What is the most overrated song from a band you like??

well mien is The Rat by The Walkmen though some led Zepp songs are vastly overrated

  • pah!

    paper thin walls-modest mouse!

    • hmm possibly

      actually probably

Its good pop music but it aint much better then what they are being ragged on for producing at the mo. In fact i consider float on superior *controversial*

      • 'Waiting Room'

        by Fugazi.

My favourite band, not so amazing song. Yet it's the one most people sample when they're getting into Fugazi... :(

  • Pavement - Range Life

  • black sabbath - paranoid

it's not even the best song on that side of the record.

    hawkwind - silver machine
they released so much great weird innovative psychedelic space rock and all that gets remembered is this.

jeffrey lewis - williamsburg will oldham horror
not that i don't love the song, its fantastic but when i saw him play last year we were stuck next to three guys who wouldn't shut up about it and kept yelling for it when he was playing other songs and they made me resent it slightly.
    a bit like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FnSZk5XAgI&hl=en

    • yea gotta agree

      with the hawkwind

  • blue monday by new order

i dunno, i just dont like it that much. is it the "most important" new order track?

  • Any

    Metallica song released after 1988

    • Summer Babe

      or Cut Your Hair

      • You have

        made me feel unhappy.

      • Yes

Summer Babe is massively overrated. Not Cut Your Hair though.

    • I think you'll find its

Any Metallica song released after Cliff died

  • ...

Let me be the first to say it: CREEP.

    • Stone Temple Pilots eh

      ;)

    • by no means the worst TLC track

      • yeah

i would have said No Scrubs.

  • 'Karma Police'

    Fucking dirge.

    • come ON?!!

    • it's

      all about the ending though

    • This was my immediate response to the OP.

Perhaps familiarity has bred contempt, but it seems nowadays everything about 'Karma Police' is a chore up until they bring it around at the end. The weakest track on OK Computer? Tough to call, the only rivals are Electioneering and Fitter, Happier (which isn't even a song).

      • I agreed with all you said

until you said Electioneering. Cos you're wrong about that, plain wrong.

        • Nah

Electioneering's the reason that OK Computer's only 9/10.

Clumsy lyrics, doesn't fit the record, sounds like a Bends b-side. Actually, is significantly inferior to most Bends b-sides.

They should have put Polyethylene in there.

      • Wha!?

I find it hard to believe that anybody could not like any song off of OK Computer. Except Fitter Happier, but yeah that doesn't really count.

  • Supermassive Black Hole

    • good call ^

  • Windowlicker and Come to Daddy

good, but i can think of about at least 30 better Aphex Twin songs.

    • To be fair

they're the 'commercial' sound of Aphex Twin. I love them both, but I do like a good trawl through the darker corners of Drukqs when I need a real Aphex glitch-fix.

      • Ventolin ftw.

        .

      • i would say there are many better "commercial" Aphex Twin songs than those two

it's just the fact they had brilliant videos. If similar videos were done for Flim, Fingerbib or the stuff of the Analord EPs (im my opinion those EPs featured some of his best work) then these would have been people's favourites instead.

I do think both songs are great though, but Windowlicker in particular a bit unrepresentative of his stuff.

  • Modern Love

    Bowie. Terrible song.

    • ^^^

      So very wrong.

    • Yeah, it's rubbish

although I wouldn't say it's particularly highly rated though. Apart from by Alphabeat.

      • By wrong

I meant oceanRain's opinion, not the song.

        Modern Love is amazing.

    • snarf

  • Blur

    Girls and boys.
    Truly stupid song.

Why don't you like The Rat? its impossible to overrate that song.

    • well because

i have so many school freands that only like The Rat from the walkmen and cant see how good there other stuff is i think its a good song but there are much better (lost in boston, Rue the Day, Wake Up, All Hands & The Cook, we've Been Had and loads of othere songs are much better from them , also for people who only know of that walkmen track they start thinking the walkmen are a very diffrent band then they are.

      • i agree

the walkmen hav many songs that are better than the rat

i went to see them in the abc in glasgow, and two heavy metal fans sat impassively for most of the set, moshed about for the rat, and then disappeared almost right away after it

        craigx

  • Something / Come Together / Yesterday

God. THE. WORST. BEATLES SONGS. EVER.

And Led Zep yeah. Stairway to Heaven doesn't float my boat.

    • Sorry but 'something' is a gorgeous song

and you probably only hate yesterday 'cause you've heard it so much.
I agree with Come Together though and I'd personally add penny lane/ hard days night/ lady Madonna to that list.

      • those

are three of my fav beatles songs :(

    • Something really doesn't do it for me.

Don't mind the others, but likewise don't think they're knock-out brilliant by the Beatles' standards.

    • No to the first two but not so keen on Yesterday

The worst Beatles song (that gets played a lot) is Hey Jude. Awful and it lasts for ever.

      • I love it.

In my top 10 without a doubt.

    • Something is gash

But the other 2 are crackers, if slightly overplayed.

      • Don't say "Something" is gash...

It's an incredibly beautiful song. You'll make me cry in my pillow casting such aspersions about a great song like that *sniff*

  • Step On.

Loose Fit is the best thing they ever did.

    • massive Radiohead fan

but There There has never done much for me.

      • Really?!

Wow, for me it's the massive stand out track from Hail To The Thief, one of my all time favourite tracks, simply amazing.

        • ^What the Snails man said.

          • Call me narrow minded

but I don't see how anybody could say that There There isn't far and away the best track on HTTT!

        • Yep

When the riff kicks in after the drum intro, fucking brilliant. The best way to start a song.

      • I agree

Although I'm not a fan of Hail To The Thief in general.

        • Agreed

There There is a shiny gem in a relitavely dull album.

  • freak scene

  • losing my religion

  • Lover I Don't Have To Love - Bright Eyes

The Middle - Jimmy Eat World

Arguably the worst songs by both of those artists, yet probably the most widely known. Shame really.

  • Weirdly, I was having an impassioned conversation about this with

a friend tonight. I don't think anybody in their right mind could say that The Rat is overrated, because it is a fundamentally brilliant piece of music.

I do, however, think it has had the effect of taking away from the rest of their output. The Walkmen are not always as searing and impassioned as they are on The Rat, but they are a fucking brilliant band, especially the first two albums.

    • agreed

though i really like there third album as well. i mainly said it because in ways it has wrecked the public opinion on them.

      • I think it's a perfectly decent album, too

perhaps lacks the depth, and "it's a real grower"-ness of the first two. Some cracking songs though.

  • almost anything

    by the Smashing Pumpkins

    • ^^

Siamese dream is one of my favourite albums of all time, its flawless for me. Half of gish and mellon collie is great but just about everything else is average at best.

    • Tonight Tonight

deffinatly, as with Disarm... anything else?!??! nah some of its underrated if anything (they are more then just another grunge band scentric) Siamease Dreams is one of the best albums EVER

  • Overrated by society as a whole?

I would say Starlight by Muse but hardly any hardcore Muse fans like it.

  • Smells Like Teen Spirit

  • Island in the sun

weezer....its just a bit shite really

    • Paranoid Android

A Queen tribute by some nerds

      • haha!

        no!

      • "A Queen tribute by nerds"

you say it like thats a bad thing!

    • Island in the sun rules

  • Animal Collective - Bees

    • Bees rules

but I wouldn't call it highly rated

      • Every conversation I've ever had about Feels

someone has said Bees is one of the stand out tracks, but I find it meh-some. I'll give it another chance.

        • Really?

          weird

Off feels it's probably my least favourite but is pretty great in it's context, turn it up loud.

    • *Grass

  • I would say

    Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.

Possibly my least favourite Smiths song.

    • Rikki don't lose that number

by Steely Dan. That's their FM radio hit and the only thing anyone ever really knows by them. However they are such an excellent excellent band that it's a shame people write them off. The first 6 albums are gold I tells ya.

  • Hmmm,

i think when talking about liars, everyone places far too much emphasis on 'they threw us all in a trench...'

i'd say in comparison to the other three albums, that album is most definitely overrated.

also crimewave by HEALTH. there are soooo many better moments on that album...

    • They Threw Us..

..is quite good but nothing compared with Drum's Not Dead, those are the only 2 Liars albums I have.

    • hmm

i always thought that when it came to Liars the general concensus was that Drum's Not Dead was the best of the bunch...Didn't think They Threw Us was regarded by so many as the best album

  • love will tear us apart

    • Hip Priest

      by the Fall.

      • yeah i agree

but reply in the right place next time

  • Tubthumping.

  • Should I Stay Or Should I Go

    Clash

  • Atlas

Battles have recorded so many incredible and strange songs but it's their least developed and least interesting song that gets all the attention.

    • seconded

      tonto is way better

    • I have to disagree, Atlas is excellent.

Tonto, Ddiamondd and Rainbows are probably better though, it has to be said.

If anything Leyendecker is the arguably the least developed and least interesting track on Mirrored.

    • It has the most defined beat,

      it's easily danceable
      it's tilted towards pop dynamics
therefore it attracts larger audiences, those of which aren't interested in and can't comprehend the challenging nature of Mirrored itself.

  • not really the same thing

but i hate the fact that Corona by the Minutemen is nowhere near their best song, yet its the one everyone has heard and most people probably don't even know it's by the Minutemen.

  • Everybody Hurts - REM

    • not so much overrated as overplayed

I reckon it's still an absolute masterpiece.

      • It is

Until you hear Find The River from the same album. One of the prettiest things ever committed to tape.

        • hmm

I'm not much of a Find The River person myself. Pretty enough, I suppose, but doesn't really do much for me. I do like Automatic, but personally I reckon it's got nothing on a lot of their other work.

  • The Smiths - How Soon Is Now

just really dont like it. at all.

    • but that opening

waaaaaaaaaaa-waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa is pretty sublime and that opening lyric...

    • yes yes

  • Monkey Gone to Heaven

by the Pixies. It's not that I dislike it, it's just that it's... not quite as great as Bone Machine or Broken Face, but it's always the one that gets played by DJs because everyone kind-of likes it.

It's like the Cadbury's Dairy Milk of Pixies songs - everyone'll happily partake in it, but everyone secretly would like a Twix or a Creme Egg instead. Or something.

    Joe - www.anewbandaday.com

  • Not really 'rated' as such

but in terms of shifting units I Just Called to Say I Love You make me dry heave and wonder WHY OH WHY from the man who gave me (yeah ME personally) the joy of Songs in the Key Of Life.

Fight for Your Right to Party too.

    • To be fair

Everyone knows "I Just Called To Say I Love You" is utter gash.

  • Buckley's

take on Hallelujah. Sick of hearing it on eveyrthing anytime anyone dies.

    • ^true

      But it is brilliant.

      Just overexposed.

    • ^

      true
but you should stop watching shows like the oc

  • love will tear us apart

compare it to day of the lords , disorder , twenty four hours , transmission

joy division hav soo many songs that are better than lwtua

    craigx

  • Adam Green - Jessica

that song annoys the crap out of me.

  • Parklife

    very tired

  • Panic At The Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies

WHY IS THIS THEY'RE BIGGEST HIT!

They have at least 10 songs (literally) that are better than that rubbish.

    • rock n roll star

oasis. never been a big fan of that song or shakermaker for that matter

  • Knife by Grizzly Bear

the one everyone "loves" but it's definitely my least favorite on the album.

tracks like Easier, On a neck, Colorado do so so much more for me

  • Don't Look Back In Anger and The Masterplan

    Fucking hate those songs.

    • Planet of Sound

This was when the Pixies jumped the shark, i.m.h.o.

      • evenflow - pearl jam

        tis awful.

  • Roll with it

    a truly horrible song

  • "come pick me up"

    - ryan adams. SHUT UP.

also, I was never really that into "man on the moon". I mean, sure it's fun live and all, but surely a more imaginative set closer wouldn't be too difficult for a band like R.E.M?

  • Biffy Clyro - Folding Stars

    maybe?

  • Capella - U Got 2 Know

Obviously, U Got 2 Let The Music is much better.
