Why are
Paul Hawkins and Thee Awkward Silences and John Brianlove allowed to promote their music, but not people in shitty horrible NME bands?
Hell knows.
I guess it's a combination of absolute hypocrisy and the fact that we post on DiS a fair bit anyway (and know there are people here who come to our gigs and stuff) so it's not like we're trying to just sell something to people then fuck off, which is I guess what people tend to object to.
Plus I suppose the other thing is that there's no actual pretense that we're a music fan who's discovered some great new band and are upfront about it.
Two things I'd mentioned though
a) Your perception's wrong in that people have got pissed off with me plugging stuff before (especially when I used to plug my nights loads when I'd just started doing it) and you're questioning it now so it's not as if I (or I'm sure Brainlove) do it without criticism.
b) In this case it wasn't actually me doing it. I was gonna start a similar thread over the next couple of days but you can't really blame me for plugging my music when I'm not actually the one doing it...

Can I make it clear now that Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences are rapidly becoming the greatest artist(s) of 2008? If pop music was meant to be simple and accessible they tick the box, if lyrics were meant to be clever, interesting and/or witty, the box is ticked again, if artists were meant to be signed to outstanding record labels who are more focused on releasing records that tick important boxes rather than commercial ones, they tick that box too. ‘Don’t Blind Me With Science / Gentlemen on Crutches’ (Jezus Factory) is the latest single before debut album ‘We Are Not Other People’ (which doesn’t contain either of these tracks) comes out in September – salivation at the ready.
