Who would you book...

..If you were me? If you had a TV studio, a long list of acts and lots of label folk telling you their guys/girls were the hottest thing since, well - ever.

Which acts do you want to see on C4's TMobile's Transmission? A mix of established and new, just breaking acts, just the familiar?

Thoughts, idea's and suggestions welcome...

  • Johnny Foreigner

im not a huge fan but im just predicting what people is gonna sayy mann

    • ^

      yeh

    • Trstn

so who are you a fan of?

(Johnny Foreigner - they're on tour with Ox.Eagle aren't they? I caught them a few weeks ago, wasn't a bad night if I remember rightly)

      • i cant say im massively on the pulse

when it comes to new music. i would love to see the National on there though......cant really think of anyone else.

        :(
        sorry

    • hm.

i'm not a fan either to be honest. same goes for mae shi but i remember not liking them years ago so nothing new.

i'd say book someone like um...kat flint.

  • Mumford & Sons

    They're really quite fantastic.

  • BBBlood

    Horse Vomit
    Bromancer

    please.

    • The Bad Robots

      http://www.myspace.com/thebadrobots

Camden's best new band! More people need to hear them, especially because the singer has got the best beard ever.
      Get them on tv!

      • Haven't they

        already had a go?

        • Balonz

I don't think we've had BadRobots, could have been another 'rival' show (yeah, becasue we all hate each other and have fights after scool).

Weren't they in The Mighty Boosh?

          • That was Robots in Disguise, who are bad (in a bad way)

            Easy mistake to make.

      • hahahahaha

or revenue, or the gingerbread men!

oh my weekends are so incomplete without it this year!

        • i saw

the singer from the gingerbread men at a tiny 80s matchbox gig in brighton a while back. he was what is known in the business as "one of those bellends who get too drunk and think crowdsurfing is cool, i'm well whacky me, look at my ginger hair" types

          • Catchy technical term!

            I know the type.

            • it'll catch on

i promise, or we could shorten it to "bellend" i'm easy either way :)

          • like the man from Big Cook Little Cook?

    • Battles

      Band Of Horses
      Born Ruffians
      The National
      Vampire Weekend
      School Of Language
      Bon Iver

You probably won't, cos that would mean it was a good music show. But whatever.

      • ^

        Yeppo

      • wecancreate

we're hearing a LOT about Vampire Weekend.

        • Well that would be good

but they are on radio and TV stations quite a lot compared to the others on that list.

          • School Of Language

always seems to be on 6music ><

        • Cool

          :)

      • That's more or less a Jools Holland line up

DiS latest news article reminded me how good Sportsday Megaphone is. Book him.

    • BBBlood

As much as I love the name Horse Vomit (do horses even vomit) - I don't think i'd get that lot past the Producer.

Shame, it's liven things up a bit.

Not sure how the studio audience would react - it could go either way - stunned silence and tumble weeds or it'd kick start a riot.

      • therefore you must do it

        do whatever it takes.

    • hahaha.

bromancer would DESTROY the studio with their aceness and loudness and plus steve needs to grow his hair back :)

  • Avaaanngraaaam

might be your cup of tea.

Or try Craine if they're still going.

    • Also

      Florence and the machine, JAG.

      • black_rooster

In the nicest possible way - Florence is mental...actually that could be a laugh. JAG? they've been playing the rounds of shoreditch for quite a while haven't they - are they signed yet? (just curious, not a nessecity)

        • Don't know if they are signed yet

(anyway if they aren't it it may mix add a bit of surprise to the show) but they are VERY popular on the DiS messageboards, almost every other thread mentions them.

  • heh,

    Another vote for CRAINE!

Or pehaps go with Big Black.

  • kong

they are the most entertaining thing that there is in the world

  • not that shit you had on last series

    :)

  • Tubelord

    innit

  • noah and the whale...or

    ...the voluntary butler scheme!

  • NapoleonIIIrd

    Gossamer Albatross
    Future Of The Left
    Lords

    • Fight Like Apes!

      ; )

      • yeh

        they are alright too

      • health

        battles

        and andrew wk

        • how about jamie lee curtis overdrive?

          they are ace :|

      • phil_insane

Fight Like Apes, they've got that shoegaze thing going on that seems to be re-emerging everywhere. Have you heard Hatcham Social? similar vain...

  • Joanna Newsom

    Andrew Bird
    Wolf Parade
    Sufjan Stevens
    Poo Midas

  • just don't get maroon bloody 5 again

they ruined the oxford one last year! foals were great (even if you didn't film jack's t-shirt!), queens of the stone age were great, even jamie t was ok, but maroon 5, bleuurgghh...

it was no surprise to see that most people there were to see them though!

ps - just come to truck and do a transmission special!

    • maroon 5

There always has to be some mainstream stuff and in their defence they’re good at what they do…

(i'll leave the rest of that sentance to be finished how you deem fit)

We've got something special lined up for you this year on the live side of things, should be a lorra fun - i'll let you guys know first - but I can't say anything just yet.

      • yeah, i know

but hopefully there'll be better mainstream stuff being released this year that you can feature!

you should also put on a decent local band every week from the region you're filming in, signed or unsigned. obviously you'll need to do more research but i thought it was a nice idea to go out on a limb and give small bands a helping hand.

      • a few 'well known' ones that spring to mind

        guillemots
        MGMT
        biffy
        crystal castles
        CSS

  • Portishead if you could get them

Nick Cave, Yeasayer, Twilight Sad, Breeders. And Wiley to play "Wearin' my Rolex".

    • jens lekman or lykke li

      keep it scandinavian!

    • William

      Popular Workshop
      Let Our Enemies Beware
      Bretton
      Black Bear
      Tom Waits

      • ^ plus one for

        Let Our Enemies Beware

        awesomeness

    • black_rooster

I bought the Portishead album last week, haven't had a chance to hear it yet & Yeasayer are fantastic, I caught them at the Night & Day in Manchester with Ipso Facto. Really really love them.

As for Wiley, I only heard the song becasue of teh Macca/Mucca youtube video with it..but could be a good live option.

      • You should listen to it as it's the probably the best thing this year

Although it would probably be an issue getting them to actually play as they aren't touring much.

  • will

you still have all those cardboard boxes too?

    • vacuouspop

That's TBD... why? are you a Papyrophobic?

(OK, so that's fear of paper, but I have no idea what fear of carboard is..)

  • you should just replay

that mark e smith interview over and over again accross the entire series

  • Could you book PixelH8 please?

I'd love to see him on TV.

Could you also have a Gunge Tank like on mid-90's Saturday kids' TV, and make the lowest scoring band on that week get gunged? Oh, and make sure the Kooks are on every week and repeatedly gunged. And replace the gunge with liquid excrement.

    Thanks!

    joe - www.anewbandaday.com

    • Gossamer Albatross

and Jonquil. Both deserve the exposure.

    • joespro

You have no idea how many times I have suggested that.

      • Never wouldve put Fight like apes

        down as shoegaze!! Sorry!

        • Phil_Insane

they seem to have themselves down as shoegaze, just been on their myspace - unless we're on about different acts?

Wouldn't be the first time..Once had an embarrasing Little Ones/Little 'Uns mishap - a f*ck of a long way to travel to see completly the wrong band.

          • whichever one you ended up seeing

            i'm really really sorry

  • Haha.

    Pissed Jeans
    Mob Rules

  • Would you consider

    getting Susie Dent to present?

    • Balonz

      Countdown Susie Dent.

      No.

      • The Wave Pictures

        Hayman, Watkins, Trout & Lee
        Sons of Noel and Adrian
        Frightened Rabbit

and if you could coax them into playing infront of cameras -

        Half Man Half Biscuit

      • Youthmovies

        Youthmovies
        Youthmovies
        Youthmovies
        and Youthmovies.

        Done.

      • Anyone but that Welsh guy though yeah?

        Please?

        • Agreed.

          His lexicography lets him down.

    • she shops

in my local sainsburys, so does pat butcher/evans.

      pointless fact #1 & 2

      • Please propose

        a formal introduction for myself.

  • JoFo

Campesinos! Blood Red Shoes, 4 or 5 Magicians

  • Munch Munch

    Hot Club de Paris
    Dartz
Frank Turner (just don't let him play 2nd album stuff)

  • Frightened Rabbit

    Johnny Foreigner
    Copy Haho
    Fleet Foxes
    Theo
    Portishead
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

    - That sort of shizz.

  • fairwell...

Rights - home time XX Teens show calling - BUT please discuss/debate more - I am writing all of these down and will have a listen to the stuff I/we haven't heard.

Just one thing, we have to balance the show - so out of established acts (1st/2nd album down the line) who floats your boat live?

    • The National

      The National!

    • TMobilesTransmission, I would suggest

      New acts:
      Magic Arm
      Broken Records
      Vampire Weekend
Frightened Rabbit (i know they've just released 2nd album)
      Bon Iver
      Lykke Li
      Wave Machines
      The Wave Pictures

      Established:
      The National
Sufjan Stevens (this would be massive coup and so you'd never get him)
      Jens Lekman
      Camera Obscura
      Wolf Parade
      Feist
      Mystery Jets
      The Shins
      Death Cab for Cutie

      That should keep you going.

  • Ace Bushy Striptease!

They're from Birmingham and they're amazing fun:

    http://www.myspace.com/acebushystriptease

  • I don't have any bands to suggest

but I really really want to back the gunge tank idea!

Oh, and Cats in Paris (www.myspace.com/catsinparis)

  • The Mae-Shi

    No Age
    HEALTH

but I think it might scare the C4 watchers a little bit... so maybe

    Johnny Foreigner
    Tubelord
    Cadence Weapon
    I Was A Cub Scout
Rolo Tomassi (that would be ace)

Anything but alot of the stuff you had on before that was boaring, I could never get thru a whole program without turning off.

  • A lot of these have been said before but...

    Johnny Foreigner,
    Los Campesinos,
    Bon Iver,
    Noah and the Whale,
    Frank Turner,
    Tubelord,
    The Anomalies,
    The Mae Shi,

    Devendra Banhart

    Los Campesinos!
    Wild Beasts
    Blood Red Shoes
    Regina Spektor
    Late Of The Pier
    Broken Records

    Yeah, that's the good stuff.

    • If I had to pick one of those though

      It'd be Dillinger Escape Plan.

As long as you got them doing something like Milk Lizard then they'd go down fine with the audience.

    • aint Aphex Twin be just doin stuff as AFX and The Tuss

      in the last few years...

  • Vessels

Vessels' debut album will be coming out in August and I predict big things for the band in the the coming year.

I think it's important for your programme to refect a reasonable amount of up and coming acts as well as the more established ones. I think Vessels would fit very nicely into the former category.

    Check it out at

    www.myspace.com/vesselsband

(By the way, I would have to concede that my suggestion is somehwat biased - though valid nonetheless!)

    • Gay Against You

would really get a crowd going. PLEASE put them on!!!

      Also:
      Johnny Foreigner
      Errors

      • Bombay Bicycle Club

I'm sure they've done something for C4 before but can't remember what.

        Also
        Los Campesinos
        I was a Cub Scout
        Zombie Zombie
        Lea Shores

        • Also

Death Cab For Cutie who will be touring in July and have recently released Narrow Stairs (and been mentioned By Seth on the OC, so the kids will love them by association)

          • Andrew Bird

            Zombie Zombie
            Jonny Foreigner
            Bearsuit

      Friendly Fires
      Metronomy
      Camera Obscura

      • Scrap all my other ones

        I second Of Montreal

  • The Clik Clik

They're more or less the band you're looking for by the sounds of it. Some people have made some really good suggestions, but I just cannot see Rolo Tomassi, The Mae Shi or erm, Baron Bum Blood playing on TMobile's Transmission show. As much as I'd love to see it, it's so unlikely to happen (unless they're trying to reach a new audience). The Clik Clik, however, are following in the footsteps of Alphabeat and making splendid pop songs, and are already causing a stir in the media. This sounds like a JAG but I can assure you it is not!

    • The Clik Clik ...

... are a colossal steaming pile of rancid weeping gash.

If you put them on I will never watch Channel 4 again. I will shout "FIVE!" if I ever play golf. I will work with only 9 digits, admit the existence of only three elements, and sing riotous choruses of "The Eleven Days of Xmas" each Yuletide.

Seriously, they suck the big one.

  • You should boook....

    Fleet Foxes
    Pop Levi
    Cadence Weapon
