2005 i think? i'm sure i've heard since then that they'd decided to junk all that as well. they've certainly released things since those sessions that i think were recorded elsewhere.
they were genuinely brilliant the first three or four times i saw them live. absolutely savage and really fucking loud. then they went away for ages and changed drummer and it all went a bit rubbish :(
fucking awesome band.
Ive heard raw mixes of their new album on their old drummers mp3 when they stayed over in sunny bolton after their reuben show support last year and the songs sound seriously awesome. breif listen but enough to know the album is gonna be ace!
Theyre just getting back on track now by the sounds doing occasional shows in brighton, i have the 'saline' , there's a b side on there called " where there's a will" recorded by Steve Albini, i think that song is amazing.
www.subverse.com is their own independent label. and the myspace is www.myspace.com/killkenada - explore it. the band is ace. the horse,to the bones, and kill kenada are doing a show in brighton @ the freebut. hook it up.
and she claimed that she'd had a talk with the singer once a few years ago, at which she'd said something like "if you want to be big you've got to be like nirvana" meaning "accessible but still heavy". she blamed herself for the fact that they've turned into a shit grunge band.
Red And Black was liek my favourite thing on earth at the time tho. saw them a year ago and they didnt play it.
where i think they play 1 track of that in their set. It was with their second drummer and they were amazing. I think it was supporting Meet Me in St.Louis and Optimist Club. Great gig.
Remember talking to the singer after the show about the tracks they did with Steve Albini and he was saying how they'd ditched playing most of their early stuff live.
Saw them again about a year ago and they were no way near as good. I hope they go back to making music similar to the early days.
Everything else I've heard by them just sounds so flat though. Shame really. When I first heard them, along with Kinesis, I was amazed that such music existed. I was sure they were both gonna be massive. Ah well.
great songs. i have the pink album but i don't listen to them anymore, the faux american accent grates on me slightly.
it must be terrible for them though, i saw them in the nme chart on mtv2 a year or a year and a half ago, and thought they were finally back, and still there's no album out!
The Horse, to the Bones, Kill Kenada..
anyone going?
that is gonna be SUCH a SICK show!! the Horse are new and fucking amazing live, and to the bones (bolton) are just so damn awesome...top that off with Kill kenada and you have a hell of a show..
The Horse and Kill kenada are playing the albert on sep 2nd too
dont miss these...
Tim does work in kensingtons, so does the drummer. Ace band...possibly had their time a while back but they are getting on it again now.
i bought their 7 inches, like 3234 years ago
i might try and find them at home!
...
Surely that means they've split up and found proper jobs?
nope I saw them play the other week.
Fucking great band.
Shame the album hasn't come out yet - they haven't found anyone to put it out as I understand it.
have they actually made one then?
interesting..
I was under the impression they'd made one with Albini.
...
That's what I heard too. About 4 years ago.
it was a good number of years ago
2005 i think? i'm sure i've heard since then that they'd decided to junk all that as well. they've certainly released things since those sessions that i think were recorded elsewhere.
did you miss
the pink album?
pretty poor band
MMM was promising, nothing else met that standard
i have it
not really a proper album though, is it? just a compilation of their singles + some unreleased tracks.
isn't that usually
what first albums consist of?
singles plus b-sides
plus some tracks that were two years old at that point and featuring a different lineup?
no.
also
they were genuinely brilliant the first three or four times i saw them live. absolutely savage and really fucking loud. then they went away for ages and changed drummer and it all went a bit rubbish :(
'Choke' and 'Red and Black'
were awesome too, but Massachusetts Murder Medallions is brilliant.
Robyn used to make me videotapes of videos from MTV2 and that was on one of them. Good times :)
i can't believe
no ones put that record out...
album soon apparently
think the Albini stuff was largely binned and a new album recorded though i can't be sure, its all a bit mysterious.
they changed drummer a few months ago, now the chap who was in Make Good Your Escape i hear.
new stuff is largely more direct, still some CHOONS though
awesome band!
fucking awesome band.

aye
Steve from Make Good Your Escape is their new drummer. He's ace.
Having said that, so was Eldge their previous drummer. Both brilliant drummers and top blokes.
They have fallen dramatically
playing Gladstonebury underneath a load of 19 year olds playing play it by numbers indie in a pub
to be fair
that really isn't indicative of anything.
Quite often they'll get offered a gig and if they're not doing anything they'll just play it for the hell of it. That's always been the case.
Red and Black has one of my most favourite intros ever
i met a girl at a party once
and she claimed that she'd had a talk with the singer once a few years ago, at which she'd said something like "if you want to be big you've got to be like nirvana" meaning "accessible but still heavy". she blamed herself for the fact that they've turned into a shit grunge band.
Red And Black was liek my favourite thing on earth at the time tho. saw them a year ago and they didnt play it.
So...
she wasn't too self important then?
I swear the singer
works in Kensington's cafe in Brighton
he definitely does cos I just google imaged them
and he has all the crazy (and pretty sweet) tattoos that i noticed when I had a fry-up two weeks ago.
and i know they are playing/have recently played at hectors house.
he has his own tattoo gun
some pretty funny youtube videos of them tattooing sharpie who runs Dirty Zine
never heard this bunch of jokers
but from my experience, bands that names themselves after 'Akira' = nearly always terrible.
i saw them just after they released 'The Pink Album' 2005
where i think they play 1 track of that in their set. It was with their second drummer and they were amazing. I think it was supporting Meet Me in St.Louis and Optimist Club. Great gig.

the Hit The Floor / Red And Black 7" was immense
not heard a decent tune off them since though :-(
MMM is still an amazing song.
Everything else I've heard by them just sounds so flat though. Shame really. When I first heard them, along with Kinesis, I was amazed that such music existed. I was sure they were both gonna be massive. Ah well.
they were regina spektor's backing band for "your honor"
this justifies their career
red & black and choke and mmm
great songs. i have the pink album but i don't listen to them anymore, the faux american accent grates on me slightly.
it must be terrible for them though, i saw them in the nme chart on mtv2 a year or a year and a half ago, and thought they were finally back, and still there's no album out!
it's hard to think
they had videos at #1 in the MTV2 music charts. Too bad they didn't release an album at the peak of their hype.
fri oct 17th @ freebutt
The Horse, to the Bones, Kill Kenada..
anyone going?

'Greatest Hits' set at The Albert?
...so the grapevine tells me :)
xxx
the horse
i swear i've seen them before, possibly at the freebutt.
the 1st they played was awesome, then it was balls.
great gig
at the albert last night..anyone go?
