I don't think an album has ever made me laugh so much on first listen, in a good way. What a noisy band, crazy arse riffs with shit loads of distortion and vocals I can't understand becuase of all the racket. It's almost like heavier, faster, guitar based shoegaze. This album is utter madness, it makes me excited just typing about it. ;D
it is pretty excellent
Hurray for you!
Funny music is teh best.
i can only listen to it for about 15 minutes
before it starts to really annoy me.
I can understand that..
..it's not the easiest listen all the way through. I do love it but maybe it would work better as a 25-30 minute album.
haha
Yes. I see exactly where this thread is coming from. You can't quite believe that its actually real after the first listen. But certainly in a good way.
Check out their DVD
The Power of Salad. I haven't managed to catch a live show yet but LB's performances look incredible, and Brian Chippendale's drumming- phenomenal!
they are pretty special live
I've been lucky enough to see them twice and right at the front.
I got in the right place for a gig in brighton
and was literally holding the drums up against the crowd surge. A little exhilarating and a bit scary. In an incredibly good way.
Excellent album
Although I still prefer 'Wonderful Rainbow'. Hello Morning/Assassins is the best opening to an album ever.
oh goodness
and the peel session of dracula mountain is perhaps the best thing ever
that's because the vocals are performed
through a telephone receiver strapped inside brian chippendale's cloth mask.
fucking insane, stupid and fantastic.
apparently the bass guitar has like two banjo strings and is tuned like a cello...??
either way, a very inventive band.
One banjo string I think
Which is the top string. His set up is bloody mental.
One of my favourite albums
LB are truly immense
Also
Wonderful Rainbow, if you haven't heard it, is almost on a par with Hypermagic Mountain :)
Will do.
Lightning Bolt are probably
one of my favourite bands ever.
each album is an absolute classic in my book!
they almost seem unreal to me, like cartoons or something; the artwork, the music, their appearance, their shows, the fact that they are essentially two blokes called brian.
fantastic fantastic band, that is just soooo much fun.
also see brian chippendale's two side projects black pus and mindflayer for more noise-based, absurd frolics.
The artwork is also amazing..
..I'm easily seduced by pretty colours, it's actually the only requirement of good album artwork. ;)
Hypermagic Mountain
is the worst of the 3 albums, it's pretty boring and repetative IMO
the first two are great though.
The others are better?
Does not compute. *Head blows off*
He's right y'know
Although I'd say Ride The Skies and Hypermagic Mountain are on par with each other.
BY THE POWER OF GREY SKULL
the song '13 monsters' on Ride The Skies
is better than anything on Hypermagic Mountain.
See 'Crown of Storms' from Wonderful Rainbow as well.
^^ this
I love that song - the best intro and drop ever.
yeah
the drummer releases books and comics... buy the big book called 'ninja', its one of my favourite possessions ever...
Yeah
ninja is ace, my sis has it. Also the whole of power of salad =

shoegaze?
Eh?
Still, excellent album.
It sounds like Kyuss on speed to me. Which can only be a good thing.
s'ok
the endless pummelling noise just gets a bit tiresome about 2/3s of the way through. It could definitely do with a little more dynamism, some light and shade.. a break in the onslaught basically. The endless nature of the noise just makes it all a bit monochrome by the time it finishes
I do like the way it ends though, just cutting away to silence as it appears to be entering another rising power riff. It shows they have some interest in the what i'm talking about above, but i reckon they didn't quite get the mixture right this time (Wonderful Rainbow is more successful in this respect). And so i don't particularly like listening to it all the way through
^^
this is exactly how I feel about it.
I think it's really boring
would love to see them live though.
I much prefer
Wonderful Rainbow. Hypermagic Mountain is still a welcome indulgence, however.
