M.I.A. cancels UK and European dates to garden

World-pop extraordinaire M.I.A. has cancelled her upcoming UK and European dates.
Rather than Visa issues, Maya Arulpragasam cites exhaustion as the reason for the cancellations, crossing off performances at Hove, Exit, Roskilde and Latitude festivals, amongst various others standalone dates.
Her words to NYMag.com:
“I'm canceling because I feel like physically I just have to stop for a second. It's too insane, I was losing a sense of just, like, reality, you know what I mean? I think for an artist like me, it's so important for me to be in the streets and go to the same shop every day and see the same people and, like, communicate. And it's really difficult to do that when you're in the city every day for 24 hours. Like, I love connecting with my band, but I want to actually help them and be a part of peoples' lives. Which is really hard when you're on tour...It takes a lot out of you, physically. I make club music, which means I'm clubbing every night for, like, six months. Know what I mean? So now and again you finally just want to be gardening and get your nails done or something like that.”

Didn't turn up in Nottingham, back in December. No mention of it being cancelled on the website or anything at the time just a note on the door. I wouldn't bother buying tickets in advance to see her again.

She's got the best job in the world and still moans. And it's not like she tours relentlessly, she's got plenty of time to mingle with her friends and family. She's should consider herself lucky that she's not doing a mundane 9-5 job.

I didn't see her at Glastonbury last year because she dropped out at the last minute. And now she's cancelled the Roundhouse show that I already bought tickets for? Well, now I'm glad that I illegally downloaded both her albums, rather than paying for them.

I just can't belive it..
I was counting daaaays and daaaaays for Maya to see her on exit festival in serbia.. I just can't belive that she canceled it..
I understand the reason, but at first when she started to make SUCH A GOOD music, she should have realized that she will have a little bit different life.. So june and july (almost one month of tour.. isn't so freaky..)
So??? She will have aaaaaall time of the world to paint her nails and visit same shop.. My Goooooood! When i heard about this i thought that she has some sirous problems with health.. Hahaha gardening... Right!-

doesn't she realise she is going to offend her fans by talking about getting her nails done instead? i don't understand why she would say something so unguardedly selfish.
and gardening?! jesus christ. i wonder how many complaints from promoters her booking agent is currently dealing with. cancelling festivals at short notice because of gardening?!
if i was booking a festival next summer there's no way i'd even consider booking her again. bad luck, because we all know there's no more money left in record sales.
is it a joke? she really has no excuse. as a solo artist she should have absolute control with her manager over her schedule and she should have know not to book those dates.
physical exhaustion is just not an excuse. she sits for hours being driven from town to town. she doesn't need to load any equipment or to soundcheck anything other than her voice.
touring on the scale she tours is tiring because it keeps you away from home. physically it can actually be very relaxing.
she spends too long clubbing? maybe she should go to bed early. big deal.

you all need to shut the fuck up. it's so ironic that you people are calling her selfish. would you honestly want to watch her perform if she wasn't enthusiastic about it? i'm pretty sure that performing every night and flying around the world doesn't exactly boost someone's mental and physical energy. i'll apologize on her behalf for wanting to take a while off to do what you lazy motherfuckers already do 24/7. and it has nothing to do with money; if she cared that much, then she wouldn't fucking live in bedstuy.
