Any good? Which are best?

  • don't know but I just orderd "Trout Mask Replica"

    : )

  • ive only read the NMH and the Celine Dion ones

    Both were excellent.

    • i've got the nmh one and the loveless one

      both are good.
i think thy're quite hit and miss given that they have a different writer for each one.

the smiths one is a novel i think.

      • The NMH one is really great

        I loved it!

        • this

but I will automaticall love anything to do with NMH... seriously though, it was very interesting, and provided a brilliant insight into the secretive world of E6

  • i want to read the one for Let It Be by The Replacements

    Colin Meloy wrote it :D

    • It's crap

I imported it from The States because I like the album and The Decemberists, and though it was a match made in heaven. Boy was I ever wrong, it's a badly-written memoir of Colin Meloy as a teenage cub scout, and if anything made me like him, and Let it Be, a lot less.

  • the NMH

is good, not what i was expecting though

  • NMH & Loveless are great

Daydream Nation definately is not. cringey arse licking all the way through. you dont want fanboy gushing in a book.

      !

are the minutemen and GBV ones worth buying?

      • I swear these were announced ages ago...like 18 months?

They're taking their time relesasing them...

      • well done to them for doing 36 chambers

        winner!

      • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

wow so many good albums there!!!

    • I enjoyed these two best as well ^

Has anyone read the Unknown Pleasures one?

  • I have the 69 Love Songs one,

which is essentially a hardcopy of this http://69lovesongs.info/wiki/index.cgi?69_Love_Songs It's nice enough to dip into but I'm not too impressed by the design, type and paper though. A bit tacky.

  • Low

by Bowie is the one I have got, and it is pretty good.

    • I have NHM and GBV ones

both good. GBV one has a crazy story about some guy that was studying Pollard's lyrics for his PHD and following one set of lyrics attempted to climb the eiffel tower and died!

Does anyone know if the Marquee Moon ever came out?

  • 20 Jazz funk greats is good.

But the Double Nickles on the Dime one isn't that great, let's face it when you go through and album song by song and the said album contains about 45 songs it's going to drag after a while.

    • ah thats what the SY one was like

i dont like the song talk throughs, i prefer cool anecdotes and writing/touring/studio info

  • To answer all the

    • I've got the one on grace

      It's shite. Absolute Shite.

      • LOW / bowie

        is fantastic. really great.
the stevie wonder one is one long snooze.
the in utero one is a winner too.

      • yeah but how's the book?

        ithankyou

  • I M H O . . .

The best one that I've read was Armed Forces by Elvis Costello and the Attractions - a really good read; detailed, multidisciplinary and well-researched.

Thought the Low one was OK, and the Doolittle one was crap - it seemed to just be about Black Francis driving around in his car, didn't find it enlightening at all.

  • I've read the OK Computer one

It's very... technical. Breaks every song down into bits. Mildly interesting, but not essential.

  • I have both NMH and

Doolittle - both alright, no more.

  • what's the Harvest one like

    anyone?

    • oh, and

      Murmur?

    • The Forever Changes one

      is pretty bad.

Not so much about the recording and writing of the music but about the author trying desperately to link the lyrics to American phrophecy, playwritings, novels etc that Arthur Lee may or may not have read and be influenced by.

It is actually quite a difficult read.
