Have they responded
to any enquiries on nicking other peoples tunes yet (Mother knows best being my favourite)?
Just wondering. They were supposed to have responded to this a while back, but I haven't heard anything.

There's a video comparing a chip tunes track (by Lo-Bat) and a track off their myspace, it goes beyond sampling really.
Especially as the original track was released under Creative Commons Non profit attribution (i think), pretty gash.
This + the t-shirt business and some other allegations of track theft has put me right off them.
-
That video is good. Hadn't realised how blatant the lift of Insecticon was.
They've re-attributed that as Crystal Castles vs Lo-Bat on MySpace. And it never got a commercial release. So that's cheap and nasty, but (legally borderline) ok.
'Mother knows best' did get a commercial release (vinyl and Itunes), and that's a direct lift from Tizzy by Lo-Bat. And then there's the drum samples. You can see why the 8-bit community is pissed off.
Kind of shows them up as liars too. Didn't they say they installed an Atari chip in a keyboard to get those sounds?
They never coughed up any of that t-shirt cash either. Scummmmbagz!!
-
I'm not sure i buy into all this.
It can't be that unlikely that when making completely fabricated tat like this that two people have the same stupid idea.
-
same idea? sure. identical execution? no.
Stop being silly.

Might go to the Bristol date.
-
-
probably my favourite band of the year
currently wearing one of their t-shirts and everythin'!
-
out of curiosity, read
-
I have that t-shirt
Knew nothing of the backstory behind that. Not going to stop wearing the t-shirt but it does seem CC have been dicks about it.

-
wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled AGAIN.
thieving scumcunts.
-
3volution
were they realy kicked off stage though? they just seemed to be there and then they were gone...
-
I didn't see the end of their set
as I had a 15 minute trek to the other stage to se Kate Nash.
-
-
I've heard they're terrible live
are they? As well as being terrible on record also I mean...
-
they seemed good at reading
i can't remember much. dioyy were surprisingly better
-
-
Over-hyped bag o'shite
In six months time, no-one will care
-
wrong
and wrong
-
Naive and naive
-
But people were hyping them
two years ago?
-
-
-
-
i think they've played bristol about 10 times in the space of 1 year...
they're great live, but.. overdoing it a bit?
-
They were supposed to play in Southampton
but upon arrival we were informed that the girl was ill and it would be a DJ set by that matey with the big nose. Great. She didn't look very bloody ill to me, flouncing about backstage with a can of Stella in her hand.
-
Good band
And a fun gig at Great Escape on the Friday night at Digital (heard they were gash on Saturday) but gotta have a limited shelf life.
-
I'm pretty bored of all but...
...a handful of their songs.
Amazing how quickly the more glitchy ones have dated... I mean, they're OLD anyway, but. Y'know.
I'll probably love it again in a week.
-
i enjoy
their album but agree with you diver. the 'glitchy' stuff is pretty grating in parts.
-
-
-
I'll be going
to the london date most prob. Yeah EVERONE knows they've "borrowed" a few things but they sound good..best chiptuners around I think.
-
i got a message from their tour manager
the day after the southampton cancellation saying they will promise to play southampton next time.
Where is it then??? Liars!-
he also said if ever you and your friends want free entry
"next time you want to see the band, anywhere, write me here".
I replied saying 'How about free entry to Reading festival?' tongue in cheek of course.
Ive still yet to get a reply. -
I aint sticking up for their tour manager
but maybe the promoters told them to Fuck Off for blowing out the last gig?
-
-
Utter-fucking-toss.
Maybe if your total exposure to chiptunes is... well, pretty much just Crystal Castles.
The fact they're "borrowing" heavily from a scene they aren't even part of is quite sad.
(^5 for your username though)
-
well
whilst i still love the crystal castles album (but can't condone their actions), there are definitely better chiptuners around:
anamanaguchi
sabrepulse
firebrand boy -
I'd say that honour
goes to Anamanaguchi. Because they're much better, and they make their own songs ;)
-
-
I can't wait for this
I love Crystal Castles, probably even more than (insert the names of other bands the haters love to hate). Probably the most inspiring act I've seen live, but I do wish they wouldn't keep rescheduling their dates. Mind you, how Alice survives these tours is amazing; she has some stamina.
-
Inspiring?
In what way? Have you only seen them and Razorlight live?
-
crystals
I think the whole sample theft thing is nonsense, of course they've used other peoples ideas to shape their music, in all cases on the album they've used samples and it's all properly credited - a load of their music is sample based and there's similarities to other songs, but I don't think a very early recording of theirs that had no commercial release that samples someone elses music uncredited makes them bad people or rubbishes what they're doing. so what? it wasn't released and therefore probably wasn't meant for people to hear it. the album is great, live they're amazing.
-
Inspired in the sense
that I listened to them solidly for several days after I saw them recently in Manchester.
As to Razorlight - LOL - yes I did see them about 3 years ago supporting the Manics.
As other live acts, well possibly I don't have your breadth off taste, but I have been to 35 live concerts/gigs this year, including two DiS events, I am a member of the Halle Concert Society, and in two hours time I am seeing the opening acts at Primavera, as I am in beautiful warm, sunny Barcelona.
