your turn
You're the shit
and I'm knee deep in it
It takes more than
fucking someone to keep yourself warm.
^ This one
and
"I don't want you back, but I do want him dead" (or something along those lines)
I don't want y ou back but I want to kill him
innit
as the name suggests
'the modern leper' has some of my favourite lyrics ever written, especially 'vital parts fall from his system and dissolve in scottish rain, vitally he doesn't miss them he's too fucked up too care.' Awesomeness.
this^
I believe in a house in the clouds
and gods got his dead friends round, hes painted all the walls red to remind them that they're dead.
That may or may not be the lyric but thats my recollection of it anyway, think its from head rolls off.
what a wonderful band
that was my second choice
a lovely line, and how it blends into the chorus. oo
Jesus....
...is just a spanish boy's name.
did anyone else receive a frightened rabbit xmas card after buying the album in 2006?
its those kind of gestures that make me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Was a bit of a flimsy card mind
thats indeed lovely
it like the sign-up cards you used to get in CD singles. HaLo fanclub, you were so good to me :(
Halo
who did sanctimonious? Ive got that! HA!
yes
i have every single thing they ever did. i was 15 at the time though, if thats an excuse?
I would have been considerably older
I have literally no excuse. Trying to think of other grungey bands out at that time, Hell is for heroes, Vendetta Red, Inme - all turned out to be shite really
Ah Halo...
What is their new new new new new new name ( as they change every 3 months apparently... )
Btw, not a fan of Frightened Rabbit.
Musically it's good ( albeit a bit too easy from time to time ) but I really have difficulties with his voice...
Don't move to Scotland
it's just a Scottish accent!
I don't intend to...
And it's not only the accent !
plus
it's not really how he speaks - it's disguising a lack of ability to sing.
"I'm not ill and you're not dead
doesn't that make us, the perfect pair?"
(that may be wrong)
"Why can't our love keel over as it chokes on a bone?" (that whole verse)
"I'm working on drawing a straight line and I'll draw until I get one right!" (more the way he sings it)
plus I'd like to second
"You're the shit and I'm knee deep in it"
"It takes more than fucking someone you don't know to keep warm!"
"You must be a masochist, to love a modern leper, on his last leg"
and also add:
"If we've both got the same diseases, it's irrelevant!"
I like the way he sings
"I'm drunk, I'm drunk, and you're probably on pills"
They're so great live, I'm seeing them in Leeds next Thursday <3
Yeah, that's a great line!
I hate the fact that I forgot to charge my mp3 player!
I've probably got just enough
to last me til I get home tonight :)
Their lyrics annoy me
on the whole. But there are some great one liners
'I woke up this morning
and thought maybe today the world might be a more colourful place, but you know what? It's still just grey'
Or maybe-
'And now we're unrelated, and rid of all the shit we hated and I hate when I feel like this, but I never hated you'
Although it could be anything from 'Poke' actually. Love that song.
yeah i like that one from
the greys nice choice
Cheers
:)
Poke is lovely! :)
It really is
But then it just shows how great Midnight Organ Fight is is when Poke is probably only my third favorite song from it behind Good Arms vs Bad Arms and Modern Leper.
"I'm armed with the past and the will and a brick!"
and that lyric about being 'heavy set'.
It's probably my album of the year so far! The lyrics are so easy to relate to and the phrasing is simple yet massively affecting.
"Leave the rest at arms length, keep your naked flesh under your favourite dress"
Same here! I have no idea how some people don't like the lyrics or the way he sings them. The whole package just captures my mood these days perfectly. I love as well how I've been listening to it for 3 months or whatever, probably 4 or 5 times a week at least, and I've not got any symptoms of getting bored of it, which is something I can't say about many albums.
I got bored of 'Old Old Fashioned'
really quickly, although the lyrics make me think of good times!
It is probably the weakest track
but I still think it's fun and really appreciate the sentiment behind it.
Yeah, the sentiment is great
I just got bored of the music and the melody.
"Turn off the TV, it's killing us, we never speak!"
"If we both get old fashioned
we won't have to rely on our memories"
heretic!
"I'm drunk,
and I'm drunk"
Gets me every time. Basically all of Poke as well.
"My eyes roll back to stare at my starving brain"
Something similar to that anyway.
*sigh*
"Well I crippled your heart a hundred times and still can't work out why.
You see I've got this disease I can't shake and I'm just rattling through life.
Well this is how we do things now, yeah this is how the modern stay scared.
So I cut out all the good stuff, yeah I cut off my foot to spite my leg"
'make music that some cunt might like'
Yes!
And for some reason the bit in Snake that goes something like "he was proud and awfully glad that I took him out, I asked him 'how does New York sound?' he says it sounds quite loud" never fails to make me smile.
waits for someone to use the phrase "sixth form"
sigh
"only love will set you free"
Seriously though: "Good arms versus bad arms wins hands down"
Just the first lyrics that stuck in my head on the very first listen.
Seeing as you're all such big fans
What's the album like? Is 'Modern Leper' the standout? Yeah, as a bunch of fans probably not the best people to ask for an objective opinion, but you know what I mean.
it's excellent
will be there or there abouts in the end if year top ten i imagine.
wouldn't say it's a standout, there are better tracked on the album
is that pink mist?
or just lit dry ice?
ps:
The Modern Leper
A cripple walks amongst you all you tired human beings.
He’s got all the things a cripple has not, two working arms and legs.
Vital parts fall from his system and dissolve in Scottish rain.
Vitally he doesn’t miss them, he’s too fucked up to care.
Is that you? In front of me?
Coming back for even more of exactly the same?
You must be a masochist
To love a modern leper on his last leg.
On his last leg…
I’ve crippled your heart a hundred times and still can’t work out why.
See, I’ve got this disease that I can’t shake and I’m just rattling through life.
This is how we do things now, this is how the modern stay scared.
So I cut out all the good stuff, oh! I cut of my foot to spite my leg.
Is that you? In front of me?
Coming back for even more of exactly the same?
You must be a masochist
You love a modern leper on his last leg.
I am ill, but I’m not dead
And I don’t know which of those I’d prefer
Because that limb which I have lost,
It was the only thing holding me up.
Holding me…
I’m lying on the ground now and you walk in through the only door.
I have lost my eyesight like I said I would, but I still know
That that is you in front of me,
And you are back for even more of exactly the same.
Are you a masochist?
You love a modern leper on his last leg.
You’re not ill and I’m not dead.
Doesn’t that make us the perfect pair?
You should sit with me and we’ll start again,
And you can tell me all about what you did today.
What you did today.
I Feel Better
I left Howse without a fucking clue.
And left New York City, girl, without you.
But the sun does shine in this place some days.
And even when there’s cloud there isn’t always rain.
I’ll stow away my greys, in a padlocked case and in a padlocked room.
Only to be released when I sing all the songs I wrote about you.
This is the last one that I’ll do.
Now I’m free in parenthesis
I’m not sure what I ought to do with it.
It sits in the house, bright eyes and raised hand.
If I ignore its advances then the hand goes down.
I’ll stow away my greys, in a padlocked case and in a padlocked room.
Only to be released when I sing all the songs I wrote about you.
This is the last one that I’ll do.
I feel better and better and worse and then better
Than ever than ever than ever then ever
I feel much better and better and worse and then better
Than ever than ever than ever than ever
I’ll stow away my greys, in a padlocked case and in a padlocked room.
Only to be released when I see you walking round with someone new.
This is the last song I’ll write about you.
Good Arms Vs. Bad Arms
Good arms versus bad arms I win hands down.
They are built to hold and fit look how far they go around.
You don’t need these now that you’ve found another pair.
And the difference is astounding I should expect.
Except…
Leave the rest at arms length.
Keep your naked flesh under your favourite dress.
Leave the rest at arms length.
When they reach out don’t touch them, don’t touch them.
I decided this decision some six months ago.
So I’ll stick to my guns but from now on its war.
I am armed with the past and the will and a brick.
I might not want you back but I want to kill him.
Leave the rest at arms length.
Keep your naked flesh under your favourite dress.
Leave the rest at arms length.
When they reach out don’t touch them, don’t touch them.
Leave the rest at arms length.
Don’t brush with him he might have diseases.
Leave the rest at arms length.
Steer clear of the grasp, girl, run run away.
Leave the rest at arms length.
Just roll over, boy, don’t make me do this.
Leave the rest at arms length.
I am armed to the teeth, I am heavy set.
Leave the rest at arms length.
I’m not ready to see you this happy.
Leave the rest at arms length.
I am still in love with you, can’t admit it yet.
Fast Blood
Good night.
It’s stroke time
Let’s get paralysed
Down both sides
Snake hips
Red city kiss
Your black eyes
Roll back.
The midnight organ fight
Yours gives in to mine
Its alright.
And the fast blood hurricanes through me
And rips my roof away
With a fire hiss
This is the longest kiss
Good night.
Now I
I tremble
Because this fumble
Has become biblical
I feel like
I just died twice
And was reborn again
For our dirty sins
And the fast blood hurricanes through me.
And rips my roof away
With a fire hiss
This is the longest kiss
Good night.
Old Old Fashioned
Turn off the TV, its killing us we never speak.
There’s a radio in the corner, its dying to make us see.
So give me soft soft static with a human voice underneath.
And we can both get old fashioned, put the brakes on these fast fast wheels.
Let’s get old fashioned, back to how things used to be.
If I get old old fashioned, would you get old old fashioned with me?
Put the wall clock in the top drawer, turn off the lights so we can see.
And we will waltz across the carpet, one two three, two two three.
So give me the soft soft static of the open fire and shuffle of our feet.
And we can both get old fashioned, do it like they did in ’43.
Let’s get old fashioned, back to how things used to be.
If I get old old fashioned, would you get old old fashioned with me?
So give me soft soft static and we won’t need no electricity.
If we both get old fashioned, we won’t have to rely on our memories.
Let’s get old fashioned, back to how things used to be.
If I get old old fashioned, would you get old old fashioned with me?
The Twist
Do the twist in the twisting outfit,
The loose tie with the loose, limp wrists.
Lift your dress enough to show me those shins.
Let your hair stick to your forehead.
Did you blush then when our hips touched?
I can’t tell, we are already red.
Am I right? Are you giving me the signs?
I that pink mist, or just lit dry ice?
So twist and whisper the wrong name
I don’t care and nor do my ears.
Twist yourself around me
I need company, I need human heat.
I need human heat.
Lets pretend I’m attractive and then
You won’t mind, we can twist for a while.
It’s the night, I can be who you like.
And I’ll quietly leave before it gets light.
So twist and whisper the wrong name
I don’t care and nor do my ears.
Twist yourself around me
I need company, I need human heat.
I need human heat.
(it’s the mm-hmm uh-huh, extra super very)
Twist and whisper the right name,
I’m Dave, if you please.
The twist is that you’re just like me,
You need company you need human heat.
You need human heat.
Head Rolls Off
Jesus is just a Spanish boy’s name.
Howcome one man got so much fame?
To any me, its pointless to anybody who doesn’t have faith.
Give me the cloth and I’ll wipe my face.
When its all gone, something carries on.
And its not morbid at all, its just when nature’s had enough of you.
When my blood stops, someone else’s will have not.
When my head rolls off, someone else’s will turn.
While I’m alive, I’ll make tiny changes to earth.
So you can burn me, ‘cause we’ll all be the same; the same way.
Dirt in someone’s eye that’s cried down the drain.
I believe in a house in the clouds, and God’s got His dead friends round.
He’s painted all the walls in red to remind them they’re all dead.
And you know when its all gone, something carries on.
And its not morbid at all, its just when nature’s had enough of you.
When my blood stops, someone else’s will have not.
When my head rolls off, someone else’s will turn.
You can mark my words, I’ll make changes to earth.
While I’m alive I’ll make tiny changes to earth.
My Backwards Walk
I’m working on my backwards walk
Walking with no shoes or socks
And the time rewinds to the end of May
I wish we’d never met then met today
I’m working on my faults and cracks
Filling in the blanks and gaps
When I write them out they don’t make sense
I need you to pencil in the rest
I’m working on drawing a straight line
And I will draw until I get one right
Its bold and dark, girl, can’t you see
I’ve done drawn a line between you and me
I’m working on erasing you
But I just don’t have the proper tools
I will get hammered forget that you exist
But there’s no way I’m forgetting this
I’m working hard on walking out
But my shoes keep sticking to the ground
My clothes won’t let me close the door
‘Cause my trousers seem to love your floor
I’ve been working on my backwards walk
‘Cause there’s nowhere else for me to go
Except back to you just one last time
Say yes before I change my mind
Say yes before i…
You’re the shit and I’m knee deep in it.
Keep Yourself Warm
My hole, my hole, I’ll get my hole.
Get my hole, get my hole and I’ll find out more.
It’s a choo-choo train,
A rocket launch.
If we have a hormone race
I’m bound to finish first.
Can you see in the dark?
Can you see the look on your face?
The flashing white light’s been turned off
You don’t know who is in your bed.
It takes more than fucking someone you don’t know to keep yourself warm.
Do you really think that for a house beat you’ll find your love in a hole?
You won’t find love in a, won’t find love in a hole.
It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself warm.
I’m drunk, I’m drunk and you’re probably on pills.
If we’ve both got the same diseases, its irrelevant, girl.
And the woo-hoo whistle steam
Evaporates, disappears
My point of entry
Is the same way that I leave.
Can you see in the dark?
Can you see the look on your face?
The flashing white light’s been turned off
You don’t know who is in your bed.
It takes more than fucking someone you don’t know to keep yourself warm.
Do you really think that for a house beat you’ll find your love in a hole?
Poke
Poke at my iris, why can’t I cry about this?
Maybe there is something that you know that I don’t.
We adopt a brand new language, communicate through pursed lips
And you try not to put on any sexy clothes or graces.
I might never catch a mouse and present it in my mouth
To make you feel you’re with someone who deserves to be with you.
But there’s one thing we’ve got going, and it’s the only thing worth knowing,
Its got lots to do with magnets and the pull of the moon.
Why won’t our love keel over as it chokes on a bone?
And we can mourn its passing and then bury it in snow.
Or should we kick its cunt in and watch as it dies from bleeding?
If you don’t want to be with me just say and I will go.
We can change our partners, this is a progressive dance, but
Remember it was me who dragged you up to the sweaty floor.
This has been a reel, I’ve got shin-splints and a stitch from we.
But like a drunken night, it’s the best bits that are coloured in.
You should look through some old photos, I adored you in every one of those
If someone took a picture of us now they’d need to be told
That we had ever clung and tied a navy knot with arms at night.
I’d say she was his sister but she doesn’t have his nose.
And now we’re unrelated and rid of all the shit we hated
But I hate when I feel like this and I never hated you.
Floating In The Forth
So you just stepped out of the front of my house and I’ll never see you again.
I closed my eyes for a second and when they opened you weren’t there.
And the door shut shut I was vacuum packed, shrink wrapped out of air.
And the spine collapsed and the eyes rolled back to stare at my starving brain.
Fully clothed, I’ll float away.
Down the Forth, into the sea.
I think I’ll save suicide for another day.
I picture this corpse on the M8 hearse and I have found a way to sleep
On a rolled up coat against the window with the strobe of the sun and the life I’ve lead.
Am I ready to leap? Is there peace beneath the roar of the Forth Road Bridge?
On the northern side is a Fife of mine and a boat in the port for me.
And fully clothed, I’ll float away.
Down the Forth, into the sea
I’ll steer myself through chopping waves
As manic gulls scream ‘Its OK!
Take you life! Give it a shake!
Gather up all your loose change!’
I think I’ll save suicide for another year.
...
Can't wait
for next tuesday at White Heat!
here's a few
"you sit on your high horse, and you're spouting high horse shite!"
"so come, stay calm, right there behind your ribs and grab my hand, stages are just stages for us to pass"
"if someone took a picture of us now they'd need to be told that we had ever clung on tight and maybe not with arms at night, i'd say she was his sister but she doesn't have his nose"
"i'm drunk and i'm drunk and you're probably on pills, if we've both got the same diseases it's irrelevant girl"
"the loose tie with the loose limp wrists, life your dress to show those shins, let your hair stick to your forehead"
