VIACOM wtf?

How the fuck can they do this?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7488009.stm

  • I was hoping there'd be a thread on this

But no one cares. Our civil liberties are being stolen, and not one of you gives a shit.

    • i don't give a shit about anything anymore

according to my stinkin' bitch of a mother

    • This is fucked up!

      Let's get Leon involved

      • why

        is he her latest "friend"?

        • ^

          [Curb-Centric]

          • i just googled curb

and top was curb your enthusiasm.
am i right or am i right?

            • you are winner!

now google "curb + leon" and you're true answer shall be revealed.....BUT do not go on youtube if you value your human rights

              • ...

                First result! Score!

The "step inside dat ass!" bit is seriously one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

    • why would I give a shit

that people know what youtube videos I've been watching?

  • that's shit

  • who cares?!

  • surely the volume of "paperwork" involved

makes the demand redundant. i mean with that scale of information overload (12tb?!) how can viacom expect to find anything useful to their case? twats.

    • Sociograms

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociogram

this is what's happening to the world - we're all being arranged into social discipline models

this data is like gold dust to corporations and governments alike

we're being tracked, logged, graded and arranged and nobody seems to give a shit

      kinda scary I think

      Question:
Has anyone here on DiS read or heard anything about the new Swedish FRA law?

      • please enlighten...

my knowledge on new swedish FRA law needs refreshing!

        • Come on,

of all the Nordic FRA laws it is by far the least complex.

          • ENLIGHTEN MEEEE!

            what are FRA laws anyway??

          • yes!

i understand; it took me 24 seconds to understand.
            my verdict:that aint right.

            • It would take you

24 years to understand the Danish FRA laws.

          • Basically

it means that every form of electronic communication crossing Sweden's borders can be legally read by a private intelligence company that works for the military

            • i swear..

this world gets more like 1984 (the novel) everyday.

              • yep

how long before people start boycotting the internet?

                hmm

                • We can start talking to each other face to face again!

                  • yeah but..

how long do you think a long-term power cut would take before we don't miss it?

                    • I miss the internet

after about one day without it. I hope that it doesn't become regimented and logged in such an obsessive way:( This is like the relaxed shambolic attitude of the 70's compared to now. We will get a letter every month saying what websites we visited and what files we downloaded in a big list:( :( :(

            • intersting

i'd always assumed swedish internet law was quite lax, considering how openly the pirate bay (in particular) has been allowed to exist for so long.

              • well

they were raided about a year and a half ago (maybe more I think) but the justice system in Sweden is so old and doddery that they haven't got much of a clue about 'digital' crime

Pirate bay just moved their servers to Denmark (similarly, Sweden has a State monopoly on gambling and tried to close down lots of poker sites but they just moved servers to Malta)

The legal case against Pirate bay rumbles on but when things like this
                http://www.thelocal.se/11188/20080418/

                and this
                http://www.thelocal.se/11144/20080416/

happen, the case for the Pirate Bay only gets stronger.

Actually the Pirate Bay has organised itself into a legitimate political party of sorts (The Pirate Party) whose manifesto is based on a radical overhaul of intellectual copyright laws

A number of commentators believe that this new FRA law is more to stop the Pirate Bay (and thus The Pirate Party) then anything to do with terrorism

Not surprisingly, the Pirate Party are leading the fight against the law

      • oh my god

stop with the Big Brother paranoia shit

  • What does it matter if they do?

    • you mean "Why does it matter?"

or is it a rhetorical question?

      • I meant what I said...?

Why else would I say it? The what/why switch make it exactly the same question....

        • nope

"What does it matter if they do?" implies 'I don't give fuck'

"Why does it matter?" implies genuine interest in the other person's stated opinion

          • dont bother argueing

            she a mentalist fuckwit.

            • she's still a human being

              show some humanity

            • as opposed to being a raging pervert

              eh richy?

  • I, for one, welcome our new

    viacom overlords.

    • ^this

all hail the first great and bountiful world ruler, Mr Viacom

  • i'm sure we're too proud a race to be controlled.

like that film Brazil when they fight the system, and then, err...well i nodded off before the end but he seemed happy in that field with his girlfriend.

  • HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON

    does this include youporn?

    • do you think yr gonna get taken to court for watching youporn

      are you worried

      • What about Xtube?

        Or PornoTube?

        ...I'm not worried at all...

        ...not one bit.

        • do you think there's some lawyers working with porn industry

who are gonna launch a big name and shame campaign and then itll turn out that pretty much everyone in the western world gets fined for watching porn on the internet and the global economy is okay again

          • Eh... I dunno.

Porn's pretty creepy. I wonder how much money it generates...

            • i guess its a really lucrative industry to go into

i was reading that porn specifically for women is an untapped niche, i'm not rly sure why i was reading that though

do you think it would be a good experience to take children to vegas on school trips

  • Its quite saddening

    Viacom are fucking everywhere

  • i think this is very concerning
