Seeing police ´on the beat´

Does everyone else not just feel vaguely intimidated by this? I just saw a mounted policewoman wandering around Withington. I mean whats even the point? They may as well send a carnival giant around with a big sign around his neck saying: ¨Yes, the government are watching you at all times.¨

  • i bet it crapped all over burton road too

    • burton rd deserves to be crapped on

      especially the metropolitan

      • not this end of burton road

this is the slummy end. comparatively slummy end.

        • good for you.

im miles away now. can you throw some shit at the metropolitan for me? and the lime tree.

          • okay!

i've never been in the metropolitan. walking past on a friday evening and seeing them all stood in the car park in their fancy shirts and polished shoes is enough to put me off.

            • exactly

i went in for a beer one sunday afternoon and basically got sneered straight back out again cos i wasnt wearing a tux like everyone else.

  • Complaints if they patrol, complaints if they don't.........

    • true................................

    • From different people, though

  • it makes me feel safer

I'm never doing anything that 'the government' would be interested in anyway so why should I give a fuck if they are watching me?

    • in case some future government

takes an interest in something you like to do undisturbed.

      • jacking off?

        .

        • well exactly

          we just dont know.
who would have predicted 50 years ago that today in london every car passing into a certain zone would be photographed and charged for the pleasure?

  • Erm, no

    not really.

  • no

    I that's a bit paranoid

  • I like seeing police on the beat!

In fact I would be far happier to see more on the beat.
I never see it as 'the govn are watching you'
I feel more safe when I see them, and reassured.

    • what are you scared of

      in the first place?

      • getting stabbed up by some

        yoofs!

      • ^This

And I don´t trust the police anyway, anyone with legal coercion abilities is dangerous.

  • I don't give a toss

gives somewhat a sense of security and they're good with directions.
I only don't like them when they approach me with a book and pen saying 'excuse me sir...' Nowadays I've learnt my lesson to not fuck with them, or take a piss infront of them.

  • because there is a lot of crime in Withington?

If they weren't on the beat as much/at all I'm sure there'd be quite a few more people getting shot in Ladbrokes

  • This is the stupidest thread ever

    • something about delicious and ironing

  • The only thing better is several police 'on the beat'

  • QUICK

WE NEED A HOPELESSLY UTOPIAN PLAN TO COUNTERACT A LARGELY HYPOTHETICAL ORWELLIAN THREAT!

    • Well, I guess you have nothing to worry about

no government ever locks up the complacent. :P

      • Yes but I'm not really complacent

        I just disagree with you.

        • wait, not having bobbies on the beat is hopelessly utopian?

          • none at all?

            yes, a little.

  • not really

  • Intimidated?

    Not at all.

  • Hi!

  • Mate

The govt is watching you- all them cctv cameras.

The police don't notice nothing, the guys on the beat are mostly PCSOs, not 'proper' (powers of detainment) policemen. It's all show.

    • PCSOs have a power to detain.

And common law power of arrest.

      FACT!

  • i feel far safer when i see policemen and women walking about

  • i love policemen in cars

for some reason when a policeman in a car looks at you it's like an accolade, like receiving £100 instead of when a man in a van looks at you, that's more like receiving 20p in coppers.

  • My daddies a bobby dazzler

Also: 'Does everyone else not just feel vaguely intimidated by this?'' - I think thats the point.

  • or it's because it

deters crime, makes people feel safer and because police provide a public service by being trustworthy, reliable people to like ask directions from and stuff

  • Horse Police...

I once saw two Horse Police, sorry mounted police on the beat and they actually gave chase and pulled over a car.

It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
