BULLLLLLLLLLSHIT

Since the Beatles how many great bands have come out of Liverpool?

  • How the fuck is it not

    London.

    • Er...

      Stones...

      Er... Lily Allen?

    • it'll never be London

it's my home city but Manchester is far more important. Most bands who say they are from London probably moved there from somewhere else anywhere (a recent example being Bloc Party). It's the same for New York. Very few of the bands who say they are from there were actually born there.

Manchester has had bands both big and pioneering (the likes of Oasis, Stone Roses and Joy Division alongside the likes of Magazine, the Buzzcocks and the Smiths).

  • Non

    Manchester wins

    • Too right

      we've got Cats In Paris.

  • Least musical. One of them anyway.

The Mersey beat bands were brilliant, but who've they had after? Echo and the Bunnymen with That Song? The Las? The Coral?

All are alright bands I spose. Never got into them.

But I think Manchester is probably it.

I can't STAND 'MaDcHeSter' and all that fucking horrible psuedo nostalgia that goes with it, but their list of good bands is probably longer than anyone else's. They had no-one in the 60s mind.

  • PS - how is Sheffield number 2?

    Pulp. Arctics. Milburn?

    • 65DOS?

surely a few brownie points for them?

  • The La's are the best ever band to come out of Liverpool.

  • Why do New Order always get mentioned in the same breath as Manchester,

instead of Joy Division? Fuck New Order. They're shite.

  • name one good band to come out of liverpool

    • Err...

      The Beatles

      ?

      • o rly? who are they?

anyway , its obviously london. it's ridiculous to suggest anything else. the beatles ruined liverpools music scene, everything after it, with a few exceptions, has been piss versions of the beatles. like manchester and the smiths

    • Gerry and the Pacemakers - Ferry Cross The Mersey

      very strong record.

  • .

    The Beatles
    The La's
    ...
    Joy Division
    Happy Mondays
    The Stone Roses
    Oasis
    Doves
    Elbow

    Manchester are the winnorz.

    • clearly Liverpool in that case

    • ..

      the courteeners
      the ting tings
      ...
      most good things

      london is winnorz

  • That's only half the story

    • Cast

All change and Mother Nature Calls were top. The Aeroplanes were shithot for a couple of years too.

    • Leicester - home of Kasabian, Showaddywaddy and Engelbert Humperdinck

      :|

      • yeah clearly better than

"The Who, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Clash"

  • To be fair

Its had more no 1s than any other city. Admittedly, if you take away the spice girls and 3 lions your not left with all that much. It has got a pretty thriving small gig circuit tho.

Manchester's probably the city with the closest claim. I heard somewhere its got more venues per capita than any other city.

London's got loads of bands yeah, but most of them move their cos its easier to get noticed if the NME don't have to go more than a couple of tube stops to see them. The number of bands it actually generated itself probably isnt that great.

To be honest though, Ive got no idea how you'd go about actually measuing this kind of thing. Whatever method they used is bound to be bollocks.

    • Im sure...

Glasgow has had some decent bands right!!

      Yummy Fur
      My Bloody Valentine
      Errors
      Mogwai
      Jesus and Mary Chain
      1990s
      Delgados
      Areogramme
      Lulu
      Urusei Yatsura
      Deacon Blue
      Primal Scream
      Orange Juice
      The Pastels
      Vaselines

      etc etc

Glasgow like most Cities has some pure shite though...

  • As if

As a regional town. Liverpool completely owns everywhere else when it comes to musical output.

  • ou est leeds?
