I assume

it sounds like most of his solo career then

nope

it's not too bad actually. better than anything off 'Urban Hymns'. Though that isn't saying much.

in fact

the more I listen to it, the more I love it. those monkey vocals are catchy.

I wasn't blown away

it may grow on me... maybe

Better than anything off Urban Hymns??

Now Urban Hymns is hardly great, but it does have Cathcing The Butterfly on it. Love Is Noise is probably the worst thing they have ever recorded - I mean, it sounds like U2! I expect this from Ashcroft, but surely McAbe knows better.....

I don't think it sounds like U2 at all

it's epic, but that doesn't automatically make it sound like U2. As a lead single, of course this was going to be catchy and commercial (and I doubt it's a fair representation of what the whole record sounds like). They were of course one of the biggest bands of the 90's. I'm just glad that they didn't go in the 'Lucky Man' direction and produce a dreary Ashcroft ballad. At least you can imagine this song will translate much better live.

It's the plodding baseline

that reminds me of U2. Being realistic, there will probably be a fair few Ashcroft ballads on the album too. I was gutted when they reformed cause I knew they were just going to tarnish the memories even more than they did last time round, but then I started to think that maybe with McAbe fully on board it might be different. Maybe it'll grow on me, but my gut reaction having listened to it a couple of times on their myspace is that it's far worse than I could ever have imagined.

Ashcroft reformed the band for THIS?!

I'm a huge fan of The Verve, but i think "Love is Noise" is just completely boring. It just sounds like an Ashcroft solo single. Terrible.

No.

Ashcroft reformed the band for MONEY.

they ruined the song for me

it would have been okay without them.

i

could cry, that songs is tragic. i love (The) Verve up to 1995. i've been listening to the Northern Soul singles this week in preparation for Glasto (yeah i know, like they'll play them): Little Gem; I See The Door; Back On My Feet Again; You and Me; Grey Skies - all great, great bsides, definitely worth tracking down. This new song is a massive disappointment, absolute trash. Still going to catch them in the hope they'll play early stuff (hopeful for Gravity Grave) but just glad i got to seem them in '94.

click

on Slide Away and see how far this band have fallen. :(

Just heard it

Sounds like fucking Cher or something.

Like Cher

But without a chorus.

Sounds like.....

Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

I'll be watching the football on Sunday me thinks.

I heard it on my alarm radio this morning

and realised "wow this doesent use the same chord progression of every song for the past 10 years".

but it was still pretty "meh".

hmmm

Total MOR gash, what's the point in having Mcabe involved if you're not going to use his talents to the full!?The guy has been out of action for years and your comeback single has him buried under monkey noises that come out of Liam Gallagher's arsehole....The lyrics bastardise Blake's Jersalem in a terrible way. Its plodding crap, on a par with his last solo album.A shame after their initial sessions that harked by to their earlier work that appeared on the NME site.

I

haven't heard this yet but I'm on hold to the DVLA and I'm pretty sure that's what's being played. It sounds like shit down a phone.

Where can I hear it?

And, on a completely unrelated note:

It's on their Myspace page

I vote for it sounding like Texas.

its shit.

First impressions;

Are there any guitars on this track? I mean, I don't expect guitars on everything I listen to, but there is the small matter of Nick McCabe being my favourite guitarist in the World ever, and he seems conspicuous by his absence here. Unless it's him going "ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh". Which I doubt, somehow.

wtf ?

it's terrible, what's that really annoying incessant noise in the background of the song? loved 'Urban Hyns' and 'Northern Soul', this is terrible hopefully this is the worse song on the new LP, or elese this could quite possibly be one of the worst comeback LPs ever

i wish

Q would write reviews like that !
