this thread is for "LOOOKEE ME IM'A diffrunt"

I got Harvest, Harvest moon and after the goldrush by Neil Young and so far have only really been able to get into Harvest Moon, despite everyone else saying the other two are better. Though I suppose they're all meant to be good so whatever.

And I think Acrobatic Tenement is at the drive in's best album.

the great escape by blur

widely derided; not in our house

this

i like all of them though.

The Great Escape -

a wonderful album. Fo' Sho', Jo' Fo'.

+1

ACROBATIC TENEMENT!!!????

It sounds like it was recorded in a shoebox!

Yeah.

It's brilliant.

all the niel you mentioned are superb

but After the Gold Rush and Harvest are better that H-Moon.

Yeah

that was my point.

For me it is the appalling opinion that Mr Beast

is the best Mogwai album. That was until I listned to CODY and EP+6. Now I know how foolish I was.

hmm i get the idea

but i'm gonna be difficult, a lot of the time.. if i have a favourite band/artist, i'm going to generaly enjoy more than one album of this performer, hence everything but their best wouldn't be.. if you see what i mean.

thus; Neon Bible.

Antics

I was listening to this the other day and decided it might just be my favourite. Everyone loves the Turn On The Bright Lights obviously, and the most recent was reviewed in the main as a 'return to form' if I remember rightly, why no love for this? Some really wonderful work and probably at their strongest lyrically too, I feel.

Yes, Antics.

not my fav

but i like make believe - weezer... well some of it

For ages

I thought "Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant" was Belle and Sebastian's best album. I was wrong, though it does still have my favourite B&S song on it.

I also think "Let It Come Down" is the best thing Jason Pierce has ever put his name to.

Almost agree with you on Fold Your Hands there:

Not my favourite B&S album by any means, but it's a lot better than received opinion holds. If anything, it's only real problem is that it tries to do too much: the shift from The Wrong Girl to The Chalet Lines is baffiling to this day. Some of my favourite B&S songs come from that album: The Model, There's Too Much Love, Don't Leave The Light On, Waiting For The Moon To Rise and, of course, the mighty I Fought In A War...Nice Day For A Sulk isn't much cop though, I will admit.

On a similar note, I've always been pretty fond of Winchester Cathedral by Clinic. Again, certainly not their best album, but it still stands up quite well: Falstaff is, for my money, the definitive Clinic ballad - pisses all over Distortions.

I love a lot of the songs on Fold Your Hands

But it just doesn't work as an album. Same can be said for Boy with the Arab STrap, to some extent.

I even like Nice Day for a Sulk, but Beyond the Sunrise is surely the shittest thing they've ever put their name to.

I once made a tape with the best songs from Fold Your Hands, Boy with the Arab Strap and Storytelling on it. It was fucking brilliant.

Pure Phase all the way

It's my favourite Spiritualized album, and miles away from Ladies and Gentlemen, Let it Come Down, and the rest.

beck

midnite vultures
i love it

This is my favourite Beck record too.

I METCHOO...AT JAY-CEE-PENNAYYYYYY
I THINK YER NAMETAAAAG...SAID JENNAYYYYYY

just listening to this...

...its my favourite Beck record too. Sounds like Prince which is probably why i like it so much.

this is the correct opinion

of all proper people

+1

The Rising Tide - Sunny Day Real Estate

Everyone hates it. Except me. One of my favourite albums.

Yes...

...I agree ^

That was supposed...

...to be under Yo La Tengo! Fool!

"Through The Past Darkly"

somehow this greatest hits Stones record is my favorite one of theirs.

Razor's Edge by AC/DC

I listen to that one the most

Jesus and Mary Chain

'Psychocandy' is, by common consent, their best - but 'Honey's Dead' has better songs on it. Pyschocandy is more groundbreaking and really shook things up when it came out by Honey's Dead is the one I'd take to a desert island.

"Black Market Clash"

my fav clash

"Anything"

my favorite Damned

Aural Sculpture

my favorite Stranglers

I could go on like this all day

I generally like the mutts

'Wish'

is as good as 'Disintegration' in my book.

i agree.

Any album that has a song like 'To Wish Impossible Things' is fine by me

Faith

Is my favourite cure album, way better than pornography or disintegration.

midnite vultures

I COULD STEP YO YOU
WITH A FRESH PACK GUM

Teenage Fanclub - A Catholic Education

Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever (as mentioned on another thread by someone)
Led Zep 1
Neil Young - Greendale

mine

Beck - Sea Change
Futureheads - News & Tributes

Placebo

Meds

is an absolutely fantastic album.

Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix

Sonic Youth - Murray Street
Pavement - Brighten the Corners
Blur - Think Tank
Elbow - Cast of Thousands
Jetplane Landing - Zero for Conduct

the

TF, SY and P suggestions are hardly silly.

Well no

but they're not 'commonly regarded as their best' either are they?

That's be:

Bandwagonesque
Daydream Nation
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain

srsly

don't know how anyone puts Bandwagonesque in front of Songs From Northern Britain or Grand Prix

or how Daydream Nation gets put ahead of Sonic Nurse

I thought Grand Prix

was generally considered their best?

Touche.

In any case, it's a fantastic album.

13

I really like and that is rarely considered one of TFC best

Descendents

i prefer Everything Sucks (perfect) to Milo Goes to College (almost perfect)

me too

I prefer Everything Sucks.

Led Zep

III

yes

yes yes yes

aye!

deffo

This Is Hardcore

I realised I had 6 of its songs on my favourite tracks playlist.

Its great.

RATM

Battle of Los Angeles. At the time, not loved. But I still liked it.

Dude, clearly their least good album

'Evil Empire' though, while much-derided, is killer

This /\

Is pretty much what i was going to say. I love the other two albums but keep going back to Evil Empire.

i liked worlds apart

by ..trail fo dead that others had a problem with

teenage fanclub grand prix..like someone mentions below

blue jesus lizard

Fullerov

Bloc Party: A Weekend In The City
Afghan Whigs: 1965
Bright Eyes: Digital Ash...
Elliott Smith: From A Basement...

a few...

i much prefer howdy! and grand prix by teenage fanclub to bandwagonesque.

agree with they person who preferred honeys dead to pyschocandy

and black sheep boy is my least favourite okkervil river album despite it being generally considered buy critics to be their best. i much prefer all the other ones, black sheep boy has a few songs on it that i get a little bit bored by.

although i love

SFNB, Grand Prix and Bandwagonesque, i find Howdy! really lacking in tuneage.

i prefer Darklands to Pyschocandy as well.

R.E.M - Up

THE best REM album.

Also Maladroit by Weezer is OK.

^up seconded

not the best r.e.m. album, but a very fine one indeed and nowhere near as bad as ANYONE would have you believe.

REM wise

would go for New Adventures in Hi Fi.

all the way for me.

Pulp - We Love Life

I must have listened to that more than any other album ever, not sure why, but it's glorious.

It also had the added bonus of getting me into Scott Walker (he produced it, I decided to find out who he was, realised he was my favourite thing ever).

Also, another vote for Let It Come Down by Spiritualized. I saw them on that tour, got down the front, and now I'm half deaf in my left ear.

Also, I find Be Here Now strangely listenable, when the mood takes me.

Ben Folds Five- 1st album

over 'Whatever and Ever Amen' any day of the week. It seems that people favour it for some reason.

Whatever and Ever Amen

is my favourite album ever. The debut is merely in my top ten.

Rockin' the Suburbs

is Ben Folds career highlight, in my opinion. Is that controversial?

We Love Life

is incredible. Definitely the best Pulp album.

I'm with you on Be Here Now

the only Oasis album I find at all listenable.

Kingsize by Boo Radleys

Monumental record. When will they reform? Come on Carr, get your arse in gear!

Also Strangeways by The Smiths. Much more varied than either Meat is murder or the Queen is Dead, and with better songwriting too (and no Some Girls Are BiggerThan Others).

^^^^^^

(regarding the Boo Radleys)

They really should reform for a bit.

i love

Takk by Sigur Ros. OK, hoppipolla is completly overused by the bbc but the rest of the album is 10/10 in my opinion

Pablo Honey- Radiohead

Only joking.

yeah I love takk

really don't understand why everyone hates it... Oh wait, I COMPLETELY understand why people hate it, and you've said it already.

surely

Takk is a perfect record?

no

( ) is a perfect record

....

but overall Takk is a 9.9. its just very annoying for every scene of natural beauty on a bbc program to use hoppipolla. I know this really shouldn't take anything away from the album but it does.

I think I prefer Takk to ( ),

The first four songs from ( ) are amazing, but the darker last 4 songs aren't my cup of tea so much.

Whereas I like all the songs from Takk. I agree that BBC have overplayed that one song off the album though.

Have you seen Heima? The performance where they do the last song from Takk is stunning.

takk

is better, but only becasue Saeglpur is a perfect perfect PERFECT song.

A Northern Soul

is by far the best Verve record.

Beck - Sea Change

Mogwai - Come on Die Young

i vote for.....

radiohead - hail to the thief. it's probably got the best opening and closing songs on an album ever. my favourite after kid a.

honorable mention to fold your hands child and let it come down, 'cos they were mentioned already.

The Bends

is better than OK Computer.A far more exciting record but the slow songs give it the right mixture.

In Rainbows better than Kid A

then; Kid A, HTTT, Amnesiac, OK Computer, The Bends

Nu Clear Sounds - Ash

Everyone hates it but I quite like it!

^ Yes

I din't like the one after, or 1977 particularly.

Although the best Ash album is the singles collection.

adrenaline

has always been my favourite deftones album
