I picked up his album 'Float' yesterday on the strength of the cover art and asked to listen to it, by the start of track 2 had decided to buy it. It's amazing, I really can't get over it, then since I got to work and looked up some internets stuff, thinking he was some composer in his thirties or something. Turns out the kid's 21, and it's his first album. Mental. Anyone heard his stuff?

YES!
Float is amazing. Got me through my exam revision. His age is crazy!
He was wonderful live with Efterklang last year, as well.
I just saw that they toured together
and am fair gutted I had no idea who either of them were at the time. Will have to go to Field Day to see Efterklang in August.
First saw him
when he played support for Efterklang at Bush Hall last year - he is a member of them when they tour. He played violin and piano during his own set, with a lot of looping and effects, not unlike an instrumental version of Final Fantasy. Bought a tour CDR on the strenght of that performance. 'Float' is less fragmented than the CDR and a lot of the tracks could easily be used as film soundtracks, all lingering and haunting. Highly recommended.
Yes
He is the man - very talented indivisual. Got to know him through his work with Efterklang, an incredible group of musicians!
Good player.
Was at Fitzroy and Richmond, late eighties to late nineties.
grab
all of his stuff - it is all equally amazing. Gorgeous music. Do you like Library Tapes, Sylvain Chauveau too? If they're new names, then you might enjoy them too!
I like what I've heard of Sylvain Chauveau
I'll try and find some Library Tapes definately, thanks
Library Tapes are far more sparse (sp?)
Much less epic / string centred. Still excellent though!
And Chauveau, of course. Mmmmmmmm.
As other people have mentioned
he was really impressive opening for Efterklang last year. Kept meaning to check out his stuff...
Got the Float promo through a few months ago
Reviewed, sent to Mike, bobbins. Can't understand why the recent Type stuff isn't more popular here. Grouper's latest went almost unnoticed too.
Which one do you mean?
Her new one isn't officially out yet, is it?
I <3 Type so much.

Such a pisser about the slowdown cos of money/distributor worries. That's why I never understand why Type stuff isn't more popular here amongst the Godspeed brigade. Support your owngrown imprints and that!
Loved Grouper and Chauveau:

.
That letters letters album is cracking, well worth checking out.
Listening to new grouper album now, it's ok, but i've never really 'got' her, maybe repeated listens are needed.
Took me a couple of listens to get the feel for it
But it's worth sticking with just for Invisible - choon!
yeah
he is awesome, talented young man
