Drowned in Sound

i will start the list with 'crazy on the weekend' by sunhouse, got record in the month in uncut magazine. a soulful, brused gem of a record with the distinctly british lost in a non-descript city that stereophonics briefly caught, and doves pedal on all of their records.

any album

by Terry Reid and Lewis Taylor, both criminally underrated/recognised.

Giant Steps - Boo Radleys

...hmmm not sure about 'lost' though. That said, does 'lost' now mean 'obscure release from band unfairly forced to pursue other careers in the face of massive indifference and lack of public appetite for musical innovation, lack of opportunity to purchase said product in generic supermarket notwithstanding'?

^

One of my faves of all time. About 10 genres spanned over the 17 tracks - wish more bands were (allowed to be)that inventive...

Pioneer Soundtracks by Jack

I Was The King, I Really Was The King by Animals That Swim

BRITAIN.

The closer I get

courtesy of Six by seven.

And I prefer Cmon kids to Giant steps. In fact when I say prefer, I mean rate as the 6th best album of all time. Roughly...

definitely these two

fine choices. also:

jacob's mouse - i'm scared
kenickie - get in

doubtless lots more, but this is earlier than i'd usually care to be awake.

the sun is often out by the longpigs

is what i generally say in these threads.

twenty twenty sound

by Dark Star

actually another one

is definitely When Its All Over We Still Have To Clear Up by Snow Patrol. Not in the sense the band have been forgotten about, as of course they haven't, and are now a household name.

But due to their success and dumbing down of their output I guess it's easy to forget just how great this album is. Definitely one of the top 10 British albums since the turn of the century.

soul kiss

glide divine by Spectrum

Copperpot Journals - Pilots

Also, Aconite Thrill - Recliner, simply because people seem to have overlooked this album in favour of Meet Me In St Louis'.

Michael Chapman

Fully Qualified Survivor

YES!

Aconite thrill are criminally underrated. They are mathy in a way no other bands are. Any fans of Meet Me In St Louis should really check this album out. I have never really met anyone else who is into this album.

You've not met me, then.

Hi, I'm waterwings.

London Posse

"Gangster Chronicle"

^^^ That and

'Ragamuffin Hip Hop' by Asher D and Daddy Freddy
'Patriot Games' by Gunshot
'Soft Machine Vol. 2' by ummm... Soft Machine.

"a gilded eternity" by loop

"think pink" by twink
"first utterance" by comus
"sea shanties" by high tide
"power of the picts" by writing on the wall
"the time is near" by keef hartley band
"split" by groundhogs

basically lots of early seventies heavy rock that only smelly old men in overcoats care about anymore.

Save the Year - The Tenderfoot

I totally love that record. Brighton scenesters maybe, but with a nice line in cynical and bittersweet indiepop.

And, er, 'Please Get My Name Right' by Twiggy is probably a true lost classic. It really is fantastic.

Victory Parts

by AC Acoustics is a good a scottish album as any you'll hear. Yes, I have heard Young Team.

Totally agree about Animals that Swim as well- a fantastic album that sank without trace. Has anyone heard Workshy? I can't track it down anywhere :(

yes

AC Acoustics were ace!

good call

Stunt Girl is awesome, and I Messiah, Am Jailer is a perfect pop song.

<slap>

technically half kiwis but The Julie Dolphin's album Lit is absolutely brilliant and one of the most overlooked albums I can think of, it's either a punked up cocteau twins/lush or a sedated daisy chainsaw...

Curved Air - Air Conditioning

Genius

Disco Inferno

D.I Go Pop

and Technicolour aint half bad either

Slapp Happy - Sort Of

and their stuff with Henry Cow.

Jocasta's

No Coincidence. Yes I was one of the several hundred people who bought a copy waaaay back...1997?

Some of the album was rather gauche, but there were some excellent tracks on it - Something to Say being a rather lovely paean to love lost.

Ooh found it! Sound's rather quiet.

I remember getting all the singles and being massively disappointed by the album.

I think the song Go was pushed quite heavily on the radio but they didn't amount to anything. I couldn't imagine listening to them now.
Last I heard was that the singer became a drug addict and Dot Cotton saved him with the help of some monks.

The Magical World of the Strands

Michael Head & The Strands - "The Magical World of the Strands". The guy out of Shack. Lovely, lovely album.

^ this.

What a piece of work.

"Sapphie" by Richard Youngs

Everyone should own this album.

Oh and while i'm at it...

god this album was depressing. don't watch these links if yer in a bad mood.

Legacy was amazing.

I think they'd have been massive had they not had such insane lyrics.

Television Personalities - And Don't The Kids Just Love It

Why the fuck don't these guys get the credit they deserve? truly amazing and one of the most overlooked bands ever.

Anything Gavin Clarke does is a lost classic.

I'd also like to add:

Shack- 'Waterpistol'

I Am Kloot- 'Natural History'

Ian Dury And The Blockheads

"Do It Yourself"

Traffic- "John Barleycorn Must Die" and "The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys"

Electric Wizard "Dope Throne"

Arthur Brown - "The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown"

The Stranglers - "Aural Sculpture"

The Soft Machine - "Third"

Caravan - "Cunning Stunts"

The Psychedelic Furs - S/T

"The Plastic Ono Band" by John Lennon
