I have recently found loadsa ace dubstep from the likes of:

Rustie (a mix of anything from hiphop, electro, 8-bit, dubstep)

Flying Lotus (aqucrunk....hehehe)

Kode 9 (deep deep dubby stuff)

2562 (Techy, techno style dubstep with a break beat edge)

Appleblim (Again with the techno influenced dubstep)

Shackleton (deep and dark....mmmmm nice)

Dusk & Blackdown (dubby dark nice)

Am I missing anything thats going down and is brilliant right now or infact anytime?

cool

what kode9 stuff have you got, the album with spaceape is good, particulary the song glass.
Distance's album is good as is skream,Benga, boxcutter and vex'd

I was thinkin of getting some 12" of Kode 9's

as I only really have some mixes of his to listen to off rinse FM he is wiced.

I have Boxcutter Glyphic thats awsome I love that.

I keep hearing of Benga I will check him out.

I like the Shackleton stuff

If you ain't checked it, I recommend the Benga album too (although that may be one you're already aware of).

I havent heard much Benga

I'm fairly new to dubstep really Im just exploring at the moment.

Shackleton is ace I love the stuff he has been doing with Richardo Vilallobos the techno kinda dubstep cross over is of big interest to me.

also which do you prefer 1983 or los Angeles

At the moment, Los Angeles on first listen is better.

I just have Los Angeles

at the moment and I cant stop playing it, I love it alot already.

Check out

Hudson Mohawk who does stuff with rustie. He has recently signed with warp so should be putting out some really good stuff soon.

wicked cheers :)

I will get on the case with that.

There is

a freaking awesome mix of tweet's oops around by this guy if you can get it. Not sure of the label (stuff maybe?)

Dubsteezy

Rustie does some crazy shit. There's a Dutch producer called Martyn, check his beats. I wanna hear the new 2562 album that was mentioned in This Month In: Grime and Dubstep on Pitchfork...

its so good the 2562 album

I'm really impressed by it, its a kind of dubstep, techno, tech-house, Jamacain soundclash thing.... the beats are really fat and the bass shakes ya.

Sweet

Sounds like everything I like in one sick album!

I'd add

Pinch "Underwater Dancehall" (deep mysterious with a soulful twist)

I have had that on my amazin list for ages

and not got round to buyin it yet....

I'm a fool I know.

yeaaah!

i thought it too

^THIS!!!!

What a fantastic album. Perfect music to listen to in the sweltering heat.

tag

,

mary anne hobbs

is always worth a listen for dubstep.
listen again before wednesday night for an amazing mix by 2562. martyn, pinch and shakleton tunes on there, too. well into the kulture records she plays, so there's another to check for.

^ yep

but I must say I prefer the instrumental versions to the vocal ones. Airlock sounds truly immense through the a decent set of headphones though.

Not sure he's strictly dubstep (more like d'n'b I suppose) but Breakage's This Too Shall Pass album is also well worth checking out.

Why

has no-one said Burial?

I've never seen Burial as a dubstep artist

It sounds more like moody 2-step that anything else.

Sounds

like a description of dubstep to me.

But seriosuly, yeah I guess it's not like a lot of dubstep but definitely from that scene so worth a mention. Plus it's fucking amazing.

Absolutely

Both albums are great, but I've never got the comparisons between Burial and Kode 9 or Pinch, for example. I heard that Untrue would be the last Burial album...

Last album?

nooo

I cant wait for that

he has some new tunes on in apparently well from what that press release said anyway.

I'm already in love with all of Burial's stuff

so didnt mention him really.

Benga kicks arse

And Ikonika is pretty damn good, her Please/Simulacrum 12" is kinda bleepy techno/dubstep cross, ace.

And Skream, obviously.

Shackleton's pretty good, but I just don't see why everyone's going off on one about him. Maybe I should listen more, hmm.

Ikonika

sounds like my kinda thing definatly thanx

I haven't no

thanx :)

;)

nice

I love some of the quotes on his myspace

"After listening to the new Bullion joint, i drove back to Detroit, and punched my mom in the stomach. FILTHY." DJ HOUSE SHOES (USA)

hahahah

I still havent either hehehe

UP UP UP..

HORAY!

ace albums both of those :)

I liked your reveiw too btw

keep um coming.

*thumbs up*

Rusko

is great live, and his recent remix of Adele's 'Cold Shoulder' is the excellent. Also Caspa and Rusko's Fabric Live is a abit like a dubstep best of 2007 compiliation!

oh yeah

I have heard of Caspa & Rusko's Fabric mix, nice one.

Rusko = lol

In terms of dubstep thats not mind numbingly macho, predictable and boring you should check Appleblim's dubstep allstars vol. 6 mix, which is essentially a perfect snapshot of the more interesting end of the scene right now.

Hessle Audio, Punch Drunk, Skull Disco, Tectonic, Hyperdub and Apple Pips are all totally flawless labels, you should get ALL their releases.

A great radio show to keep up to date with all that's interesting in dubstep is the Ruffage Sessions, Thurs 8-10 on Sub FM. You can check an amazing show featuring Appleblim here:

http://www.dissensus.com/showthread.php?t=7831

Also I fail to see what's so dubstep about fly lo or Rustie, its hip hop surely?

Appleblim's mix is on my list for sure

I'm getting that ASAP.

good list there you know your stuff cheers. I will check out that show too.

Fly Lo and Rustie are more to the hip-hop persuasion your right but I think they cross over pretty well. I'm all up for a bit of cross polination to keep things flowing and heading in diffrent directions.

2562 is kind of on teh edge of dubstep too I think. As it takes alot of influence from techno and breakbeat.

It does indeed.

But it fulfills the basic criteria of being 140bpm and having a solid sub bass foundation. Most fly lo tunes can't be 140 and I'd presume the majority of Rustie beats aren't either. Although Rustie did remix that Zomby track and has some dubstep elements to his tracks he's far more influenced by american stuff like crunk and detroit techno.

For me the totally essential releases at the moment are Ramadanman's new 12":

http://www.myspace.com/ramadanman (check the vid of Villalobos playing it!)

And the first release on Abbleblim's Apple Pip's label; Marty's 'All I have is Memories / Suburbia'

I love it when Villalobos drops some dubstep

he is one of the reasons I am gettin into it I think as I kept hearing it in his mixes.

sweet man I'm well on the case with these sugestions.

Another Dubstep night in Cambridge - with Benga

Thursday 12th At Fez.

Let me know if you wanna give it a try and I'll put you on the list

even if you don't like it

or see it as dubstep you owe it to yourself to listen to untrue by burial

Rutten

by Skream is still such a tune!

Not convinced by the rest of his album though.

Burial rules!

I have all his albums and can't wait for more. I would quite easiloy stick him in the dubstep camp to be honest, I know its dispted some times but hell you hear alot of dubstep DJs playing his stuff.

samiyam

is good, not strictly dubstep. hip-hoppy, similar to rustie, fly-lo, hud-mo. looking forward to hearing his hyperdub stuff, should be more dubsteppy and it's an immpeccable label.

FLYamSAM

thats freakin Fly Lo and Samiyam aint it....

He is on a Ghostly Swim compilation I have.

I like that tune its wicked and well wonky. I will definatly check out some more Samiyam stuff cheers :)

Definitely check out

Geiom. A good place to start is Island Noise...Its got that oppressive, melancholic feel that seems to be quite appropriate for dubstep. Very IDM influenced.

Download

the amazing "Canopy Desire" from said album here: http://thisisdebaser.blogspot.com/2008/01/after-spending-two-solid-months-with.html

You wont regret it!

no joy :(

oh lame

hold on, ill upload and provide linkage

ooo nice

thanku I shall look out for it.

Someothers that have not been mentioned

N-Type
Hatcha
Mala
Distance

If anyone wants to come to the next dubstep night at Fez Cambridge let me know i'll put you on the free list. Normally a packed night had Benga and Skream so far. Next one is 12 July with Plastician

skream - make me

I need a new subwoofer

the

'Indian Dub' tune by Chase and Status is massive!

a couple:

bass clef is worth listening to, his debut album "a smile is a curve that straightens most things" is pretty top drawer
also recently been listening to a mix by parson who i'd recommend tooo

BUMP!

just cos I ordered SamIYam Rap Beats Vol.01 from his myspace he makes the cover him self and all that I cant wait to see/hear it, but its been a while so I emailed him. And he is well nice told me he is excited about his Hyperdub debut and has been rockin europe and UK and just got home to make up covers and all that for the CD ace. :)

I have also been on a dubstep spending spree, and got loads 2562 12" on the way the FlyLo EP with new stuff and LA stuff on it. The new Pinch 12", Spilf Dub Rustie mix, Ramadanman's Blimey is maybe my fav track right now I cant stopp playin it.

have you got benga yet?

diary of an afro warrior is fuckin ace. 26 basslines, whoa! i wish i had decent speakers...

nope

its on my shoppin list though that one, I keep hearin his tracks on other stuff and my ears pricking up.

Steppas' Delight: Dubstep Present to Future

Which came out recently on Soul Jazz is a really good compilation. Has a lot of names already mentioned plus a few others, well worth a look.

nice

I think that might have the new Pinch tune on it I have ordered on 12" thats a cracker I will look into it thanx :)

<3 this music

i know it's a bit cheeky, but if anyone could hit me up with a link for Fabriclive 37 with Caspa & Rusko it would be much appreciated.

if you like that stuff

check out mike slott and kwes

cool thanx

I haven't heard of them before :)

they're both great

also if you like that try heralds of change

clue kid

benga and coki also...

x

yeah saw ya mention them

on da other thread nice one.

Mike Slott is wicked he has the of kiltter freaky beat thing goin on like FlyLo.

x

Peverelist

His latest (I think) 12" Infinity is Now is awesome.

Skream is the best DJ to go dance to I reckon but his stuff gets a bit dull over the course of an album. Would have said the same about Benga but since the albums had so many reccomendations here I might go back and give it another try.

I have quite a few Peverelist 12" now

he is brillaint one of my fav producers

If you live in London

And you haven't been already make sure you don't miss the next DMZ. Its the best dubstep night but it only happens once every two months, last one was about a month ago now I think.

Oops

jus checked yr profile. Might be wort a trip down from York? Thats quite a distance from Brixton tho'.

hahah

yeah man I would love to get to DMZ and FWD>> sometime.

I'm off to one in York on the weekend most probibly, it ont be up to those standards but Ramadanman and N-Type are playin so it should be wicked.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned him

(I haven't read the whole thread - sorry), but Martyn is making some spectacular techno influenced dubstep at the moment. 2562 is killing it as well, a few of his upcoming tunes will be out on Martyn's 3024 label. Here's a link to a mix Martyn did for Mary Ann Hobbs which is fucking lush. http://3024world.blogspot.com/2008/07/mary-anne-hobbs-bbc-radio1.html

Enjoy.

Martyn is king at the moment
