this sounds like bloc party decided to make a fucked up mess of trying to sound like them with all the loops and horns then remixed it for the most annoying dance floor ever.
jesus christ this is fucking terrible. i mean, it'd be an ok remix, and the live drums towards the end are pretty cool, and its nice that they're doing something a bit different, but GOSH this is not good
rest of the band apart from the drummer must be soooo bored.
keles vocals are even fucking programmed.
imagine this preformed live - lol.
but i do like it.
these threads that get made when something gets put online/leaked are always amazing.
brash first impressions + conflicting opinions = a good time.
reminds me of oink though :((
Silent Alarm was, for the most part, a brilliant album. A breath of fresh air at the time. This, I think, was primarily due to the visceral energy it had which was - in no small part - down to Matt Tong's absolutely stellar drumming.
The focus wasn't on the lyrics (which were pretty oblique and meaningless) and this allowed the music to shine.
Then, for some reason, Kele decided he was the next Byron and started singing about foie gras and such like. This is where it all went wrong; when Kele's ego took over and Matt's drums were pushed so low in the mix. That is why I have listened to WITC maybe 7 or 8 times and probably never will again.
I actually didn't mind Flux - decent indie disco type of tune. But I suspect this new one is a piece of pap.
Disappointing is an understatement for this song. How can they do this, after fucking Silent Alarm how could they fuck up this bad and become forgettable and typical of the usual indie crap pop / dance.
When the quick drumming comes in at 3.00 or so it starts to sound quite good... then nothing happens and it's not expanded upon to anyway to be either epic or a good dance track. Just... disappointing.
e.g. So Here We Are and its wanky little sensitive guitar shapes underpinning Kele's pointless moaning
This song has a heavy beat (which gets better and better as the song goes on - congas ferchrissakes!), some badass synth bass and some really great horn melodies (even if they are cribbed off Volta) as well as a near free jazz horn solo - if it goes on to get massive airplay on Radio 1 then that's a Good Thing. I'm sure it'll probably get lots of noobs saying "what is this noise" etc.
Of course, the lyrics are completely jank (what's new there, eh?), but i find the whole Mercury bit fairly pleasing. His voice is still terrible but it kind of works, and you get the impression that he's not actually taking it too seriously (which is definitely a Good Thing for BP). Although knowing Kele, it probably is played totally straight - in which case it's amusing, rather than earnest and annoying
I have only played it once all the way thru. It was just annoying I will give it another go soon mind. It has that Prayer vibe to it but not as focused. Fair play to them for trying something new and out of the blue but I just dont think they pulled it off.
and a fair bit of cribbage, but i think it all works pretty well considering the disparate parts. And i'd rather it was slightly loopy and stupid than "focussed" (aka normal)
i'm still not totally crazy about it, obvz (tis Bloc Party, after all). But it's actually "quite good". And the slating it's had on here is predictable, to say the least
when flux came out kele made a point of saying that their next album would sound nothing like flux and that it was more of a one off thing.
so, obviously that wasn't true.
they just need to stop making songs for the 'dancefloor' and go back to making the type of music they're quite obviously brilliant at doing.
im all up for a band developing their sound and whatnot.
but they just dont seem to be getting anywhere down their current route.
not for me anyway
when people talk about dated 00s production, they'll cite Bloc Party and Mark Ronson as examples. This is...despicable. I mean, Flux was alright after a few whiskeys, but this is...it's nothing, really.
..Kele was like "ah this is so different and such a departure", then when everyone went "no, its just shit", he was like "ah we needed to get it out of our systems"...
same thing, "he'll be like oh its so wierd", give it 2 months he'll be backtracking, oh yeah...
a second! Actually quite njoyed this on first listen...ans Silent Alarm is one of my favourites of all tiiiime... Am pretty sure that the rest of the album wont sound like this either...
Its not awesome but its an ok song. Its better than their usual stuff. They've always came across as a band with ambitions, but not the talent to match. When it starts with the vocals I thought it was horrible but by the time it finished I thought it was ok. Sounds like cross between Radiohead and TV on the Radio, but not as good as either.
I've never been a fan of Bloc Party in the past as frankly I've found the majority of what they've done to be pretty bland and boring (though Pioneers is an amazing song) but the last couple of singles I've been impressed that they're trying to something different.
I quite liked Mercury on first listen. It's not gonna be to everyone's taste and ultimately any period of experimentation is going to have its patchy moments as you need to make mistakes in order to work out how to pgress but all in all I think it bodes well for the fact they're not gonna stand still and could well do some extremely interesting stuff in the future.
more that it was pushing the boundaries of what you'd expect Bloc Party to do. Which might not be splitting the atom but is at least more than most bands are prepared to do once they reach Bloc Party's level of success.
The Prayer... with the same drums and structure. Perhaps with a little Late of the Pier added in and some weird other stuff that wouldn't sound out of place on a Gwen Stefani track?
I thought, this is pretty cool, nice and loud and in your face, good good. Then, TWO MINUTES 44 SECONDS this disgusting mis-mash of crap comes through. Kele's voice sounds like tripe, eurggghhh. Que the "little high vocal bit" to try and bring it back, only for them to put in this ridiculous trumpet scaling. Ending in an absolute shambles.
I think if it was a minute shorter it would have been acceptable. Pretty fucking bland, but listenable and, dare i say, dancable. The ending almost made me sick.
i love bloc party.. well i used to but this is awful.. sure be experimental but in your attempts to not be main stream and commercial dont just go shit on us
mercury gets better after a few listens.
it will be terrible played live.
i hope to god that the new album will show a return to the 'so here we are' tunes.
mercury has been used as the in-between-album single because it will get people talking (publicity)
Fuck knows what Kele's on about but I dare you deny that this tune lacks groove. It's so much better than Flux, an obvious departure from their usual staple of guitar driven tracks but as some mentioned earlier I'm not sure if it will translate as a live performance but this is as good as anything off of a Weekend In The City. At least that's what I reckon feel free to dissmiss.
about 2 minutes in it's pretty awesome, but it does annoy me that kele probably thinks he's being subversive by making a song like this, when its just "4 minutes to save the world" with indie singing.
also, what is the rest of the band doing??
but i can't imagine what they're going to do with this one.
also, they can throw break beats and horns all they want, it doesn't have the charisma of rap and r&b. it's alright though
i thought it'd be terrible, but its not.
not as good as flux but then the radio edit of that was rubbish compared to the 12" mix so im hoping for more of the same with this.
... the cut-up vox on the choruses coupled with the evil sounding synth bass sounds pretty sweet, it's just a fucking shame I have to listen to the rest of the song to get to those parts.
Speaking to Lowe about 'Mercury', frontman Kele Okereke said: "It's a song we finished a little while ago that we're really proud of so we thought we'd let everyone hear it. I'm still somewhat in awe."
but it's grown on me. MUCH better than Flux, which still reminds me of Cher when listening to it. Also shows they're trying new stuff, which is never a bad thing, especially with a band of their profile, who could just keep churning out Silent Alarm again and again.
The dreaded morning listen. I've done that so many times...gone to bed thinking I've written the greatest song of the 21st century then listened to it in the morning and felt my heart sink.
is these days you really dont know what their new / next material is gonna sound like. which is pretty rare and exciting in itself, especially for a band of their size.
on first listen of Mercury... diggin the horns, not sure about some of the messed around vocals at some point though
and i'm pretty surprised, having read all this first...
it has a great beat, matt is obviously all over it. the synth is brilliant. the horns work really well. and the vocals are as good as most bloc party vocals.
pshhh.
anyway, since the prayer everything they've done has grown on me. i hated it for a few weeks, now i like it. same with flux.
it's just not very good, it's kind of boring and annoying and it seems like they're trying too hard. Silent Alarm had little nuances in it, this is just....brash and dull
seems fair. There's a certain lack of soul and flair in this, and a lot of the last album too. Quite a lot of 'A Weekend In The City' was really good though, so if the new album's a mixed bag, at least we can expect some of it to be decent enough.
Whether "decent enough" is what the World needs more of is, of course, another thread entirely...
I think this is quite a good tune. The lyrics are rather irritating though. Woah betide them for trying something new. They were never going to match Silent Alarm, so why does everyone expect them to try?
So the big countdown thing on their website was for this?
what pack of pretentious bastards.
why is that pretentious?
also. what the fuck is this?
a
new song?
well, yes.
But it's a massive "what the fuck is this?"
TING-A-LING!
oh no they have managed
to get worse :(
I'd rather listen to cherry blairon richard and judy than this song
thats what my sis just said she wants it turned off, butim only gona turn it off when the guitar comes in.
its well crunk
hmmm
not up to much is it
lovin
the synth in what i guess is the 'chorus' though like.
its too sparse overall though, just sounds like a remix, cant think how they'll do it live.
it sounds like a messed up
TV on the Radio tune but obviously alot worse in every way possible
take it back
I like TV on the Radio
this sounds like bloc party decided to make a fucked up mess of trying to sound like them with all the loops and horns then remixed it for the most annoying dance floor ever.
fair enough i guess
i suppose you could compare the bassy-ness and stuff but it is just a pile of shit.
yeah didnt mean to be mean
about TVotR hehe they rule!
it's awful
THE FUCK IS THIS??!£!@£
what's with the horns? did they get ronson'd?
they are fucking so shit. awful song.
the most annoying song yet
very disapointed
^ this
they used to be a good band
"my mercury's in retrograde"
what does that even mean?
HE DOESN'T LIKE CHOCOLATE
I really like it
not suprised that all you miserable tossers on here hate it though
THE PRICE OF GAS
KEEPS ON RISING
east london is a vampire
and he's trying to be
heroic in an age of modernity. simple.
Aren't we all though
personally I enjoy doing it whilst sitting in Soho trying to stay drunk
Or sleeping with people
we don't even LIKE!
I'll be waiting for you
in the Joiners Arms
its an astrology thing isnt it
jesus christ this is fucking terrible. i mean, it'd be an ok remix, and the live drums towards the end are pretty cool, and its nice that they're doing something a bit different, but GOSH this is not good
I assume he is talking about
http://www.glossary.oilfield.slb.com/Display.cfm?Term=retrograde%20condensation
Which is hilarious as it is something I was doing in work today.
why the fuck would it be about that ?
It's basically to do with the position of the planet Mercury in the sky.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retrograde_and_direct_motion
But presumably it's a reference to the stupid astrology bit at the bottom.
Fucking stupid lyric though.
I thought it was "Retro grave"
?
the
rest of the band apart from the drummer must be soooo bored.
keles vocals are even fucking programmed.
imagine this preformed live - lol.
but i do like it.
plus
these threads that get made when something gets put online/leaked are always amazing.
brash first impressions + conflicting opinions = a good time.
reminds me of oink though :((
There's no guitar?
Wow
What a heap of shit.
It sounds like they've listened to Bjork's 'Volta' and raped it while it slept.
i love bloc party
and was even a big fan of AWITC, but i do agree... this song sounds pretty damn bad in my opinion.
it's quite depressing, bands should progress and move on but i miss the times of silent alarm alot after listening to this song.
I concur
This song makes me sad.
I've just listened to it...
But I'm not sure what I've just heard.
I don't know what to think.
:(
Lol. That's what I mean,
It's left me feeling confused!
Oh dear
Where's the taught riffs, dudes!?
Little bit disapointed
I liked Flux and loved AWITC.
:(
I do like the synth on the chorus though.
I still have high hopes for the album.
In fact....
after 3 plays it is growing on me.
I'll listen to it but it's not the Bloc Party sound I'm after.
Hmm.
Pretty rubbish. Not sure I like it at all. Trying to hard to sound different. Go back to angular guitar riffs lads, that where the future lies.
Matt Tong
should just join another fucking band were he's used to his full advantage, instead of sticking him on the high hat. Fucking Kele!
What
are Mercury's in retro grey anyway, is it a type of shoe?
This
Fuck
That link isn't leading anywhere productive. Any tips on where I can hear this?
Apparently
'Mercury in Retrograde' has something to do with astrology, wtf is he on? lol
Crazy Bitch.
^This
I can't hear it coz the link isn't working just now
But I'll assume it is shit.
Silent Alarm was, for the most part, a brilliant album. A breath of fresh air at the time. This, I think, was primarily due to the visceral energy it had which was - in no small part - down to Matt Tong's absolutely stellar drumming.

I actually didn't mind Flux - decent indie disco type of tune. But I suspect this new one is a piece of pap.
^ this
except for the bit about Flux, that was shit
Yeah
I just listened to it again there.
It is shit.
You've pretty much nailed it,
without even listening, impressive.
looks
like they've taken it down.
I don't know why it's there anyway.
It would have been cooler if it was just played on the show. Then put up after.
Yeah
they have, maybe it's before anybody else hears it and Bloc Party fans abandon them for good.
i have
my window still up, so i can hear it.
gutted, you!!!!
...oh, no. wait.
ITS ON NOW!
W....T.....F is this shit?
I just heard it.
Well, it's different...
I don't mind it...I really like the mad bit with crazy strings just before the break down actually.
EXCEPT
His voice does my tits in. What a wanker he sounds like.
yeah
I liked the music, but his voice doesn't suit it at all and the lyrics (from what I picked out) seemed....well, crap.
Well,
I say like....
That was absolutely terrible.
No redeeming features whatsoever.
But all the people listening
on Radio One LOVED it!
yeah!
it was ill, dude.
That doesn't surprise me.....
What
did Zane Lowe say about it?
Unsurprisingly
he came all over its face.
Lol
thought as much.
he speaks too fast
I don't understand what he's saying.
Oooh
He's playing Death Cab now so all is forgiven!
blah blah blah
looks how brown my tongue is..etc..etc...
He is a slimy cunt at the best of times. Love You Zane <3 xXx
Surely there's somewhere on the internet I can hear this?
.
http://www.blocparty.com/videos.php
The player has no controls, ew.
?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/zanelowe/
That plays it.
Disappointing is an understatement for this song. How can they do this, after fucking Silent Alarm how could they fuck up this bad and become forgettable and typical of the usual indie crap pop / dance.
this is like the musical equivilent
of that simpsons episode where Poochie makes his debut appearance on Itchy and Scratchy..what with everyone thinking it's utter shit with disbelief.
This song doesn't go anywhere, and as said above, no redeemable features.
Next please.
Actually
When the quick drumming comes in at 3.00 or so it starts to sound quite good... then nothing happens and it's not expanded upon to anyway to be either epic or a good dance track. Just... disappointing.
compare this to
this modern love.
what happened?
thumbs down
i quite like it
but i did fear they would eventually make every song like flux
LOL @ 3.10
marching band tune gone horribly wrong -
it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for his bloody awful voice tho
my mercury's in retrograde=I have a thermometer up my ass
what the hell is wrong with you people?
this is the best thing they've ever done
If that's not sarcasm, you're mad.
Every song of the first 2 albums is better than this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLgoI_73ZTU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KMIjQtAEUM
Just comparing So Here We Are's amazing guitar to Mercury is completely depressing with how bad their new material is so far.
before they were face-gnawingly earnest and irritating
*robot voice* REE-TTRRO-GRAADE
All the sounds are good
they are just in the wrong places, key and order.
I WOULD DISAGREE
fair doos
I have only played it once all the way thru. It was just annoying I will give it another go soon mind. It has that Prayer vibe to it but not as focused. Fair play to them for trying something new and out of the blue but I just dont think they pulled it off.
it does have a kitchen sink mentality
and a fair bit of cribbage, but i think it all works pretty well considering the disparate parts. And i'd rather it was slightly loopy and stupid than "focussed" (aka normal)
i'm still not totally crazy about it, obvz (tis Bloc Party, after all). But it's actually "quite good". And the slating it's had on here is predictable, to say the least
sure it was bound to get a kicking
I like them myself and happily listen to both their albums.
It might grow on me but right now I'm not sure. First impressions are not promising.
you wrote
noobs. LOL.
Fucking mental
Also kind of amazing because it's so mental and all over the place. I like the horns and grime-y vibe. Terrible chorus thing though.
from what i remember
when flux came out kele made a point of saying that their next album would sound nothing like flux and that it was more of a one off thing.
so, obviously that wasn't true.
they just need to stop making songs for the 'dancefloor' and go back to making the type of music they're quite obviously brilliant at doing.
im all up for a band developing their sound and whatnot.
but they just dont seem to be getting anywhere down their current route.
not for me anyway
In years to come
when people talk about dated 00s production, they'll cite Bloc Party and Mark Ronson as examples. This is...despicable. I mean, Flux was alright after a few whiskeys, but this is...it's nothing, really.
weird
intersting horns and noises, some of it sounds like it should be in heavily cgi'd action thriller though.
i dont like it.
haha
I historically really dislike this band but this track is actually really fucking good - whodathoughit??
Loving
the horns at end too :)
I'm realy impressed
its a bit different.
Doubt the rest of the album will be anything like it though.
I honestly, honestly
want to like this, but his voice sounds terrible!
I cant even see this getting played in clubs and the like, its just too...headache-y?
The bit where the other drums come in redeem it a bit, but yeh, first bloc party song i've ever had doubts about, which is a bit strange!
Quite liked it.
Mind you, I think Flux is by far and away the best thing they've ever done, first two albums did nothing for me.
When Flux came out...
..Kele was like "ah this is so different and such a departure", then when everyone went "no, its just shit", he was like "ah we needed to get it out of our systems"...
same thing, "he'll be like oh its so wierd", give it 2 months he'll be backtracking, oh yeah...
Did anyone notice this as well?
http://blocparty.sandbag.uk.com/Store/DII-69-2-disc+set+and+membership.html
A "Mercury" discbox, eh?
I knew this would be slated in
a second! Actually quite njoyed this on first listen...ans Silent Alarm is one of my favourites of all tiiiime... Am pretty sure that the rest of the album wont sound like this either...
I think its not bad
Its not awesome but its an ok song. Its better than their usual stuff. They've always came across as a band with ambitions, but not the talent to match. When it starts with the vocals I thought it was horrible but by the time it finished I thought it was ok. Sounds like cross between Radiohead and TV on the Radio, but not as good as either.
I agree
The start is fucking awful, but by the end I did start to feel guilty because I was enjoying it.... I hate that electronic vocal thing though.
This is...
baffling. I'm kinda leaning towards the "i like it" side though. 2 listens.
Vocals are too
high in the mix for me. I quite like the music but there is a bit of GNVQ in Sound Design about it. Interesting
the 12" has a instrumental on it
that version might be alright
Kudos to 'em for trying something different.
I've never been a fan of Bloc Party in the past as frankly I've found the majority of what they've done to be pretty bland and boring (though Pioneers is an amazing song) but the last couple of singles I've been impressed that they're trying to something different.
I quite liked Mercury on first listen. It's not gonna be to everyone's taste and ultimately any period of experimentation is going to have its patchy moments as you need to make mistakes in order to work out how to pgress but all in all I think it bodes well for the fact they're not gonna stand still and could well do some extremely interesting stuff in the future.
the aint pushing many boundrys really
have you not heard much dance/hiphop/techno/electro music in the last 20 years?
I didn't mean to imply it was pushing musical boundaries
more that it was pushing the boundaries of what you'd expect Bloc Party to do. Which might not be splitting the atom but is at least more than most bands are prepared to do once they reach Bloc Party's level of success.
abh yes sorry I missundestood
your right about that yep yep yep
That said it's a shame he's still such a clumsy lyricist...
yeah it really is
it wasnt so noticable on the first album but by the second it was just embarasing in places :(
i noticed
big time
i really, really like it
after several uncomfortable listens.
fucking chuck norris
oh wait i mean...
fucking paul epworth
Is it an Epworth production?
someone said the other day they had Jackknife on board for it too? So it could be either or both eeeeeeek!
its both ^^
.
After listening to it some more
I just....I dunno, its just so all over the place and filled with half-baked ideas. It just doesn't feel like a song, let alone a good song.
I'm all for bands experimenting (indeed I encourage it!) but this just seems to be experimentation for experimentation's sake.
The
more I listen to it, the more I think I like it.
I think this might be because I love Bloc Party alot and I dont want to admit that it might be terrible.
But yes as someone said previously if there putting horns I'd just rather listen to TV on the Radio.
Lol Foals must be even more annoyed with Bloc Party comparisons now there using horns aswell.
Thanks David Sitek!
Is it just me or is anyone else listening and hearing....
The Prayer... with the same drums and structure. Perhaps with a little Late of the Pier added in and some weird other stuff that wouldn't sound out of place on a Gwen Stefani track?
OK, first listen...
Mercury = penis
retrograde = another man
what the hell
i love bloc party.. well i used to but this is awful.. sure be experimental but in your attempts to not be main stream and commercial dont just go shit on us
phew..
my streaming was interrupted after 57 seconds and i couldn't get it back.
thank god, that was fucking awful.
Absolute dogshit
Like everything they've ever done.
heres the truth
mercury gets better after a few listens.
it will be terrible played live.
i hope to god that the new album will show a return to the 'so here we are' tunes.
mercury has been used as the in-between-album single because it will get people talking (publicity)
the new album will make me moist.
The production values are great
Fuck knows what Kele's on about but I dare you deny that this tune lacks groove. It's so much better than Flux, an obvious departure from their usual staple of guitar driven tracks but as some mentioned earlier I'm not sure if it will translate as a live performance but this is as good as anything off of a Weekend In The City. At least that's what I reckon feel free to dissmiss.
it's alright
about 2 minutes in it's pretty awesome, but it does annoy me that kele probably thinks he's being subversive by making a song like this, when its just "4 minutes to save the world" with indie singing.
also, what is the rest of the band doing??
There is NO guitar!
I doubt they'll play this live?
the live version of the prayer was really good
but i can't imagine what they're going to do with this one.
also, they can throw break beats and horns all they want, it doesn't have the charisma of rap and r&b. it's alright though
after the comments
i thought it'd be terrible, but its not.
not as good as flux but then the radio edit of that was rubbish compared to the 12" mix so im hoping for more of the same with this.
SOUNDS LIKE
A SHIT REMIX OF A SHIT SONG.
if someone was rapping over this
it would be about 50 times better
1st Listen
It sounds like Kosheen.
This isn't a good thing.
EXACTLY
.
I like it
The only reason people who usually like Bloc Party don't like it is they have rubbish taste in music.
It's shit
I dont understand how people can like it? Surely anyone can spew out a song like that given 10 minutes.
go on then
please
I will!
just give me ten minutes. They'll be no vocals though. And can someone tell me a way of uploading songs to from garageband to the net?
If anyones interested I've written it
just needs some fine touches and for someone to tell me how to upload the bugger!
mediafire
yousendit, zshare, whatever... come on, just do it! i can't wait.
I've made it
shall I start a new thread? I realy don't know if anyones interested enough.
im waiting
i think its been more than 10minutes..
well...
... the cut-up vox on the choruses coupled with the evil sounding synth bass sounds pretty sweet, it's just a fucking shame I have to listen to the rest of the song to get to those parts.
wu.
Speaking to Lowe about 'Mercury', frontman Kele Okereke said: "It's a song we finished a little while ago that we're really proud of so we thought we'd let everyone hear it. I'm still somewhat in awe."
awe?
I was going to say
that it's utter toss. But then I'm not really adding much to the discussion.
It sounds like an April fool's joke record.
Thought it was horrible the first time I listened to it,
but it's grown on me. MUCH better than Flux, which still reminds me of Cher when listening to it. Also shows they're trying new stuff, which is never a bad thing, especially with a band of their profile, who could just keep churning out Silent Alarm again and again.
The vocals ruin it.
I rather like the horns and drums and synths.
this sounds like a song i would write
then listen to it in the morning and chuck it across the room.
it's shite.
Haha.
The dreaded morning listen. I've done that so many times...gone to bed thinking I've written the greatest song of the 21st century then listened to it in the morning and felt my heart sink.
Clearly, Bloc Party is an important band
Judging by the turnout on this thread.
Haven't heard this new song, didn't like "weekend in the city"- much too whiny but "helicopter" makes them gods forever.
one thing about Bloc Party
is these days you really dont know what their new / next material is gonna sound like. which is pretty rare and exciting in itself, especially for a band of their size.
on first listen of Mercury... diggin the horns, not sure about some of the messed around vocals at some point though

it has a great beat, matt is obviously all over it. the synth is brilliant. the horns work really well. and the vocals are as good as most bloc party vocals.
pshhh.
anyway, since the prayer everything they've done has grown on me. i hated it for a few weeks, now i like it. same with flux.
i don't mind it
but they've obviously been listening to too much kid A.
the video is horrible though..
It's disappointing,
but in the 20 minutes I've had to get over it and reflect, so was The Prayer.
I seriously doubt they'll ever top Silent Alarm though. You can't replicate or feign enthusiasm, youth and abandon.
by which I mean
youth as a state of mind, man. As opposed to being a grumpy put-upon woe-is-me bastard, way before your time.
According to the Grauniad
It's an odd thing to realise that the darker bits of 2008 dance-punk are really just an update on Massive Attack's Mezzanine."
Well, given Mezzanine's open primary influence was GO4/Pop Group/Slits dark dance-punk, not really.
I can't wait to see this as I am a total fangirl
but when they said 'this is the sound that we have always wanted to do' raises my concern.
I'll listen when I get home.
oh dear...embarrasing innit
what the fuck are the rest of the band doing letting him get away with those lyrics!
Idiotequeish?
Quality drumming. I quite like it.
most annoying thing
wheres the bloody guitars?
kele's lyrics seem to be getting worse :/
This is mental
I think I like it. Even though the robot voice reminds me of Rudebox.
If I was dancing in a club and this came on I would make a two finger gesture near my mouth
and mouth the word 'fag'.
I dont mean it as a double entendre.
so...
...you mean it like "i'm a fucking moron"?
It's excellent
More of this please
(and it has the added bonus of pissing off all the earless deadbeats who don't like music)
* Non-Kosheen fans
its just a bit boring isnt it?
and the lyrics are shit
my mercurys in retrograde.
sounds both annoying, and doesnt make sense, and shows kele just looked for a big word in the dictionary to look intellectual.
funkymp
why does it HAVE to have guitars?
However retrograde his mercury is,
its nowhere near as retrograde as his songwriting ability.
it makes perfect sense
the fact that you're not familiar with the phrase doesnt mean its nonsensical. what it is, is bollocks.
what an overwhelming
"MEH"
it's just not very good, it's kind of boring and annoying and it seems like they're trying too hard. Silent Alarm had little nuances in it, this is just....brash and dull
core
not really very good is it... lets be honest.
"Brash and dull"
seems fair. There's a certain lack of soul and flair in this, and a lot of the last album too. Quite a lot of 'A Weekend In The City' was really good though, so if the new album's a mixed bag, at least we can expect some of it to be decent enough.
Whether "decent enough" is what the World needs more of is, of course, another thread entirely...
the video
pretty funny non? Assuming it's meant to be funny. I laughed.
i like it
i think its good
That was BAD.
Cool, I get to bump this
Cue a heap more overreaction.
I think this is quite a good tune. The lyrics are rather irritating though. Woah betide them for trying something new. They were never going to match Silent Alarm, so why does everyone expect them to try?
File next to The Prayer. It'll do well.
