talking heads - fear of music.

now i KNOW there is a lot of love of love for this album on here. so what is your favourite track and why?

mine - has to be animals. just 'cause the lyrics are so utterly hilarious (in a good way)

  • Life During Wartime

    maybe

  • mine's either life during wartime or

    Cities.

Cities probably, it just breezes in without you really taking much notice and leaves you tapping your feet and jiving away, his vocal delivery on it (as it is the whole album admittedly) is just ace too

  • Just listening to this in the car

    Cities - amazing bass line
    Life During Wartime
    Drugs

  • Brian Eno book

Have you read the recent Eno biog "On some faraway beach" by David Sheppard?

Quite a lot of stuff about Eno's work on this and other Talking Heads albums.

  • life

    during wartime.

    yes.

    i dont now why.

    maybe its obvious....

    who knows.

  • I LOVE DRUGS

  • I love animals too

it makes me giggle alot heheh

Heaven is a good track to.

I have to be in the right mood for the album as I think the bass sound is annoying. Its lacking somewhat for me. Its a minor gripe though, they pretty much kick ass.

    • Bass sound

I noticed the other day that the bass guitar sounds great in the car (small speakers) - very prominent.

However, it's a bit lost through larger speakers.

Possibly due to Tina Weymouth playing a short-scale Fender Mustang bass - lots of middle but no bottom?

  • MIND

is joint first with everything else.

  • Life During Wartime

    O YEAAA!

  • Heaven

I believe this song is about a gay bar in London. A fair assessment of the hereafter I think.

  • My favourite Talking Heads Lp

and contains my favourite Talking Heads song in Life During Wartime.

Like a more paranoid step-brother of Psycho-Killer, stunning.

  • god

this is maybe my favourite album in the world.

    Mind.

[also, the album i've listened to most this year, by far]

  • Fact:

    I don't like Talking Heads.

    • have you given FOM a proper chance though?

    • surprise surprise.

      anyway.

I Zimbra, Mind and Life During Wartime. Plus the live versions of Drugs on The Name Of This Band... are amazing.

      • Air?

Can't believe no one has mentioned it yet. Possibly their best song from any album, and thats quite a race to win...

        • You just did

"What is hap-pen-ning to my skin? Where is that pro-tec-tion that i nee-ded?-AAAAAAAAIRRR

          • the delivery of that line

is one of the best moments in the world.

            • Yeah,

and David Byrne is full of such moments such as that.

              Talking Heads 77'

More Songs About Buildings And Food

              Remain In Light

My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts

              Speaking In Tongues

              • My *least* fave of the big 4 TH albums

but hey so what. ANIMALS. cocaine paranoia goes that bit too far.

  • Air

or Cities. The changes in Air are amazing and Tina Weymouths vocals are so sweet and haunting.

  • Cities

i love it, it actually SOUNDS like a busy city, all whistling, buzzing and dinging along. Plus the "solo" sounds like a wasp stuck in a distortion pedal. It's great how he gets more and more agitated as the song goes on, until he's practically grunting at the end.

Animals is a close second, Hillarious.

Whole album is great though. My favourite Talking Heads album.

    • hilarious*

      oh dear.

  • the album's too good

for me to seperate one track from the rest as the best, they all compliment each other

    • 'Heaven' is excellent.

As is 'Mind'. In fact, it's all great. My favourite TH album.
