Ive been on this site long enough
to realise that i am right. People take every oppurtunity they have to list as many obscure bands as possible, and are just pretentious as fuck.
Then explain this:
Recent news articles on Metallica, M.I.A, Portishead and Beck (all of whom are established acts with a huge fanbase), features on My Bloody Valentine, Mudhoney and Elbow (once again, all big bands), as well as a huge backing from DiSers for Radiohead. There's very little pretension here when it comes to music.

The amount of negativity on the music board does wind me up a bit, particularly when said users don't ever contribute anything positive, but at the same time don't start crying if someone on here says Coldplay are shit- it's bound to happen.

I think its a bit unfair to accuse users on her of being overly negative (not in all cases, but in most cases). For example last month there were a whole spate of people posting about the Cure, rediscovering them, seeing them live, getting into the back catalogue. Barely a bad word spoken (and the Cure, lest we forget, are a pretty 'big' band).
But yeah... Coldplay are part of the reasons why sites like this exist. Whatever 'alternative' music means - dubstep, indie, grindcore, ambient, hip-hop... whatever:
Coldplay are an example of what it is an alternative to.

My comment was aimed towards the new users who come across as a bit slow on the uptake. And I'd never deny the amount of positivity on these boards (see the minimal techno thread), but I find it annoying when people come on here to slate other people's tastes.

If ALL you do on these boards is slate other people's tastes then yeah... that's just stupid. But you can't expect it to be a total love-in all the time either.
There must be hunderds of forums in which you can express your love for Coldplay and find like minded friends, but here it's a bit like wearing an 'I love Rushdie' T Shirt in Tehran. Accept that people will not agree with you.

People have different tastes and all that. And yes, perhaps a topic on Coldplay isn't going to generate hundreds of 'OMGZ AMAZING!!11!' type responses (although they are a band that have been mentioned in the news section enough times). All about the balance innit!
