saw them last night. It was one of those gigs where I'm sure everyone there was listening to something different to what I was hearin, it was pretty dull and the levels were all wrong (the bass drowned everything else out and the drums were non-existent for the first three songs), but the crowd were going insane for it. Walcott was about the only time I got into it, and that was the last song... Anyone else see them on this tour? Did you enjoy it?
The support band were pretty damn decent though, Screaming Lights.
nah
most people who have seen them live seem to think they were pretty average, its not just you.
I saw them last year supporting the Shins and they weren't anything special, but since then I've really gotten into them on record so I'll give them another shot :)
possibly
the best album to worst live performance ratio of any band I've seen, or am likely to see in my life.
I quite liked the album,
but they were dire at ATP. I haven't listened to the album since.
^This
admittedly they had a shit slot at atp, but it was rubbish.
"shit slot". tee hee
i thought
they were good at atp and i wasn't previously a fan, weird
I saw them at Electric Ballroom
I would say they are good live. But nothing more than that.
We were
stood to the left of the stage on the side where the keyboard player was, I think that might have affected how much I got into it, as I've never seen anyone look less like they were enjoying playing live than that guy. Miserable git!
I can't quite put my finger on what I didn't like about it, the songs weren't performed as much as they were, I dunno, 'done'. I felt I was watching a video or something, I was totally detached from it, it was like the songs were switched on for a few minutes then switched off again for applause.
I've found myself listening to the album more and more
But due to several live reports along these lines, I'm now really wary of seeing them live. I think the first time I do will be on the Other Stage at Glastonbury, and the prospect of them playing to such a huge outdoor crowd doesn't bode well
I really enjoyed it.
I thought the show was a lot better than last time i seen them. you have to remember that this is a band who are growing up in public as the success of the record has caught everyone by surprise.
I thought Screaming LIghts where excellent.
They had a little bit of all the great bands in there from Radiohead to Faithless
Saw them at the ABC in Glasgow...
and they were without doubt hampered by the ABC's habitual sound problems.
I don't think they will ever be a great energetic live band as its not their style but I feel the sound will have to be top drawer to get the best out of them. I think their sound will be lost outside say at the other stage at Glastonbury.
I still did enjoy them in Glasgow and I think their album is excellent but I doubt they will go down as one of the modern great live bands.
Also I think their album has a lot of intricacies on it....
that are going to be lost live!
DULL DULL DULL
they're so boring live.
Haven't seen them.
but they look boring boring boring live.
Truly dreadful at Primavera
this past weekend. Avoid.
When I saw them
I thought the same. I kept running the album versions of the songs through my head rather than listen to the live versions. They're not a bad band though. I plan to soundtrack my summer with their debut, love it.
i worked at the northumbria uni gig recnetly
and it was the worst shift ive ever had but when they came on and cleared the bar i thought they were brilliant. its wierd, ive been thinking about this recently because they didnt do anything different to the album but were just really good. i guess it depends on your mood at the time. great little band though
i thought it was a fantastic gig
and it helped that the place was going mental for them.
screaming lights were frighteningly good as well, i know you should never compare anyone to ian curtis but the lead singer had a similar stage presence.
