Anyone got any?

I heard he was making a new album, a sort of official follow up to Insignificance, but i just don't know. Surely someone knows if this is true or not.

I'm listening to Halfway To A Threeway right now and, quite simply, it's the best EP ever made :)

i want to know more about Jim O'Rourke

all i know is he played in SY for a while, and does some producing

what's his stuff like?

name some great albums he's produced?

TELL ME MOAR

Halfway to a Threeway EP, Insignificance and Eureka

are all amazing. I think Insignificance is in my top 3 albums.

I'd kill a man to see Jim O'Rourke performing any of that stuff live.

will investigate further

thnx

what does his stuff sound like?

noisey? indie? sy-y?

.

one of the gods of music.

Varied...

Insigificance and Eureka are his 'indie-rock' records and are prime examples of the best of the genre.

Quite often his stuff is hyper experimental though, with collabs with other likeminded artists.

I'd recommend his work as Loose Fur with Jeff Tweedy and Glenn Kotche from Wilco. The second album "Born Again In the USA" is mega underrated.

He's essentially an incredible folk-guitarist

with a sort of wacked out indie pop sensibility and the occasional rocktageous moment too. As well as a noise artist and just general god amongst men.

Every record is different, but yeah, the big three are Eureka, Insignificance and Halfway To A Threeway. All genius.

he did a fantastic job 'producing'/mixing

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco

yeah that's the main one i know about

he's on the dvd briefly.

Halfway is indeed a fine EP

I love 'Not Sport, Martial Art'

Insignificance was an enjoyable enough listen too, The cover artwork was just plain creepy though.

I might actually try and dig out Halfway to a Threeway later.

A few things

Mostly re-issued stuff. He's also working on a new Sonic Youth collaboration, but as far as his own solo stuff, I haven't heard anything in ages. He was apparently working on a film as well. And yes, Halfway to a Threeway is the best EP ever. EVER.

SYR8 is out soon

Featuring Jim O'Rourke AND MERZBOW.
Oh my lord.

July 28th

Improv FTW :D

So i guess

nobody in the know regarding a rumoured new album then?

Maybe i read it on pitchfork.. hmm..

Only

just discovering him as a solo artist, outside Loose Fur and Wilco. You can definitely hear his influence in Jeff Tweedy's stuff. Bad Timing and Eureka are both great.

He's done loads of albums

He was well known as an avant garde artist before he started releasing poppy/folky albums on Domino.

"I'm Happy, I'm Singing and a 1, 2, 3, 4..." on Mego is good if you like stuff like Fennesz and Xylophonen Virtuosen (or something like that) with Mats Gustaffason is Fahey-esque fingerpicking with added free jazz, which I really like. Totally different style of playing to what Gustaffason normally does. If you like the sound of that without the free jazz get Bad Timing on Domino.

He was also in Gastr Del Sol, Camonfleur is in a similar style to Eureka and Insignificance, maybe more post-rocky and IMO better too.

My favourite current O'Rourke project is Original Silence with Thurston, members of Zu and Gustaffason (again). Free, noisy avant-rock for fans of The Thing, Painkiller, Scorch Trio, Massacre et al. They've got a new album out any minute now.

Bad Timing

There's a point around 7 minutes and 20 seconds into Track 2 (Happy Trails) on the Bad Timing album, which is one of the happiest moments in music (and it's a bit more like the stuff off his other poppier albums)...

Yeah i know

Asking about a new solo album.

Lovig Original Silence as well!

Ooh

I nearly bought that CD in Sound 323 on Saturday.
