I totally adore this group... possibly my fave hip hop act. (competing with Public Enemy and De La Soul... mmm).
I love the jazzy beats... the way that Q-Tips nasal voice gels so well with Phifes sort of gravelly delivery. The thoughtful lyrics, which are often hilarious... The way you can just listen to them and go beserk with joy. ahhhhh so nice.
Just such fun music really... I've never seen them DiScussed, so I thought I'd start the fire myself! Blasting their way to the top of my last.fm chart as we speak.
They are brilliant
I don't think I have heard an album by them, but many a 12" in mixes and all that are just ace :)
Q-Tip is a legend, who else rapped with him I forget the names right now.
its him and phife
he also did loads of collab with De La, Jungle Brothers, and many others...
yoou should get an album!! They are so great... Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders are my 2 faves.
Phife Dogg
Of course he is ace too.
Yeah they had that massive colaberation thingy that had a name and everything.
Low End Theory is the one I have heard lots about, man they are such a brilliant gruop.
I wounder what Phife is up to now I ee Q-Tip doin the odd bita rappin but not Phife...
ATCQ have reformed...
so that is what they are all doing!! Should be in the UK next year, very excited. Not quite sure what collab you are on about... I'm very interested though!!! Are you thinking of the native tongues posse?
phife does have an album about somewhere... year 2000 i think. Never heard it.
yeah native tonges posse
I was thinkin of.
It would be so cool to see um play.
cursory scan thrpugh wiki...
phife is also working on a second album
nice
Tip n Phife compliment each other so well, Q with the nasel flow Phife with the deep one it was ace.
Native Tongues Posse
thats the the group name
ah yeah
thats not actually a group per se, just an umbrella name for all those guys... their 'crew,' if you will... originally De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Jungle Brothers (ace group)... others joined... like Mos Def, Black Sheep, Queen Latifah... Common... hmmm can't remember any others.
Latifah
could do some mad flows back in the day too.
Jungle Brothers are ace I was talkin to Cadance Weapon about them at Nasty Fest when I bought the CD off him as he was using some lyrics of theirs at the end of one of his tunes.... I'll house you, I'll house you, your in my hut now!
my hilarious fave JB chorus..
'I'm gonna do ya... I'm gonna do ya... I'm gonna do ya... whooahhaoha'
from the rather self explanitory 'I'm gonna do ya'...
though they did have their fair share of incredible non joke songs... I'll house you is incredible, and bizarrely on my local pubs jukebox.... good way to freak out the cretins that live around my area.
hahahah
Ace juke box choice.
I havent heard from JB for ages either in ages. They kinda did some lame stuff in teh big beat era and I aint heard owt since.
first 2 albums
all you need.

I will put them on my ever expanding wish list ;)

I Left My Wallet in El Segundo
Fatboy Slim did a wicked mix of that tune under another name back in the day, their was a video for it and everything. It was ace.
Back in the days when I was a teenager
Before I had status and before I had a pager
