Sweet

Thanks for the info.

looking forward to this,

mainly for deerhunter and high places. i hope koko doesn't ruin it.

Of course Koko will ruin it

Koko ruins everything.

Except for !!! last year

That was immense

I emailed them about the Koko thing

and heard back "don't know about the Koko thing". I'm sure Koko will have absolutely NO effect on LIARS, don't let it effect you.

of course, koko isn't going to admit

their own sound is shit! to be fair, it was alright last night

I saw them last night in leeds

they were brilliant, both high places and Deerhinter.... oh yeah it wasn't a Liars sow....

Deerhunter played an ace set with lots of new stuff and it was amazing. I even got to play Bradfords guitar a little at the end in the encore :)

Have fun

please can we have

the stage times.

much obliged!

Oh James, you are such an exploder

what'dja dive on stage and monkey the strings a bit or did he just hand it over to ya? I can see you now.

He past it to me from the stage

I was in the audiance. The bass player did the same. It was ace :)

I'm excited too..

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Liars - I just hope my photos come out ok! I f**king love this band!

I'll be there

Stage times, anyone?

so. excited!!!!!!!1

:D

This is one of those "shot in the dark" gigs for me

I've not really heard much by any of the bands playing, but friends have strongly recommended them so I've decided to see what all the fuss is about.

i won the tickets!

i am happy :D

Liars are always brilliant live

and Deerhunter were great at Primavera. I've heard very bad things about the sound at Koko though which doesn't bode well.

yeah i was bummed

when liars had to withdraw from their battles support slot, so really looking forward to seeing them tonight. deerhunter were brill at primavera!

still 50+ tickets left??

what time will high places be on? i may have to miss them :-(

there will be some tickets

available on the door for this.

yup

hi Jamie

what are the stage times please?

dont know, sorry

but as its three bands it'll probably be quite a busy night shedulewise and i'd recommend getting there for 7.

when are you getting here?

will come and annoy you!

6:30ish

yeah!!!

i'm having afew pre-gig lagers at my flat alone in anticipation to this. i'm very excited about high places and deerhunter, more so than liars as i've had abit of a liars overload in the last 18 months.

so i keep thinking 'yeah deerhunter, high places' then i realise: 'liars too!'

should be fantastix

stage times

* Doors > 7:00pm

* HIGH PLACES > 7:30pm - 8.00pm

* DEERHUNTER > 8:15pm - 9.15pm

* LIARS > 9.30pm  11:00pm

thanks for that,

i've seen liars three times in the last year and in comparison to their recorded output, i've been a little disappointed. impress me liars, impress me.

...

gig was ace, crowd was fucking awful. I'm a little too drunk to go into details but seriously it seemed like most of the crowd didn't even know why they were there.

Totally with you on that!

I felt i was the only one who knew the songs and wanted to dance - at one point i looked round and couldn't see anyone getting lost in it.

BAD FORM.

I enjoyed the gig (i fucking love Liars) but the general atmosphere and lack of encompassing sound stopped me from losing myself which was an almighty f**king SHAME. :(

Did you get some good photos?

It would be cool to see um sometime.

Deerhunter are ace :)

I reviewed last nights deerhunter gig in leeds on my blog http://thesonicminefeild.blogspot.com/2008/06/deerhunter-high-places-chops-live_18.html if any one is fussed.

chops were pretty entertaining at the very least

at one point the singer was playing alto sax through a vocoder, over midi orchestral stabs and schizophrenic drumming..

so it was you who got that lovely guitar.. i would have legged it..

it was indeed me who got the lovely guitar

it was so cool.

I wish I had seen CHOPS they sounded like loadsa fun from the myspace damn trains and waiting around ffor my sis to finish work hehe

Ooo yes after...

I get over this little hangover, take a photo of some British Gas guy in Staines *groan* photos will be sorted! :D

Not sure if they're any good though - i was too busy wanting to dance! And to be honest the lack of a pit but with a barrier was just bloody bizarre! So both dancing and photos were half and half!

Still love Liars though (in case i haven't mentioned it before...!) ;D

Oh and Deerhunter

were brilliant (but my photos officially suck of them!)

hehe cool

good luck doin British Gas Photos and I look forward to seein what ya got hehe.

exactly

hardly anyone even moved around during 'plaster casts of everything' which to me just seems bizzare, ho-hum I still had a great night.

All three bands were amazing

One of the best gigs I've been to in ages.

And The Klaxons guitarist was standing behind me ZOMGZ1111

yh i was standing next to all three of em at one point

the gig was sooo sick and i agree that the crowd were bit rubbish, everyone was probably too indie and didnt wanna show any emotion

^

poty

jesus christ.

overall,

High Places: more people should've seen this band - very impressive in a fairly large venue.

Deerhunter: amazing, amazing, amazing. new stuff sounds so much better live. vocals could've been a little louder at times but that's only a minor moan. some of the sounds they were generating were immense.

Liars: i really thought they wouldn't be too great tonight; glad i was proven wrong. percussion was stunning as usual and the stuff off 'they were wrong...' was absolutely fantastic - it translates rather well live.

Overall: great gig, despite paying £.70 for a can (yes a can) of john smith's!

i still hate koko.

A mixed bag

As stated previously, have never really listened to any of the bands before. Missed High Places, due to the immutable law of sod (when I arrive early there's no music for hours, when I arrive slightly later I miss the support) but Liars were a bit...meh. Had some really good moments, but they were often downright poor (the shitty, shitty crowd and ropey sound didn't help either).

Deerhunter on the other hand were fantastic and I really want to see them again in a better venue.

I was there and it was horrible!!!!

Saying that,it's only from a photographers point of view as there was no photo pit and I have no interest in any of the bands so I had to standin one place and suffer them all for three hours!
I didn't actually mind High Places but Deerhunter's set will be remembered as one of the dullest hours of my life and Liars came across as a bad Stars in your eyes Birthday Party!
I appreciate I'm not the target audience for these bands and the last act I saw at Koko (and enjoyed) were Alphabeat!
My pictures aren't bad but there's not as much variety as I would have liked as they're taken from the one spot.

angus was looking abit

thin on top too. it would be devestating if he went bald!

first time seeing Liars...

was really impressed. shambolic performance yet the songs still hold up.
High Places were interesting, but the sound was pretty bad - were her vocals supposed to be so low in the mix?
Deerhunter were really good, again the sound was a bit screwy. Seen them twice now (this year) and neither time they've played 'cryptograms'! They do play predominantly new stuff.
without a doubt the biggest rip-off venue in london for drinks - £3.70 for a can of Fosters!!!

..

really unimpressed last night. inevitably the sound was dire (seriously can't someone at Koko do something about this?!)i thought deerhunter's performance was completely obselete really. and liars were just really lacklustre, as were the crowd. the venue was not close to sell-out, i saw a huge number of people leave too.

but on the plus side! three klaxons were there! wowzer : /

I thought to suprise you guys and ask Liars for a DiS shout out

So I emailed them before I left for work yesterday (3:00 pm your time). When I got home there was a reply from Aaron saying they only just got the email right after the show - bummer, I wanted to shock you monkeys with a shout out from me "next time (he says)"- ha ha. Aaron also said he was having problems with his rental gear last night and he didn't have the money or time to fix it. On a better note; he mentioneed they have 5 new songs!

Shambolic is my new favorite word!

I thought you made it up- nope.

thanks

"Shambolic"

sorry, just wanted to say it again

^ all this.

really impressed with liars, thought they were brill though agree the crowd could have been more lively. not that i was very lively myself, but i was well into it.

deerhunter were good but they sounded way better at primavera, and high places suffered from the koko sound issues as well as far as i could tell (though i'm not sure what they're really supposed to sound like, not knowing their stuff).

i was noticing the bald patch too!

the last time I saw Jeff Buckley

I noticed he had gotten a bald patch at the back of the crown of his head since the last time I saw him (about a year) and it was a little shocking but I got over it. Angus is going to be amazingly cool even without hair or even with one of those Aussie (I'm an extra in Mad Max) hairdoos. Baldness must be a tough pill to swallow, my hat's off to anyone who has to deal w/ it. But know the show must go on. Oh, I can see it now "Liars disband over baldness tragedy" or "Liars tour cancelled due to baldness". Check out some of Angus' getups or his cro magnon stage prescence, no baldness is going to be a perfect fit and he'll make it look good- you'll see.

i don't disagree!

except, what do you mean by the aussie/mad max hairdos? like mullets?

he will still be mighty cool, don't get me wrong. i too feel for anyone who has to deal with baldness, though i've come around to finding some with this affliction rather attractive in recent times...

^^ agree with

you about Deerhunter sounding better at Primavera.

that open-air stage by the sea

did them wonders. ah barcelona.

..

i said that to my friend! and i quote 'poor angus has a nick cave-esque bald spot appearing y'know. in fact on the basis of this gig i think he is trying to emulate his career as well'

i missed high places

but deerhunter and liars were both awesome. sound from where i was standing was fine

Stood just below the sound desk

and the sound was perfect from there.

Liars were great, Deerhunter were pretty cool to, missed high places though, bummerrr.

what

was the merch like?

i got the coolest Liars t shirt

grey one
it was like

LL
IARS

drum fux

and yes that doesn't help too much

Wasn't blown away

Thought Deerhunter were disappointing for the first half of their set. Didn't seem that bothered, somewhat lethargic. Maybe they got fecked the night before or some of the band had fallen out or soemthing. Secons half of their set was really good though.

Liars were pretty good, top theatrics, did't blow me away though.

rubbish

otherwise i would have got a t-shirt

Was the first time I've seen Liars and I thought they were bloody good.

That Angus guy has to be one of the most magnetic frontmen I've ever seen. I've heard a few of their records and not really enjoyed them, but they're brilliant fun live.

Unfortunately I missed High Places and a song or two from Deerhunter as I was travelling in from Norwich, so I wasn't really in the right mood to enjoy Deerhunter that much.

They

were totally brilliant in Liverpool last night. Deerhunter were on top form too.
