God Machine once... as in how did he make it so loud and powerful.
awesome band.
they were set to be
a very important band.
one last laugh... has been in my top ten of all time since I heard it. NO-ONE has ever said it's rubbish. Saw it going for £0 on eBay recently!
Aside from the songs, I think the production is timeless too.
If anyone likes the Russians, you can get both here http://musicmp3.ru/
£30
Please can their albums be re-issued
thanks
