She is so irritating. She really has no clue what she is on about
that was one of the most pointless things i've ever read
and i've read A LOT of pointless things. mostly the stuff i say.
pretty much
spot on.
damn good read.
What about the grumpy old buggers?
Surely we're the biggest "tribe" in indie. Bah.
thats another
paper onto the list of "do not touch with bargepole"
-
How did that get past the editor? Jesus.
what a load of cruft
a) The Kaisers and Snow Patrol are not different enough in terms of their demographic to merit separate categories.
b) Metronomy are NOT exemplars of 'Eighties post-punk with a drum machine slapped on top'.
c) I can't see where people like Patrick Wolf or Paul Hawkins and Thee Awkward Silences would fit in any of the four categories.
d) That was terrible.
The most cloying thing
is it's written by someone who thinks that writing about how Snow Patrol are a bit like Coldplay and the Kaiser Chiefs are on daytime radio a lot constitutes the unveiling of great overlooked truths.
nah
it's probably just some joyless journo with a deadline and a tiny column in the arts page to fill
I hope these coming 'documentaries on Channel 4' aren't anything like this
I'm too old for this shit.
It starts with this: 'celebrating the role of indie labels in pop over the past 50 years'
And yet half of the acts listed are on Univeral or one of their subsidiaries.
I don't think
the documentaries or initiative have anything to do with that, it's just the Observer have had a press release about it and commissioned one of their writers to 'just write about indie'.
I realise
I just dislike how they start with that, seemingly link the article in with the whole thing and then present something different. It's misleading to someone who doesn't know anything about the topic, the type the article seems aimed at.
I dunno, I'm caring too much. It's just bollocks all round really.
the worst thing
is that people are goin tae read this utter shite and actually think that they understand a whole fuckin genre ay music which dusnae exist.
stop fucking about
we're all hipster indie so lets stop kidding ourselves
feel free to speak about yourself.
I KNOW YOU ARE BUT WHAT AM I
a massive twat who thinks he's funnier than he is?
^ voice of reason
cool dude
oh stfu
what utter bollocks.
It's all shite, but actually what really irks me here is the use of "middle class" as derogatory term in the 'bedwetter indie' bit. It's thrown around a lot in terms of music and the idea that only certain social classes can make good music really pisses me off...
gb/2/artschool
:)
i agree with this
and i'm working class. i don't understand why dull bands like oasis and the enemy are raised way above their station for being working class when there are much better and more interesting ones that happen to be middle class
That's all selectivism by journos
in thrall to Lennon and Johnny Rotten mythologies who never like to dwell on the family backgrounds of Jagger and Richards or Joe Strummer. In discussions of their relative addictions Winehouse's father being a cab driver gets mentioned far more often than Doherty's being an Army officer.
exactly
and i don't know who it affects? i'm not well off and i like bands like foals, the horrors, ox. eagle. lion. man, these new puritans, vampire weekend etc who are better off than me. i don't think anyone except for paul calf characters moaning about students are bothered about class in music
Yep,
that's definitely the worst, and most uninformative article i've ever had the misfortune of scanning. There isn't even the slightest hint of satire, which in itself highly disturbing - but when coupled with the language and composition of the article is just plain abomination.
Bloody good read that
bloody good
I'm not sure
if the article is meant to be taken completely seriously...
^ this
surely it cant be. what utter nonsense.
not
even worth reading let alone worrying about.
Is this thread for real?
The piece is obviously a quick space filler pisstake.
Is there a category for thin skinned holier than thou dweebs?
why?
Is that where you'd fit in? ;)
yeah it's just a stupid written-in-5-mins piece
Am surprised that Fiery Furnaces are put in hipster indie though. Never heard them referred to as that before.
what a load of bollocks
"indie tribes"
LOL
That was painful reading
Oh man I don't fit into any of those
Indie Tribes :(
I have been outcast yet again...
That was literally the worst thing ever.
EVER.
i dunno
this is pretty bad perception of indie...

I hate that girl
