Thats exactly what I was thinking of when I wrote this thread. Just sounds like an overdone attempt to 'develop' the songs.
Dosent Bright Eyes
do this quite alot thats pretty cool.
i think
MMJ use it on "The Way That He Sings", it sounds awesome there.
The Triffids
Graham "Evil" Lee, was a great pedal steel player.
though i adore Bright Eyes
the use of pedal steel often makes me feel ill. i think that's all Mike Mogis' fault, though.
yeah
I don't really like it in most of Bright Eyes' stuff... but there is one key exception, I think it sounds amazing on old soul song.
assuming pedal steel is what i think it is :b
Glorious on the It's A Shame About Ray album.
Plus there's some on Father To A Sister of Thought isn't there? And that's double plus good.
^ this
especially Hannah & Gabi. I still think it works on some Hefner stuff though - the end of Lee Remick, for example, is almost unbearably lush.
I'm pretty sure Red Sparowes have shitloads....
...of pedal steel on their stuff. And they rule.
ooo
this too
not a fan
I think it makes some songs (bright eyes and weakerthans are guilty of this i think) sound a lot blander than they really are
Incorrect.
Steel Pedal guitar makes practically everything better. In fact, I'm off right now to mash in some pedal steel onto some Bangra.
^^ agreed....
It can only improve things.
Buffalo Tom used it pretty effectively I think
depends
if its done well. SFA use it pretty well - 'Run Christian Run' 'Sex War and Robots' amongst others. as did Hefner.
Idlewild's, and several others, attempt are a bit more ill fated...
i just want to add
"The pedal steel guitar: God's own instrument." - John Peel
it usually is i think
gimme specific examples
Hefner?

There's some really good pedal steel
at the end of 'Acid Food' by Mogwai.
