You notice how they pissed all over every other group of musicians playing that festival over the weekend?

But then, this is generally true of hip-hop musicians.

The moral of this story is...

Only Listen to Hip-Hop?

To be fair, with a budget like his, finding people who can handle themselves and their instruments would be a cinch.

...

Paul Weller must be loaded by now. How come his band huffs massive indie dong?

...

That goes double for Morrissey.

I dunno,

last time I saw Morrisey's band on TV they seemed pretty on the button.

Taste is everything, but I think in a hip hop/R&B environment, there's an obvious scope for just blowing up in a way that there might not be in other environments. See Jill Scott and Mary J's bands for evidence.

Also, The Indie guys just aren't from a background where suc burning instrumentalism is expected of you, I'd guess.

Ho hum, on the fence as ever...

triple

That drummer was unreal

I just wish BBC Three would have had MORE SHOTS of him (and the bassist) doing super complicated things.

I was pretty impressed

with John Mayers guitar playing. Never heard any of his stuff before but guitar wise he was aweseome

you should check out

the John Mayer Trio live album "Try"

John Mayer. Steve Jordan. Pino Palladino = Some heavy blues rock

...

Did you ever see Beyonce when she was being backed by the Band of Girls? That band was so tight it was almost sexual.

Tony Royster Jr.

Is Jay Z's drummer. He's 23 now but he is the dude from that YouTube video of that kid doing the amazing drumming

...

QED.

And now it seems the lesson is: Go to church. Black church. Both him and Thomas Pridgen are church band boys and both are utterly badass.

I'd say:

In the UK 'Urban' pop session world, about 90% of the session drummers come from or are associated with a church background.

Nathan Allen, Troy Miller, Frank Tontoh, Josh McKenzie, bloody everyone.

I think if it shows anything, it's that there's no substitute for having to learn about ten tunes a week, unpaid, from the age of about 12.

Did you see Troy with Amy?

I thought he killed it. Awesome playing

I think I've got his solo album somewhere - as far as I'm aware though it's only recently he's got involved in the church so to speak - he came out of the Guildhall (School of Music)

Frank Tonto - I heard he stole the Amy drum seat from Nathan, after Nathan depped the gig to him. Something like that anyway. Andy Small (Kylie) is another church dude though, and Jerry Brown (Take That) I think

The American r'n'b bands are always the best anyway

Careful

about rumours to do with that Amy gig. I'd talk to Nate about it if you want to know, cause I've heard all maneer of stuff flying around about it.

I thought Troy used to play at church, but that may just be cause of the stuff on his last record making my memory play tricks on me. Either way, I could listen to him play all day.

I haven't seen the Amy set yet, but I'm hoping it's on the BBC website somewhere. I heard great reports the next day about some Sam Beste wreckage too, so I have to hear it some time!

...

Not at Glastonbury, no. But technically speaking, it's close - but they don't win.

No, I wa\nted to

but, you know, it was Jay Z. Had to go, especially as I've seen Battles before.

My fave Jay Z moments:

The opening ten minutes - unreal.

"My name is Jay Z, and in case you ain't heard, I'm pretty fucking awesome"

Everyone brushing the dirt off their shoulder to "Dirt off you shoulder"

His thanking speech before playing Encore.

His band was tight as fuck

I almost wish I had been there

but battles were so sick

the moral of this story is

that System of a Down and their contemporaries can probably play facemelting solos at 90mph, being suspended from a bridge and having tins of beans poured on them repeatedly.

Who cares?

marry me

I think I clocked you on Thursday morning at the pyramid field

as I was waiting with our mates and our stuff. However I didn't want to go over to you in front of your mate and mine and go "Oh hai! I know you off the internet"

...

A sight more people than care about say, Kasabian.

But who mentioned SOAD or metal anyway?

...

I might also take this opportunity to deliver a personal 'in your face': How many people cared about Oasis this weekend? Fuck all.

i saw battles

they were great
seeing jay-z at rock werchter this weekend - don't think it will have the same impact!

Hang about,

didn't you say in the other thread that you thought all Jigga's backing stuff was canned/pre-recorded?

WHO IS RIGHT HERE
YOU DECIDE

system of a down

are loose as fuck

Hip Hop Drummers

I've only see two hip hop acts who have had them (Jay Zand Akala's)but they were both class, so I'm going to generalise and they that they're all mint

too*
