'Orchestra Of Bubbles'. This is one ofthe best pieces of electronic music in the last 5 years. I thought the new Flying Lotus was good, but this is just a devastating work from start-to-finish. Pity that 'Sool' is just a bit meh....
That 'guide to minimal techno' thread is way too long for work, so just lookin for quick recommendations along the same lines. I'll have a look at the longer thread later on when i've got some coffee.
I've always prefered Walls !
I found Walls a bit dull...
Sayin that, only listened to it a couple of times and it's likely that it rewards repeat listening(?)
Very much so !
It ended up not leaving my headphones for months...
walls is
amazing, so is orchestra, both very different though
Apparats
recent solo album.
Cracking album you have made me just stick it on
Minilogue - Animals is a damn good record maybe not quite like Orcestra of bubbles but I can't stop playing it.
Will investigate Jimi
you hardly ever recommend something i won't like. Good work!
cool
Its 2 discs all of original material but mixed like a DJ set. First disc full of minimal lovely dance stuff. Second disc full of ambient stuff its well nice.
Dont let the minimal thread over face ya its a beauty hehe
Cheers
Wish the thread was slightly more 'minimal' like it's namesake. Ah well...i'll tackle it with much gusto later on.
we kinda got caried away really
its more of a progressive style thread than a minimal aint it hehe
Orchestra
of Bubbles is great. Along those lines I'd recommend:
Holden - The Idiots Are Winning, even better then Orchestra.
Isolle - We Are Monster is great in parts.
New Four Tet brilliant over repeated listening.
The Field - Sound of Light.
Ricardo Villalobos - Fabric 36, this has grown on me the last couple of months. Taken a while though.
Sool.
I agree. 'Meh' absolutely the right word for it.
Thanks
for the tips.
Ricardo Villalobos
Fabric Mix is really good. It took me a little while to get into it to but its a mad one and full of great tracks.
^yes yes yes
It's one hell of a journey and by far my favourite fabric compilation. It is essentially a studio album after all. Weird and pumping in all the right places.
Thoroughly recommended to anyone who doesn't have it.
It's a cracking album
Jet and Rotary are fantastic tunes. Haven't heard Sool (still) yet though...
the sad truth
is that there isn't anything out there as good as orchestra of bubbles. ellen allien's solo stuff is pretty boring, and apparat's can be pretty obtuse, though his last album is really good.
but... for similar production you should check out:
gui boratto - chromophobia
sascha funke - bravo
sascha funke - mango
booka shade - movements (not their latest because it sucks)
claude von stroke - who's afraid of detroit
and some individual tracks:
gui boratto - (supermayer remix)
oliver raymond - domino
reinhard voigt - in aller freundschaft
chaim - moon
dettman & klock - dawning
metro area - miura
you might like the mole's latest album as well, though i'm not that into it.
Got Gui Boratto 'Chromophobia'...pretty good
Thanks for all those tips.
Just as i saw the surname Voight it reminded me. Dunno if anyone has got it, but someone said that Kompakt have just released a Gas 4CD retrospective that is supposed to be a bit special. Anyone got it?
It's
on Indietorrents at the moment, not downloaded it yet though.
Hmmm..tempting
I think i'll buy it though. I love box-set things like this:
http://www.normanrecords.com/records/99300
haven't got it yet
but from the reviews i'm thinking we should all go out and buy it!
also also also
efdemin's self-titled record is brilliant
and the orb's okie dokie kompakt record is really good, though a bit boring in places
you might also like future rock by strategy. it's very hazy and disco-y, not really like orchestra of bubbles, but it's still awesome
thats on my wish list
of things to buy soon it looks brilliant and the reviews are glowing.
I implore you to buy everything
by Ricardo Villalobos. My personal favourite is probably Alchofo though...
how about My My?
