dead facebook friends

this is a uniquely 21st century dilemma, and i hope not an entirely inappropriate question*...

if someone you vaguely know, who is your facebook friend, dies, what do you do? i find it kind of creepy having someone who's not alive anymore in my friends list, and looking on his profile, seeing that people are still accepting his friend requests days later. it was a guy i lived with in the first year of uni, when you don't get to choose your housemates, and he was alright, but had some serious issues. he choked to death on his own vomit the other day. this seems somehow inevitable, from what little i knew of him. he was seriously hospitalised for alcohol problems while at uni, and was always a bit of an idiot in that sense, not that i'm judging.

he still has this kind of unsettling internet presence though. do i delete him? do i just leave it? what do i do? i'd feel really fake writing something on his wall, especially since his girlfriend has left quite a heartbreaking message there (the only one left there so far, i don't think many people know what happened, and i only found out by chance) that i don't think anyone wants to usurp.

*obviously i'm not a massively callous person, and am very saddened by the death of someone i once knew, but they weren't a close friend, or even a friend really. i hadn't heard from them for years until being added on said social networking site a few weeks back, and though this is a slightly shocking situation, and something like facebook is obviously a triviality in the face of such a massive thing as death, and any answer to this question is as insignificant as the question itself, i thought it an interesting situation and one that i've never really heard brought up anywhere. basically, i hope you don't think i'm a cunt for asking this question.

there was a thread asking same question

if you search hard enough it was pretty interesting

I have a dead friend on myspace

he's still in my top friends and he ain't going anywhere. But you don't really have any reason to keep this guy on your facebook, George Carlin would have given him 6 weeks then crossed him out of his address book.

just leave it

and dont look at it. im sure whoever it was wouldnt have wanted to be erased from existence soon as he died

you're not a cunt

this is why i dislike

the 'you may also know' thing on facebook. It keeps telling me i should be friends with an old secondary school friend/acquaintance who died of a heart attack a couple of months ago

One of my dead friends still has his myspace account open

He passed away about a year ago and people still leave him comments. I send him messages about new music and stuff I think he'd like. For some strange reason I always think that he might read it. Is there internet in Heaven?

<void>

:'(

i'd have a lot of trouble

deleting a friend like that. but it might be the best way.

i couldn't bring myself to delete my friend's mobile phone number from my phone after he died, it was just too hard to press the delete button.
