'Hi, I'm Alan McGee! Here's my BRILLIANTLY OUTSPOKEN, CAPITALISED, NONSENSICAL, PATHETICALLY SMALL AND DRASTICALLY UNFUNNY opinion on Grange Hill! The theme tune to Bread! Swervedriver's second EP! The weather when I signed 18 Wheeler!'
was someone from.. um.. one of those awful strokes-alike bands he signed who i forget the name of, who said being dropped from poptones was a total death knell for your career :D
Didn't he reveal in a book much later than they were with Sony (was it?) from very early on but didn't want to lose any of their 'reputation' so Creation were used in some kind of weird agreement. (I don't know the actual story)
Oasis were signed to Sony and immediately licenced to Creation. It doesn't explicitly say why, apart from suggestions of a US deal with Epic to bypass the American label McGee had a deal with.
Signed to Sony, who licensed them to Creation for the UK only. The 'discovered Oasis' thing is funny because he didn't predict MASSIVE success for them... just a few hundred thousand to keep Creation going.
Signed some great bands, sure, but neglected a lot of the best ones and indulged the worst (MBV excepted). He's no Corey Rusk, that's for sure!
Alan McGee is just an Industry Guy now. I wouldn't let him anywhere the fuck near my band.
Then sold 49% of Creation to Sony on the strength of them. Or something like that. He did sign Oasis, the intringences of the deal I was not privvy to.
He's cheesy
but on this rare occasion, he's right.
He's like the sort of cunt who keeps appearing on Channel 4 clip shows
only he doesn't have a clip show to appear on.

he is a miserable shit isn't he?
remember his 'mbv were my example of a joke bnad?' quote
Not before Glasvegas sell at least 50 million albums!
: (
iLiKETRAMS
that is all
He is a bit of a fud.
Just because nobody cared about Poptones once the Hives left
I'm not sure how you'd be "better off" financing everything by yourself.
my favourite quote re: poptones

he discovered my favourite bands
so he can be a dick all he likes now
^ you like Doncaster's Beachbuggy too???
yes and biff bang pow!
so these other sins can be forgiven
Beachbuggy were great
and, although I didn't know this until a couple of months ago, a Wedding Present spinoff of sorts.
'McGee famously signed Oasis in 1993 after witnessing a gig by the band in his native Glasgow.'
...and hasn't done a fucking thing of use since
but he did things of actual use before this
true
but doing something useful nearly 20 years ago does not relevance make
like the beatles innit?
Isn't it true that Creation didn't even sign Oasis?
Didn't he reveal in a book much later than they were with Sony (was it?) from very early on but didn't want to lose any of their 'reputation' so Creation were used in some kind of weird agreement. (I don't know the actual story)
Never heard that
I've got My Magpie Eyes... nearby, give me a few minutes.
Ah, you're right
Oasis were signed to Sony and immediately licenced to Creation. It doesn't explicitly say why, apart from suggestions of a US deal with Epic to bypass the American label McGee had a deal with.
Aye
Signed to Sony, who licensed them to Creation for the UK only. The 'discovered Oasis' thing is funny because he didn't predict MASSIVE success for them... just a few hundred thousand to keep Creation going.
Signed some great bands, sure, but neglected a lot of the best ones and indulged the worst (MBV excepted). He's no Corey Rusk, that's for sure!

Nah he signed Oasis
Then sold 49% of Creation to Sony on the strength of them. Or something like that. He did sign Oasis, the intringences of the deal I was not privvy to.
He sold Creation to Sony a year earlier
he had to sell off creation
cos kevin shields bankrupted him
ps he did find jesus and mary chain and financed them by working for national rail. this is why he was good
i'm fairly sure i sat opposite him
one the way back from MBV last month. i know for sure i sat opposite a bald, Scottish man.
did he tell you that glasvegas are the best band to ever come from scotland?
cos that's all he does now
What's
his problem with trams?
why you asking me?
