2005 i think? i'm sure i've heard since then that they'd decided to junk all that as well. they've certainly released things since those sessions that i think were recorded elsewhere.

they were genuinely brilliant the first three or four times i saw them live. absolutely savage and really fucking loud. then they went away for ages and changed drummer and it all went a bit rubbish :(
'Choke' and 'Red and Black'
were awesome too, but Massachusetts Murder Medallions is brilliant.
Robyn used to make me videotapes of videos from MTV2 and that was on one of them. Good times :)

think the Albini stuff was largely binned and a new album recorded though i can't be sure, its all a bit mysterious.
they changed drummer a few months ago, now the chap who was in Make Good Your Escape i hear.

Ive heard raw mixes of their new album on their old drummers mp3 when they stayed over in sunny bolton after their reuben show support last year and the songs sound seriously awesome. breif listen but enough to know the album is gonna be ace!
Theyre just getting back on track now by the sounds doing occasional shows in brighton, i have the 'saline' , there's a b side on there called " where there's a will" recorded by Steve Albini, i think that song is amazing.

Having said that, so was Eldge their previous drummer. Both brilliant drummers and top blokes.

that really isn't indicative of anything.
Quite often they'll get offered a gig and if they're not doing anything they'll just play it for the hell of it. That's always been the case.
Red and Black has one of my most favourite intros ever
i met a girl at a party once
and she claimed that she'd had a talk with the singer once a few years ago, at which she'd said something like "if you want to be big you've got to be like nirvana" meaning "accessible but still heavy". she blamed herself for the fact that they've turned into a shit grunge band.
Red And Black was liek my favourite thing on earth at the time tho. saw them a year ago and they didnt play it.

but from my experience, bands that names themselves after 'Akira' = nearly always terrible.
i saw them just after they released 'The Pink Album' 2005
where i think they play 1 track of that in their set. It was with their second drummer and they were amazing. I think it was supporting Meet Me in St.Louis and Optimist Club. Great gig.
Remember talking to the singer after the show about the tracks they did with Steve Albini and he was saying how they'd ditched playing most of their early stuff live.
Saw them again about a year ago and they were no way near as good. I hope they go back to making music similar to the early days.
the Hit The Floor / Red And Black 7" was immense
not heard a decent tune off them since though :-(
MMM is still an amazing song.
Everything else I've heard by them just sounds so flat though. Shame really. When I first heard them, along with Kinesis, I was amazed that such music existed. I was sure they were both gonna be massive. Ah well.

great songs. i have the pink album but i don't listen to them anymore, the faux american accent grates on me slightly.
it must be terrible for them though, i saw them in the nme chart on mtv2 a year or a year and a half ago, and thought they were finally back, and still there's no album out!
it's hard to think
they had videos at #1 in the MTV2 music charts. Too bad they didn't release an album at the peak of their hype.
