Deerhunter - Microcastle

I've not seen a thread on here about this yet, so what are people feeling thus far? Just giving it my first 'proper' listen..

  • incredible

i've listened to it so many times already, i absolutely love it. i will make the honourable choice and buy it when it comes out because it's amazing

    better than cryptograms imo

  • I like it

but as with all other Deerhunter I can never love it & i want to know why! It's pissing me off

    • It's good.

The first four or five tracks are the highlights for me. It seems a lot more mellow and introspective to me, similar to the recent Atlas Sound album.

But it's not as good as Cryptograms. Misses the paranoia and driving rhythms of Cryptograms.

  • If I had heard it I would say

that it is a very differnet record to Cryptograms, a lot of the experimental stuff has been jetisoned for pop thrills. But the band displays a level of song writing that surprises me. Its very mellow and I think it is going to top a lot of end of year lists.

I would say these things if i had heard it

  • upon first listen

i was rather disappointed and i consider myself a big deerhunter fan. i gradually came round to the first half, but i'm still a little indifferent to the rest.

when compared to previous demo/session versions, calvary scars and activa are way too short and underwhelming for my liking.

despite this, the new stuff translates amazingly well live (calvary scars, nothing ever happened, never stops etc).

still can't help but love the fuzz and messyness of 'turn it up faggot' and 'crypotgrams' though - and they're still one of my favourite recent bands!

  • I really like it.

    haven't heard Cryptograms yet.

  • Hmmmmm

It's not quite the journey that Cryptograms is - that said the individual tracks stand alot stronger on Micro...

I think it's great. A real progression without watering down their sound too much.

i think Bradford overdoes the delayed vocals a tad though - never turned the fucking thing off at ATP even when he was talking :-(

  • ace album

I really like it as I do all their stuff. The whole albums a cracker I cant falt it right now.

Live its all brilliant too. Fits in with all the other stuff really easily. I also played Bradfords guitar in the encore as he pased it to the audiance at the end :)

its more song based but they were going that way by the second half of cryptograms and the floresent grey EP, so that doesnt supries me very much at all.

  • I love it,

    will be buying it.
