To cut a long story short I'm thinking of moving there, good idea?
I've been there a few times visiting mates at uni...seems pretty cool. Also, apparently it's the second biggest 'hub of media' in the UK outside of London, which is useful as that's what I'd like to get a job in.
Advice?

yeah
it's a nice place. see http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3305197 for details.
Cool, cheers
Although that's quite a student orientated thread...which unfortunately I'm not anymore...
Does anyone have any involvement with media in cardiff, espesh magazines?
Cardiff is amazing!!!
I used to live in a small town in Brynmawr in the deepest, darkest valleys of South Wales, squashed inbetween two mountains like a barlady's breasts, and so Cardiff was the mother land to me and my friends. It used to take us 2 1/2 hours to get to Cardiff on the bus but when we got there we'd go to Spillers and buy our record for the week, deressed as Manic Street Preacher glittery geeks.
Oh those days...:(
yeah i know....
i'm completely clueless about the whole media business thing, anything other than that you're wondering about? cause otherwise most of what i have to say is in that other thread i think.
I lived there for three years
as a student, and am not hugely fussed about the place. I guess if it's the second biggest "hub of media" that'd have a lot to do with S4C, which perhaps makes it seem slightly less exciting.
What are you looking for in a city?
S4C?
Sharlotte 4king Church
:D
no need to be mean.
Also
Western Mail and another newspaper? I'm only going by what wikipedia says. I'm working for a newspaper at the mo, so it could be pretty useful, I'm also looking into post-grad stuff at the atrium(?).
I guess I'm slightly concerned that there might not be much going on... and also it's kind of out of the way (I'm used to living in the midlands).
there is quite a lot going on
if you know where to look ;) it took me a few months to find my favourite places/happenings though. gigwise it's ok, though mostly smallish or local bands play. if there's someone you're really desperate to see that doesn't play cardiff though, most bands stop by bristol which is 30mins away by train.
I'm going there
to study Interactive and Motion Disign.
Design*
is that UWIC?
lol
Wales.
I don't really count Cardiff as Welsh
Most of Wales is shit.
go fuck yourself
fucking arswipe
It is . . .
<3
lol
your face.
Let's take it outside
I'm in the mood for a scrap
I reckon I can take the both of you
at once.
God, I'm so up for that
i could just pull your hair
and you'd be in tears.
That's cool
I like it rough.
come on then come on then I'll give you a bit of Welsh
right in yo F A C E!
cer i grafu
YEAH.
It's a friendly
relaxed collection of awesomeness - as long as you can stand all the students :oP
In terms of media; it may be second to london but there is a loooong drop between the two. There's a bunch of production companies but they're pretty small and tend to stick to their own 'niche' areas... having a grasp of welsh will score major brownie points (I know people that've taken night classes to get work with S4C & other welsh docs). There's quite a bit of freelance work around but you have to be prepared to search for it; there's also the BBC but they're moving everything around next year and wales could end up losing a bunch of departments.
To put it another way - my housemate did a film course with another friend & graduated in 2003, both getting firsts for their joint final project - one moved back to London and is now an assistant producer, the other stayed here and has been stuck as a production assistant for 18 months cos there are 50 other applicants for every position he tries for...
Don't wanna end on a negative though - if you can find what you need/want it's pretty much perfect :o)
Thanks
I won't be moving for atleast a year (if I do at all) so I have some time to think about it and make gentle inquiries about jobs.
Like I said I have been there a few times and it seems pretty cool. Also, good point about Bristol, that's a definite plus point.
