The sound horriffic don't they? Sometimes something in the news just brings home to you what gruesome people 'we' as a human race really are. If there isn't a 'motive' then we really are heading for dark dark times.

why are we 'heading' for dark times

it doesn't follow that this is gonna start happening all the time. Stop scaremongering

mace sales up 40%!

morning stars half off!

its not scaremongering

it just makes you think about how dark and twisted some people's souls are that's all - ok, then its ok no one is ever going to be horrifically murdered ever again. Ever. RULES

Stuff like this has always happened, though

And it's almost impossible to gauge how more common these things are until official statistics are released (and they vary wildly), cause the papers are on a real 'hell in a handcart' mission at the moment.

of course people are

but I don't think the future is any bleaker than the past I think its all the same - good times and bad times, good souls and bad souls. I don't think these kind of things say anything about 'society' and how it's changing. I think it's more about the human psyche like you said up the top

you really are

a fucking mug

Dark times?

It's probably just a nutter. We've had nutters for years.

KNIFE CRIME EPIDEMIC

LINDA ROBSON

yeah uts funny people get killed like its a Tarantino film

get wanking y'all!

fuck it, I was just horrified reading about it and wanted to mention it, but of course that means I read the Daily Mail. quite frankly fuck off forever.

It made me feel like that too

it's very confusing and i really wanna know who done it and why

nobody thinks it's cool

of course it's horrific. but, c'mon:

"If there isn't a 'motive' then we really are heading for dark dark times."

scare mongering much? i once heard there was violence IN THE PAST as well!

there wasn't

everyone knew their neighbours, children were polite, and people just left their houses unlocked because they could and even told other people in the street that they had left them unlocked because everyone could be trusted.

ITV have a new prime time show in development.

Britains Got Knife Crime, no other details have emerged yet.

yeah but Kill Bill makes me jixx the big one heh heh

loving it when I feel like this RULES.

Yeah fuck it, dirty frenchies probably deserved it anyway. Cheers, autistos!!!

The problem here is you're making the leap between

'not thinking we're headed for dark times' and 'not being shocked by this story'. I'm sure everyone was shocked by this story. It doesn't mean they agree with your second statement.

No it doesn't mean

"this is gonna start happening all the time" I think he's just pointing out that this is a particularly horrific case. I happen to agree.

^ This is what I mean

There's something brutal about it that makes me uneasy at how 'we' get to the stage when a) its 'blah' fuck it happens all the time and b) OH MAN YOUR LINDER LEE POTTER, let's dance!

That's all.

Aren't the people you're criticising

saying the exact opposite? That it doesn't happen all the time?

I never said it happens all the time

I said it doesn't, and that's what we need to focus on

aw bless

you are a sensitive wee soul aren't you

actually

I agree, its horrific. Really fucking horrific. ITV probably are developing said programme though, they're only one step away from it surely..

Probably, a little bit

Anyone who lives in London is. But not much danger, really.

It was better when Carter USM were mayors of New Cross.....

they only allowed the crusties, the grebos and the goths to live there and there was no crime other than the occasional stolen drum machine.

Now look at it!

I've always thought New Cross was 'eerie'

I did an all night recording once at some 'insert name' studio and had to get a night bus back to civilisation and 'let me tell you' it was heartbreak

I reckon the perpetrator

is a Jigsaw from 'Saw'-esque figure.

Time to start going to sleep clutching a baseball bat.

it really is quite disgusting.

you just know there's a lot more that happened to those two that they're not releasing into the press. in the Metro this morning one of the police officer guys said it was the most difficult thing he'd had to do, to describe to their families what had happened. just, ugh.

i can't even begin to imagine what they went through before they died.

har.

I just hope they weren't watching Doc Martin on BBC1 at the time

seriously though, I'm clearly not the only one who's been woken up from a desensitized stupor then.

some friends and i were going to move to london for a few years

after uni. all this junk lately has put me right off.

How is that smarmy?

Do explain.

Just the whole thing

Your whole contribution to this thread has been smarmy.

"ok, then its ok no one is ever going to be horrifically murdered ever again. Ever. RULES"

"yeah uts funny people get killed like its a Tarantino film
get wanking y'all!"

"yeah but Kill Bill makes me jixx the big one heh heh
loving it when I feel like this RULES.

Yeah fuck it, dirty frenchies probably deserved it anyway. Cheers, autistos!!!"

"Anyone else banging one out over the YouTube footage?"

"Has Lily Allen posted any lyrics about it yet?"

"no its ok, we all live at Vikram's in Hoxton
safe as houses"

It's just getting quite annoying. There doesn't seem to be any point to it other than ambiguous mocking of everyone and everything without any sort of real direction. It's like what 14-year-olds do.

well I started the thread

by saying how moved and horrified I was and then got a few sarcastic replies so I thought 'fuck it, most people in here only really care about themselves/Biffy Clyro so I thought I'd mock a bit - calm down miniMarcofella!

None of it is serious barring my revulsion and horror of the actual crime so pipe down and finish your degree or something

He picked up the phone on Tuesday

More details inside.

He just said he owes loads of money to his Aunt

and me but he's working every day to pay it off. He gave me some shit about trying to call me (I know for a fact he didn't) so... hopefully, I'll get the money back at some point. But I still think he's a bit of a cunt. Still, he doesn't need to know what until I get my money back.

I dropped out of university, so I can't

I'm hardly in a Marco-esque netrage, it's just really really annoying when you do it for this long. The odd one here or there I can stand, but five or six in twenty minutes is irritating. I'm well aware it isn't serious. It doesn't stop it being annoying and twatty.

well please don't take it seriously

I'm not trying to go out of my way to annoy you you know!

Good

Thank you

I like the term 'netrage'

can we be friends now? I don't like rowing

OK

Would you like to criticise an aspect of my posting to even things up so I don't feel guilty?

No its ok

I know I overreact - Im just a failed 'writer' who thinks I can be ad hoc whenever.

SURELY THIS IS THE WHOLE

POINT OF DiS.

reading back through the highlighted 'edits' of my smarm

which, by the way, Alain, is the wrong word your looking for, I thought them quite 'apt'.

Whatever, its true horror happening now and there's nothing sadly we can do about it. Anyway asides like the ones you kindly turned unto a digested read are just irrelevant 'observations'

Ever thought of a job in the civil service?

They are smarmy

because you're posting them mocking everyone else. Pretty smarmful.

As I see it, what happened is you posted a reasonable response with an over-the-top statement tagged to it. People said your tagged-on statement was a bit over the top. You started making annoying smarmy mock-posts about 'modern society' etc.

Duuuuude

Not what smarmy means

you're wasting your time Prole

he never gives up..

i give up

Its not important. Its not smarmy though, more scornful jocularity but whatever

two murders within three minutes walk of my flat

in the last two years. i am so edgy

Yeah, you're safer in Scotland.........

nobody ever gets stabbed there!

well...to my knowledge

no one has been stabbed 200 times and set alight in the last oh...few year :[

They certianly are horrific, nobody could dispute that,

but this is nothing particularly new, and so the 'heading for dark dark times' statement is a touch over the top. The real indicator of how fucked up this situation is is whether this perpetrator turns into a Zodiac style serial killer or this was just a one off (could be a case of mistaken identity or the guy could have had a motive - it doesn't take a lot to piss of nutters in south London).

I keep thinking 'serial killer' who's into the Saw movies for some reason

I mean its possible - whoever did it was probably reading about 'what the stars did in London last night' in the London Paper 'like the rest of us' - its hideous isn't it?

:(

that would be scary.

i remember my mum telling me about the Yorkshire Ripper. she was a teacher in leeds at the time, and apparently the women were all escorted home every night.

one of the kids she taught found one of the victims :(

I lived in Bradford briefly, Great Horton Street to be precise

which was slap bang in Ripper territory, near enough every street you walked past had a link to the case, the location of a corpse, the house where a victim had lived, etc

It's still an active red light district too which only added to the creepiness of it all.

my mum lived about 5 minutes away from the Yorkshire Rippers house

at the 'peak' of the killings. She said in the winter they used to shut down the school early so people could get home before it became dark.

Must have been stabbing for a good half an hour.

Pretty horrid stuff.

Do Radiohead have a take on this?

To think the people who did this might have a DIS account.

Formed a Band, we formed a band

Look at us, we formed a band

i don't get at All

why like.. 200 times?!
why that much effort?
*sigh* sad times

This is what smarmy really means

smarmy
Adjective
[smarmier, smarmiest] unpleasantly flattering or polite

What?

I thought it meant like smug and that, but different? Oh well. Another nail in my 'knowledge of the English language' coffin.

don't be so silly

quite frankly it would be more horrifying iof there was a motive. dark dark times? some crazy going crazy is just a blip. it's nopt the a harbinger of End Days

usually I am totally jaded and stuff when it comes to these things

but I guess cos it's so nearby and horrifically unexplained that this case has really disturbed me.

It doesn't help I watched Zodiac a couple of nights before and it has an almost identical scene.

it's not about being jaded

what happened is horrific. unless it was some sort of gang thing - very unlikely - it must have been some psycho. which whilst unsettling is hardly some sort of sign of escalating yoot violence or whatever. i lived around new cross for four years and whilst it's hardly the safest of places, this kind of crime really is a complete anomaly and is not an indications of 'dark, dark times'.

still, sleep well knowing this psychopath is stalking your streets :P

I'd much rather it be gang related...

wouldnt you?

Otherwise it is completely random and could happen to anyone. As fucked up as gangs and stuff is, it is usually between gangs, at least I know it's not gonna be me!
