Crime at Glastonbury dramatically increasing on the same year a big hip hop star headlines, coincide

I've been reading today about how the crime figures at Glastonbury have more then doubled this year compared to last years festival and it got me thinking.

As there were many tickets remained unsold for a long time(which from some corners was blamed on Jay Z) leading to many people who perhaps may not have considered going before to attend and SUDDENLY there is a big rise in Crime.

On Friday when 127 thefts had been reported compared to 19 the year before the police blamed this rise on "the previous days hot conditions".

Seriously, this may be just me being stupid, but since when has it being sunny meant people are more likely to steal from someone? Is this just the Police trying to be overly politically correct and coming up with a reason for the thefts that doesn't relate to Jay Z for fear of being branded racist.

ps.

I apologize for my terrible grammar, I've lost my glasses.

Winehouse was there

She probably committed a good 123 of those thefts, the skanky auld slag.

i just saw the Hooisers play on the highlights

crime rates in my house just went up 100%

editors

remind me of an english national.

Classic Laverne

And the Hoosiers are the band the Shins could have been.

Please

Don't tell me she actually said that!

I'm afraid she did.

One of the most stupid comments I have ever heard anyone say while talking about music.

just to clarify...

she said the The National were like an American Editors.

this heathen baboon must be skinned

what sort of a wanker says that. seriously its making me mad!!

baahahahahahaha

right.

The hotter it is

or the less solidly it rains the more people drink......that has consequences. 'Hilarious' japes ending in minor crimes and much tears.

I agree

but there has been nice weather on the first couple of days before the music starts before and there still hasn't been this many crimes, has there?

There may have been

but I don't have such numbers to hand, I'm just thinking aloud based on what you said in the thread intro.

....

I also would have thought figures for last year were exceptional low, due to everyone staying in their tents.

It didn't seem particluarly threatening this year. From what I'd heard crime figures were down.

^

agree
nothing to do with hip hop you moron

It was hardly opinion

more speculation with a view to starting a discussion surely?

I think

Your pretty much have hit the nail on the head here but the Pc corect brigade and the pc correct police will not like it !!!. I can assure you there is far more crime at rap acts gigs than rock acts - remember the shootings at the astoria ? every hip hop /rap gig in london brings trouble - its no suprsise crime goes up at a major festival wehen a big hip hop act headliens - a lot of you on this site need to grow up and get real and stop living behind tinted spectacles !!

Still

ROCKIN!

Absolute Crap

Black men on stage do NOT increase crime rates. Grow up.

do the math

its simple.less mud.easier to move around.therefore easier to nick stuff.i blame will young

...s

*pedantic*

You really believe that?

I'd heard that the numbers of police and security were reduced this year because the crime figures had been so low in the previous year. The organisers golt complacent... Combine this with better weather=more empty tents and opportunities for thefts.
Nothing to do with Jay Z you massive bell.

Seconded.

Yoko-oh-just-fuck-off!

oh man

literally A MILLION REPLIES. This is going to be apocalyptic.

coincide?

coincide!

or maybe you're right, maybe the black man did steal all the wallets....

I think

the thread title may have been cut due to length?

shit!

that G so fly he can steal yo shit wi'out moving off da stage! SUPERFLY! BUM RUSH IN YO TENT.

you fool.

GOOD ONE!

SOMETIMES, WHEN THEY HAVE A HIP HOP GIG IN A NORMAL VENUE, THEY DON'T SELL AS MANY DRINKS BECAUSE, LIKE, ALL THE AUDIENCE ARE TOO BUSY GETTING STONED INSTEAD!

It was obviously

all the blacks.

Or the Jews...

That's what you get when you book Leonard Cohen.

GAYS.

GAYS did it. I blame Beth Ditto. GAY & FAT.

Fat people did it.

It was sunny so they were out looking for extra food money.

CHRIST.

ha!

that made me laugh enough to make this unbelievably twattish thread worthwhile. can yoko oh no legitimately be banned?

Aw, 17 years old.

Bless.

Why don't you

See if you can find others who share your view and start a political party?

I'd start by looking in Barking and Dagenahm.

To be fair,

jay z does rap about how he built himself up from being a criminal (selling crack etc.) and it would make sense that some of his more hardcore fans may have similar ideas as their idol.

How many fans of norwegian satanic black metal

... burn churches? Oh wait, bad example.

you're all

idiots

cant you see

how the liberal politically correct jewish black socialist conspiracy is stealing our jobs durpy durpy durp ?

I say we send darky back to the coffee plantations

Then let's see him try to steal from our tents when we're watching Mark Ronson.

was talking

about his lyrics nothing to do with being black, and i personally dont think it had anything to do with the overall jump in crime. just trying to put across other side of the argument.

no

it is police subterfuge so fools rail harder in the oppersite direction and they get what they wanted in the start without looking bad.

Would have thought it was because it is easier to get tickets

So a gang of thieves could quite easily get in there, as you could buy tickets on the day, rather than last year with registering a month before and hammering away at the computer for an hour. You would have to have been fairly committed to stealing if you wanted to do so last year.

Doesn't have anything to with JayZ unless you take him as being the main reason it didn't sell out.

Yup.

Petty criminals aren't generally the types to plan their activities months in advance.

Also correlation does not imply causality. YEAH

One of the reasons security was increased

when Mean Fiddler began running Glastonbury was because of the criminal types who attended the festival for easy pickings.
It makes sense when they loosen the application process due to poor sales that it will attract more of these types.
The weather thing makes perfect sense for 2 reasons:
1 People drink more and there behaviour changes
2 People spend less time in there tent, therefore it is an easier target for thiefs

it's quite funny how stupid people are sometimes.

the fact that some of you clearly need to look up the meaning of the word "opinion" is quite frankly shocking.

kthnxbye

yeah and you'd know all about opinions wouldn't you, eh, eh !

bet you've got loads of them ya clever opinion forming person.

or something.

I'm not sure I'm hearing you right but

well, he wanted to discuss his 'opinion' on an open forum thus sparking discussion.

You voice a silly 'opinion', expect people to refute it... and show it up as a STUPID opinion to have.

^what she said.

The world works by people expressing things, and others responding to those things. Or else we'd all be wandering round like idiot particles in a vacuum, barking our senseless ideas and concepts to an unreactive, unresponsive world. All arms hanging at our sides, tongues lolling, eyes looking in different directions.

but it wasn't his opinion

read the post again.

clarify?

your point is vague

Yeah,

what was your point about opinions? I don't geddit (hence the way i started my post)

it's clear from their post that..

1) they are not expressing their opinions, it's merely speculation.

2) it's a subject they're thinking about but they haven't reached any definite conclusion yet.

for some reason people seem to be slating the guy for his supposed opinions anyway, when truth be told he's made some valid points.
people are getting confused between discussing something that raises certian points and opinions.

this could've been worded slightly better..

..but i'm sure you'll understand where i'm coming from.

I don't know where you're going with this.

I think people (myself included) were picking up on a couple of things in the original post: first, the suggestion that lots of people who 'would not otherwise attend' went because of Jay-Z's slot.

A couple of things here: perfectly possible that he mean that the slower ticket sales somehow led to this whole demographic of stealy people coming along instead of the hardcore, first-day buyers. However, linking this in as Jay-Z's fault (for poor sales; tenuous ground there) is the first warning sign.

The second is that he suggests that the police are scrabbling for reasons without wanting to mention Jay-Z. Sorry, but people making ridiculous claims of PCism is an alarm bell for casual racism as far as I'm concerned. Why would the Po-Lice worry about blaming poor ticket sales? Nobody in their right mind would equate that as racism towards the perceived source of the poor sales.

no, really

you post on the "YEAH YOU MASSIVE RACIST!" side, and then you go all superior on everyone by saying that all the people calling him racist are massive idiots.

since when did i say anything on the "YEAH YOU MASSIVE RACIST" side

i wasn't even involved in the argument, are you immagining my posts or something.

that was a joke

and you shouldn't asume that becuase of that one post, i was against anything that Yoko Oh No said. i never posted any opinions on the matter, you read too much into a post, that essentially wasn't designed to do anything significant in terms of the points made.

i can see how you were under the impression that the post helped express my opinion but you shouldn't have asumed it did, this wasn't clear. you based your assumption on an unsubstantiated piece of evidence and then had the cheek to call me retarted because you thought i was contradicting myself.

if anyone is the retard, it's you.

haha

a joke, I got that it was a joke. I don't think that you actually want to gas blacks. But then what was the point of the joke? It looks a mighty lot like you're calling him racist. but if we're using that logic, i wasn't calling you retarded, because it isn't substantial evidence!

^winner

"i love how retarted you are"

that's pretty strong evidence if you ask me.

and if you were joking about me being retarted then i forgive you, although i'm not sure you were.

because it wasn't even really directed at him

just at the points in general, i didn't believe the post expressed Yokos views and i wasn't being completely serious anyway. i know you wern't to know this but i just felt that you read too much into my post and took it as gospel.

the people who did the security this year were new.

i'm sure this would count for something. Also, the fact that the headliners were all shit might have something to do with it. I know two people who like hip-hop and they both have criminal records. I think we should get Roger Cook on it.

In that case the crimes rates would be blamed on

many people who might not have considered to go before attending. Not on jay z. You fucking idiot.

Do people

on this website ever post their responses without putting an expletive at the end? 'aint no love...

pricks.

Fucking idiots need to learn how to post.

I wasn't saying that he was the reason for it. Just that this was the reason that most of the media gave for it not selling out like before. Eejit.

Good grief

OK... less mud means site much easier to get round. Site much easier to get round means it's much easier to quickly pass through a field of tents and steal stuff.

There could be any number of reasons why crime is up and yet you choose to centre in on just one with absolutely no basis whatsoever for your arguments. You should apologise for more than your terrible grammar because you're either a troll (in which case: making trouble about something like this isn't funny) or worse.

I've just checked out some stats.

There were less reported crimes and arrests this year than in 2002.

So who are we blaming for the 2002 figures? Coldplay? Moby? Hang on! Faithless! They got one of dem blacks in haven't they! YOU WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG!

Lazy, lazy, lazy

lazy, lazy, lazy casual racism.

Even I can see that the sun gets people out of their tents and offers more chances for opportunists to dip into their tents. If you just thought it through for ONE minute you'd have come up with that - you don't have to be Columbo you lazy, lazy, lazy fool.

Seriously, I hope you are just some numpty who's celebrating the end of their GCSEs by posting idiotic comments like this to provoke a response. Lazy.

It was publicised before the festival

That festivals are being targeted by gangs of organised criminals robbing people's tents - Glasto was hit hard because it was easy to get tickets, but expect it to be a theme of fests this year. Look at people's descriptions of what happened on efestivals.co.uk, having a light shined in their face "wrong tent mate" routine, it's all too similar to be unrelated.

Besides, it was the crowd for The Verve that put me on edge more than the one for Jay Z. After all, I thought no one bought tickets because Jay Z was playing?

I heard DiS's very own Mike Diver

likes to dance to Jay Z AND enjoys Dizzee Rascal. Thus by this deduction, he is Lord of the theives, no? Oh yeah he's white so maybe not.

crime increases in the summer

mainly due to people not being home as the weather is nice.

So why would Glastonbury be any different, less people hanging arounmd tents cos the weather is grrreat! so less eyewitnesses, more chance of getting away wid shit yo!!

surely though

it was all the skanky neil diamond fans? they all buy their music from petrol stations, therefore are CHEAP. therefore THIEVES.

No death/rapes reported though it would appear (yet), considering what happens at some festivals it seems relatively ok with I assume most being arrested for drugs offences... I thought Jay-Z was actually quite fun personally...
