Ive been listening to The Fall for a few years now, but the only stuff i'm familiar with is stuff they did in the 1980's + LATWT, as well as their last 3 albums.
However, its just come to me that ive never really listened to any of the work MES did in the 90s, so some recommendations on their best records from 1990-2000 please?
Cheers guuuuys!
thread steal
best Fall 80's album pls?
i've only listened to albums here and there, i want the hot shit.
...
'The Light User Syndrome' is shit hot. I don't have all the 90's albums but that's really good.
"Extricate"
was pretty super - and The Infotainment Scan was good too. The 90's were a pretty good time for Fall albums, on the whole.

The Infotainment Scan
is probably the best of their 90s output. I quite like Middle Class Revolt as well, though that might just be me. Shift-Work and Light User Syndrome are pretty ropey, as is The Marshall Suite (though that does at least have Touch Sensitive on it).
The 'Cog Sinister' years
1992 - Code : Selfish
1991 - Shift Work
1990 - Extricate
Brix left, MES started his own label, and he came up with these neat little albums. But they are patchy compared to the 'Beggars Banquet' releases that pre dated them, which brings me on to...
1988 - I Am Kurious, Oranj
1988 - The Frenz Experiment
1986 - Bend Sinister
1985 - This Nation’s Saving Grace
1984 - The Wonderful & Frightening World of The Fall
Any of these albums are the best of 1980's Fall, all of them on Beggar's Banquet
id put
Grotesque (after the gramme) and Hex Enduction Hour in that list aswell.
Grotesque i find is a very underrated album.
^ agreed
Perverted by Language is outstanding as well. For my money MES is at his lyrical best on those early 80s albums.
To be honest, they never did a bad record in the 1980s
I love the 'pop trinity' of C:S, SW and Extricate
when Mark was joined by Mr Tune. (Although there's some filler, get the reissued versions, complete with all the remixes in their chart-bound sound glory... almost)
90's to 2000
go for Levitate and The Unutterable...
You won't regret it..... Then buy every album since.
The Unutterable
.
ive only got
hex enduction hour and the bc sessions box set. and a smattering of other random albums.
and to be honest, much as i love it im not provoked enough to want the entire back catalogue.
hex is magnificent tho.
the unutterable
seems like my best bet then. That is the album ive heard most positive reviews from this period. Although it was released just outside of the nineties. Then one of the others suggested in this thread afterwards....

deffo - one of their best
Millionth time I have said this...
The War of Intelligence - The Fontana Years.

1st time I've said this
the new album is great and '50 Year Old Man' is worth the purchase price alone.
