Bon Iver

Finally got round to getting the album today...it is quite simply stunning.

So far, album of the year. I know we're only in May but it's going to take some beating.

Listening to it got me thinking about a post last night about the guy Yoav. I went on a bit of a rant about how I thought it was gimmicky pish. But it just goes to show that no amount of technical expertise can equate to the soul that Bon Iver has.

I'm not saying Bon Iver has no technical expertise (because he clearly does - the production is amazing, for instance); just that there is a great big beating heart at the centre of this record that goes beyond the mere ability to play a tune.

Anyway, what an album.

Yeah

Its definitely got soul.

Thats what I love about it so much.

Also there's some really good hooks.

hooks...

definitely

Also, the crazy drum stuff at the end of The Wolves (Act I and II) is ruddy cool.

I love that bit

one of my fav songs on the album that along with Lump Sum

yeah

I couldn't hold out anymore.

Neither can you.

Buy buy buy.

Can just tell I'm gonna become obsessed with it.

Actually

speaking off Bon Iver,

There was a review of the album in the sunday telegraph magazine.

The reviewer gave it two stars and quoted it was boring. Anyone else see it?

^

Didn't see it but the reviewer is clearly a great big bawbag.

James Delingpole is usually spot on...

The review has put me off buying this.
He was basically just saying it's average guff that a few have decided to call a masterpiece for no discernible reason.

this post

has finally beaten me into submission
i've been hearing so much about it
i'll get it asap

It's getting so much praise

very much deserved its amazing

I'm

just waiting for someone to come on this thread and say 'they don't like it' >_<

yh same its really wierd

shirley it can't be too long till someone does. That someone will be an IDIOT

i listening to it being very sceptical about peoples views on it.

WOW.

Brilliant.

Nothing else needs to be said.

for those of you interested...

He uses this tuning -

GCEGCC

:)

That's not very interesting...

really?

his songs sound perfect&easy to work out in standard. well, except for lump sum

Well he definitely uses that on

Skinny Love

I really like it lots and lots

most of the time...

I have to be in the mood for it though. Thats the same for any artist I guess...

i sort of agreed with your rant earlier... but

looping can be sorta gimmicky but when done properly - as in not using a pedal to replace a band, it can have some pretty awesome results, i think for Yoav it's the genre he's entered- dance. and thats okish but it doesn't match up to an artist like Bon Iver that has the ability to mean something, no matter how abstract it is we all seem to get it.

i met Yoav once and he let us have his rider- he's a safe chap. Unfortunately his first single didn't floor me like Bon Iver has but i'll wait til i hear his album as i think he's good live.

Bon Iver for me is what cake and melted chocolate is like to a fat man, but healthier.

That last sentence

I'm stealing that ;)

Lets

just hope he doest sell the rights to a song for some sort of advert.

I can see it happening ><

:( Why did you do it Jose.

we all know it is gona be popular with mums dads and grans

in no time at all no use in fighting it let them hear it... its a good record spread the tunes.

alas...

Re: Stacks has already been used in the last episode of House.

It worked really well... but i wanted to hear more of it...

As long as it isn't using a song to make us see the delight in marks and spencers light snacks. or car insurance... or... another mobile "talk to your loved ones" phone advert.

...actually i see your point, but a mans gotta make a living.

it can be annoying

definatly but I think Im gettin good at tuning out advertys from my brain hehe

It's on eMusic

which is a great way to get it affordably.

sorry,

but honestly, i just don't get it.

flavour

of the monthhh

BUT

That doesn't mean it isn't good.

I don't know if that was your inference, but I suspect it was.

Everyone happens to have good taste this month.

oh no

hes good, i like him. its just in a matter of like three weeks hes exploded

Oh ok

Sorry for misreading you. I think it's good that he's getting recognition.

He exploded?!

Holy shit.

literalllllly

POOOOOOOOOFF

but no, it is lovely. i mean were never going to see him on a ringtone advert...but hell probably get interviewed by fearne cotton

I'm not feeling it yet

but it's growing

Great album and all

I like to call him Iver Boner.

Lmao

this ^^ should be quote of the week!

To think i only discoverd him about 3 weeks ago is scary

I have already seen him 3 times and have played the album at least once every night!

yes he's good, really really good.

but i'm suspicious of all this hyperbole to be honest.

anyway.. the album's fantastic, live they were tremendous, and he has a wonderful voice.
